Science? Mathematics already has. It is mathematically impossible for intelligent life not to exist somewhere in this vast, ever expanding universe. The question is not do they exist, it's have we been in contact with them.

Well, over 23 alien species have already discovered us, but they don't want to make contact with us, especially not after 9/11. They want nothing to do with us.

Why would they? All our weapons are pointed at each other. At this point we're no better than 2 monkeys throwing crap at each other... all in the name of personal gain.

Incorrect. It is mathematically improbable that some other life does not exist. Not impossible.

This argument also isn't worth much, because it only factors in what we know about the universe, making it a hilariously amateurish equation on the galactic scale.

I'm not sure you understand exactly how large just the known Universe is... and it's ever expanding. What I do find hilarious is this idea than we as humans think we're so special that we're the only intelligent life that could possibly exist. And the fact that that's our mainstream vision. The people that think otherwise are crazy within our society. It really is like believing the world is flat.

I do not understand exactly how large the known universe is. Which isn't much of a deal, because no one does.

I am however quite sure you don't understand how scientific method works.

Go argue with Stephen Hawking about it.

“To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational,” he said. “The real challenge is to work out what aliens might actually be like.”

Thinking about aliens likewise does not equate evidence of aliens.

How the hell can science prove that aliens exist? Aliens physically need to show up or we need to go out and meet them. That is the only way to prove that aliens exist.

Or we need to hear some signal that undeniably came from something not human.

As others have said in this thread already, the repercussions depend on the sort of contact we have. Hearing a signal from a planet on the opposite side of the galaxy would have a lot less impact on science, religion, technology, and politics than an alien spacecraft coming to Earth would.

I dunno. Pope John Paul II was giving blessings to breakdancers.

Francis I is a Jesuit whom I heard likes to take the bus with us commoners. That's some social justice warrior-ing, in the truest sense.

Resistance is futile.

The above line would also make for a great first contact package for any alien with a wicked sense of humor visiting Earth.

This claim has been debunked.
