I would say so far my success rate with public games is about 10% of actually completing level 5 with plant the flag.  (2 out of 20, 4 out of 40? that sounds about right.)  The game can be going smooth until the final round and then goodbye, thanks for coming.  Is there any particular strat to make this easier?  I would assume something like have everyone back near the start of the level at a choke point and one play plant flag and run back?

That's usually what we do but if you get demons, it's hell any way you do it, that boss is super op.

How about going circles? I think it works all right against Templar and Venatori.

Thats a good strategy, but can break down on red Templar and demon commanders.

Ive come pretty attached to one of the orlesian  chateau flag plant locations.  On the only flat version of the 5th stage, the bottom left corner location has become my favorite area.  Access to the area only from a long hallway, and a garden stone/masonry walkway, meaning enemies can only come one way or another.  Outside you have room to maneuver and kite if needed, and then you can sneak inside to create a chokepoint.  You just need 1 person to guard the rear of the hallway, where a few enemies will be coming from.

But lets be serious, pugs are gonna do what pugs do.  The only strategy you can do with them is either stick near them, or abandon them to die because they wont relocate from the position where they are getting rushed in 4 different directions.

That's the most commonly used strategy, yes, but remember that it works both ways. If the tank dies or for whatever reason breaks rank, the room will be flooded with melee enemies while ranged guys will be waiting for you at the door. Just make sure to pull back if you feel like you're starting to get overrun.

Depends on the party makeup, but for me there's always a few mainstays that work well. First and foremost, don't bother trying to hold a room. Every room barring the recovery font room has multiple exits, and typically you only have one person using the tank classes.

I find it much better to drop from room to room, dealing with ranged enemies as you go. They will always sit at the doorway and not move, which means you're free to drop them on your way into the next room. If there's no ranged close enough to safely deal with, kill some melee.

The tank should distract the boss and as many as he can handle. Without a tank, you get a lot less opportunity to post up and fight, but it's doable, especially with a good keeper.

So long as you prevent the ranged from picking you off, you should be fine

Unless everyone has mics or is listening to those with mics, don't even worry about beating zone 5.

Generally the best strategy is to hold the starting room. If the group is good, then you should be able to succeed anywhere in the arena, as long as you support eachother.

I have to admit, as cliche as it sounds, having a good Keeper helps against all bosses on all difficulties

When Zundar and I run a two man match, he will position his Legionnaire at the font door. I will go to plant the flag as a Keeper. As soon as the flag is down I use Fade Cloak, then Barrier then Fade Step/Sprint back to him. By the time I get back to the font door, my Barrier cool down is back up and he has built up some good Guard. Then we hold the area from there. Works pretty well so far.

Can be tough for sure.  Between the map, enemies, and team config/cooperation it can be relatively easy or "good luck with that".

Holding the entrance room is fairly effective (larger room provide a little more room to move).

- Had a good round yesterday playing Katari.  I stood just before the doorway with 2 mages and 1 archer behind me.  Whenever 2 or more enemies came towards the entrance I would Rampage (build up guard/knock down enemies) them then follow up with rear assault, and then rest back in the doorway.  For any easy adds I would sometimes simply stand there allowing the team to quickly take them down at a distance.

Sometimes the entrance room is a little small for this tactic, and the room can easily become inundated with enemy units.  I think for these, using an area with only two choke points is reasonable as damage can be done at distance, making finishing for warriors/assassins easier.

As always, a good mage with Barrier is helpful too.

I...honestly think holding the room is a massively overapplied strategy. Granted it's better against Venatori and God-tier with an elementalist, but barring specific comp-based strategies I find anti-archer rotations better against Templars and much better against Demons. You need a wide open area to deal with that boss and the ranged units there are ridiculously vulnerable.
