I am ~8 hours into the game and I am level 5 I believe (maybe level 6, who knows). I have just gotten Iron Bull and Sera, but still not gotten Skyhold yet. I am a completionist so I want to do as much content in the Hinterlands that my level allows me to before I go onto the Fallow Mire, Storm Coast, Vivi's ball and so on.

 

However, would I be over-leveled by the time I get to these regions? Also, if I decide to put Hinterlands asside for now and explore other areas, would this mean that there would be content in Hinterlands that would be forever blocked because I ignored it and went to a new location, like Lothering in DAO?

 

I am enjoying this game and I can easily see myself putting 100+ hours into this playthrough. I just want to play at my pace/style which is to complete or nearly complete a certain zone before I move onto the next zone. If I am level 5 or level 6, I HATE leaving when I know that there is a bunch of level 4 content still available. And I fear that if I leave, I would be plot blocked from certain content ala Lothering.

 

So yeah, without much spoilers, can anyone help me with this? I do not mind being 2 levels over-leveled however.

I have gone exploring in many regions and pretty much all enemies are scaled to me, i.e level 10, even in Hinterlands. There are a few monsters that's level 12, like spiders and some rifts. Not sure if I understand the reason behind this. The only time I was over-leveled was in quest through the war table that had a recommended level requirement on 4-7.

I doubt you will be over leveled but the main story quests before you get Skyhold have recommended levels between 7-11, so you might want to take that into consideration.

 

From my experience I was able to still complete Hinterlands content even after getting Skyhold.

No, main areas will not be blocked the only area you can't return to is Haven after a certain point but that's more of an upgrade really anyway.

You can over level, it might even out later on, but at level 15 I'm over leveled for quite a bit of content.

 

Also, as you progress the story areas of the game can become repopulated with higher level enemies. Nothing actually scales to your level, it is just dependent on where you are in the story. So even though Hinterlands for me is now populated with level 11-12 enemies throughout, I'm still walking through them as a level 15.

Well, I'm also in the beginning, but I got a little tired of Hinterlands and went to Vivienne. I'm still able to go back to Hinterlands to continue the quests, but I don't know further in the game...

If you want to explore a bunch, and not level a bunch, I recommend not closing the rifts you come across (for now).  Also: use your mount to bypass re-killing the 1000000000 respawns that pop up.
