I must be the only person not enjoying this game

Now note I dont want to get rid of sidequest hubs or choices in the 5 locations. I'd just rather it was structured more similar to NWN2 or BG2 with linear progression but choices in those locations and with each place building on story information provided in the last rather than being completely independent.

That stated: when you compare all BW games they are pretty lineair. IMO opinion they always have not enough sidemissions (unlike the games from Bethesda) and the replayvalue is in playing the exact same storyline with a different character and abilities.
I personally would rather play a game for 300 hours (played Oblivion this long accorrding to my last save) to finally get to the epic conclusion than play an almost exact game three times for about 3 x 50 hours to see everything the game has to offer.

Even though you stated how much you loved all those previous games, I bet you're still going to get some flack from the fans here for calling bioware games too linear/repetitive.
Bioware believes that they have found the philosopher's stone, or the winning formula, and since it works, they won't be changing it anytime soon, despite the requests of a few jaded gamers who want novelty.

My guess is that it's just too expensive to do that with a 3-D engine these days as David Gaider hinted at with the $200 game.

This chart is quite wrong and fakes similarities and ignore differences.purplesunset wrote...
Bioware RPG Cliche Chart
A first point is how fake it is to pretend BG1 and BG2 as a same game. This table is only about BG1, BG2 should be another column and would not match as well the chosen clichés.
Totally wrong for Dragon Age, the cell should be red. Or does this guy doesn't know to count as high than the number of fingers of a hand? Mage Tower, Redcliffe, Orzammar, Brecilian Forest, Denerim. You discover you must travel to 4 locations to save the world
Can't be more wrong, this cell should be red too for Dragon Age. You have the choice of multiple origins and in some of them you are Noble. You hail from humble origin.
In Dragon Age you join Grey Warden BEFORE any attack, that's a cliche broken and the cell should be yellow.Undaunted by the attack you recover, are swiftly invited into an elite position that places you in a position of power of authority over the rest of the humanity.
Moreover, in BG1 column, the cell should be yellow too because you discover you are a half god, if that doesn't "place you in a position of power of authority over the rest of the humanity"... then nothing does.
Can't be a more fake cliche. Party games where you recruit companions instead of creating the party from scratch ALLWAYS start with some companions with some various prowess. Yes and what? It's awfully lying and perverse to pretend the games of the table fall in a cliche. The battle leaves you alone with 2 companions of magical and martial prowess.
Should be red too because some origins don't match at all the cliché.A devastating battle sends your quiet life spinning out of balance.
This cell you be totally red for Dragon Age. What is the quote for Dragon Age? The Darkspan... LOL cannot be more out of the cliché. The darkspawn is an invasion occuring as your mission progress and itsn't at all an organization with any infiltration in the world parts you explore. And the only parts where you face it, don't match at all the cliché, it's when you explored land already conquered. With your mission well under way, your every effort is thwarted by an evil or sinister organization.
Lol ok a good point but also so major differences are hidden between this apparent shared cliché:At some point you fall asleep and there is a dream sequence.
- In Dragon Age, it's not the shade part like quote the table but the dreams about the big evil, just a way to introduce it soon in the game.
- For the shade part of Dragon Age, it's one of the more complex area to explore in the game, no other Bioware games can compare to that.
- Still for the Shade part of Dragon Age Origin, it's an important element of the world and the other games of the table don't have at all this approach.
- In BG1, it's a link with your god origins, it setup a mystery mood and unveil gradually your amazing origins and open some divine abilities.
- For the BG1 part involving a little area to explore, it can't be compared to the shade area you explore in Dragon Age. In BG1 is just a small little area more for symbolism than offering an area with a full gameplay like in Dragon Age.
