There is no description as to what they are for. Are they gifts? Or just loot to be sold? If just loot, then why do vendors sell them?

to sell them for even more valuable money.

So if they are just loot with no purpose, why can you buy them at vendors?

As far as I can tell, they are just a kind of "miscellaneous" category, similar to the old "junk" classification in DAO and DA2.

I have seen a thread elsewhere, though, which said the "Sell All" button will also clear out items you need for research/requisitions. Perhaps that's why the vendors also have "valuables" for sale?

That is a good question... I was saving all of mine thinking they might be used for gifts or quests or materials later on, but the weight started adding up in my inventory so eventually I hawked everything except for the research stuff I took to the Creature research lady. A small part of me is worried I'll regret that, but since there doesn't seem to be any kind of personal loot chest I can stash things in, that's the way it is going to have to be.

Along with the valuables, I have found a "too many breeches" bag with a red symbol on Sera's quest. Should I sell it or is it some gift sort of thing?

Some valuables are used as quest items (spider ichor, some dwarven items). As far as why there are vendors for them, no idea.

As to them being "useless loot," I would say that their purpose (instead of say, finding more gold) is to take up inventory space and force you to make intermittent returns to town, so as to break up the play cycle and keep the game interesting. You may not feel it as such, but it serves a role.

Be careful with the sell all command, it sells everything in your valuables tab.  Unfortunately that is where the research drops get put, so you either have to check if you have any before selling or hit the research chick and then sell.  Stupid, hopefully they will fix this.

This.

Valuables are there for you to make money, presumably because they didn't think it made sense to find a crapton of gold just lying around. But you do have to be careful about selling the yellow research items because those aren't junk (although you don't need them so you won't break anything if you do).

Sell all your stuff with the blue background. The yellow background stuff you should turn in for research.

Some will be reseachable for damage buffs, some can be used in crafting, and some are just cash raising devices.

Valuables are just glorified "junk" from what ive seen so far. The valuables that can be bought tho are normally things that you buy and you instantly get a codex entry, but they dont actually stay in your inventory.

Also, careful cause creature research items go into valuables category, you should dump those first at the research table and then sell the remaining ones.

I think the purpose of valuables is to take up all your "valuable" bag space.
