It seems to me that loot should spawn where the enemy falls, not where I was standing when I killed it.

I noticed this happening to me as well, but honestly, whenever it does I'm just happy, because the current mechanics of looting **** on the ground are so annoying. When this happens it makes it more convenient :)

Hoping someone decides to add auto-loot. Either Dev's or some ingenious hacker that can figure it out without a mods interface.

I've seen that happen a few times too.  Obviously a bug but maybe a somewhat beneficial one.

I have found that looting is made much easier by using the 'F' key instead of trying to click on the object.  We already have to position ourselves next to the object, having to then click on it was such a pain until I found the 'F' key.

i've seen it happen a few times too, thought the mob simply didn't drop loot, but when i went back over the area i found a loot pile quite a way from where the mob dropped dead... could be related to why my party members warp back sometimes when i take control and move them myself

another thing that irks me is that the death animations are so long on some mobs that you don't know whether or not it's going to drop loot so you can't move away and have to stand there waiting for the animations to finish before the loot pile will appear on the ground and it takes way longer than it should.

Loot seems to spawn all over the place, including inside rocks. Seems to happen if i kill it with a knockback effect.

My concern is that when I'm farming animals for crafting materials, they don't always drop loot. But since they also don't drop loot in a predictable location, it's easy to miss.
