Is it because of the mp that it got such a HUGE nerf? Omg, the attribute system breaks not just the dw rogue but it also makes getting damage dealing on all the characters in general a pain. Picking a passive that looks great in theory but then seeing gives something crap like plus 3 constitution is very infuriating. The lack of crits in the rogue tree is astounding. It might as well be a very very weak warrior that has cloak.I mean wtf. Seriously, wtf.

I agree, I started out as a double dagger rogue but I didn't enjoy it, having to be in the middle of the fight to deal damage with the daggers caused me to take way more damage than any other party member and was having to use too many health potions too often.

Yea I switched to mage.  I normally play rogue types in other RPG's and especially MMO's and I hated playing one in this game.  It's just not very intuitive at all.

My dual wield rogue inquisitor deals tons of damage. But it's true that she's also often the first one to die, and I have to babysit her carefully. Criticals are also a little bit on the low side as you said.

Still, you can pull off some awesome damage, especially if you combo with frozen enemies etc.

I play DW rogue nightmare mode perfectly fine. I try play as Solas and Varric, didn't like this. Solas just doing the freaking dance, Varric even worse, no animation. How boring is that? All those fights, I dont need to do anything, just stand far away, and cast my spells and shots. boring as hell...

Wow... interesting. I love my rogue. I wasn't sure what class to choose, so i played something I don't normally play. I'm quite happy with my decision.

Cloak, scout the encounter, sleep a tank. Set up a backstab/shadowstrike while ordering my party to focus fire a third target. Sleep has such a low cooldown you can use it several times per encounter. Shadowstrike is a beast. Its a fun active playstyle. I admit I controlled my party members for a long while to get the feel of each class and didnt like my rogue at first. Now im controlling her 90% of the time. If youre used to WOW rogues its pretty easy.

the fact is that in Origins and DA2 the DW Rogue was too powerful. In this game he's just average

But hey..i was playing with a Knight Enchanter beacuse i didn't like what i read from dual dagger tree and from assassin specialization. But then i discovered the Tempest using Sera

The melee Tempes is a beast in my opinion. Fire flask is OP...no CD really?? i can spam the flank attack 3 times in a row without any cost and coolodwn

Then you can get damage resistance if you need and stop the time both for attack or for escape. and the focus based ability is just huge talking about damage

Assassin is not very good but i'll test the damage in stealth mode. what i don't like is that i can't move alone freely. companions always follow you even if you order them to mantain position. It's even worse than DA2 because in that game they move when you are too far but they keep distance. In this game, once you go too far, they will run to you.it's hard to go behind enemies if they can see your allies coming...

Go Tempest with dual wield. I tested by respeccing Sera and damn, it gets the job done. Flask of Fire offers massive bonus damage, more than Assassin ever will, and you can use the other two flasks for defensive purposes; Frost to mitigate, Lightning to evade attacks easily. Thousand Cuts is also great, it deals ludicrous damage and Cloak of Shadows isn't that good since most enemies that matter have Perceptive anyway.

there's a 2 point investment in subterfuge that gives -100% threat from flank attacks. get it and aggro is of little concern. fire flask with deathblow and twin fangs is pretty freaking stupid in how powerful it is. deathblow is an automatic 1k minimum at level 10.

I'm one-shotting so many things with my DW Assassin... The passive bonuses are so strong.

D&D Rogues have been overpowered throughout the Dragon Age series.

The difference is that Inquisition forces you to be a lot more careful regarding where and when you engage, not to mention knowing when to switch targets, whereas Nightmare difficulty in Origins and DA2 was turned into a joke by DWs because of how mindless it was.

I haven't yet tried Assassin (Tempest is my go-to), but looking over the tree, the passives are okay, but not the end-all-be-all.

+25% armor penetration, +2%-+20% damage based on enemy health, auto crit from stealth

If you're one-shotting things, it seems more likely that's due to the active abilities, not the passives.

Good to see more people complaining. I thought it was only me, since the first day the game was out.
My main issue with the DW Rogue however has to do with its striking capacity. I play on PC, and getting up close and moving inside a crowd of enemies manually is much harder than it used to be in the previous two games, where all you needed were a few clicks.
I didn't get to play it much to say whether the damage output is decent enough, though it seems to be lower than an Archer from what I read.
As of now, I am very happy with my Archer, but I await for some balancing on the DW.

I think people are focusing on the wrong issues at hand. Daggers Rogues don't have an extremely difficult time with regular enemies. Warriors do have it easier, because they tend to knock/stun/cc regular enemies with a variety of moves (shield bash, payback, might blow etc.) Mages have quite a bit of cc options as well. Rogues don't really get to that as much, but in party of 4, they will often be attacking enemies that knocked downed, frozen or stunned anyway. They can function quite well in a party and kill regular enemies as well, or faster, like the other two classes.

The problem lies when a rogue is target by a non cc'd enemy, he will simply get hit and you will feel it. There is no defense stat like in the past two games, which rogues could often excel at. We're now playing "action" rpg where getting hit means you get hit. Rogues have less hp due to no con passives and no guard. So when they get hit, you feel it more. The easy solution is don't let the get rogue get hit, manually avoid attacks or use barrier. The easier solution is be an archer.

The real problem is however cc immune enemies with terrible aoe melee hitboxes, bears, enforcers, darkspawn alphas, dragons, bosses etc.. You can't cc them, they will swing their weapons, they will hit melee characters and their hitboxes are so large they can even hit rogues that are stabbing them in the back or to the side of them somehow. And this is the situation where rogues really suck unless you have ridiculous gear and or lots of barriers to cast. And even if you do stand on the side to avoid all that, well then you are not doing anything but wondering why didn't you just make the rouge an archer.

I'm pretty sure that other then the dragons and bosses, the two handed enforcers and bears can be cc'd if u use it at the right time. It's only when they have guard up that they are immune to cc at least that is what I'm remembering not at my computer to check but I'm sure I've put the bears and darkspawn alpha to sleep with knockout bomb.

A part of me wishes that I had gone with Tempest instead of Assassin after playing with it a bit with Sera - the flasks are pretty cool and Thousand Cuts is amazing - but I'm learning to like Assassin a lot with the stealth bonuses and fully upgraded Hidden Blades. The biggest benefit for Assassin, though, is Mark of Death, which can become stupidly powerful against bosses:

- throw Mark of Death at the start of the boss battle

- have a warrior use Horn of Valor while Inquisitor and Sera go Stealth

- have Sera use Thousand Cuts while the Inquisitor uses Mark of the Rift

- have the Inquisitor activate the Mark of Death

- watch everything f***ing die in front of you

No lie, I've been using that strategy on a bunch of dragons to drop their health to less than 5% at the beginning of the battle, they don't last long after that.  :P

They appear to be immune to all CC aside from panic, which breaks on damage.
