I've decided I want to play as a Rogue but I'm having trouble deciding between Assassin and Tempest specs.  Thematically Assassin would fit the character best, but Tempest seems more effective and possibly more fun for a Dagger Rogue.

My general plan is to be a dagger rogue most of the time, but respec to archery for things like Dragon fights and other situations where Dagger wouldn't make much sense.  Since you can't switch specializations which one do you all think would have the best synergy with both dagger and bow?

From my experience as Tempest it is an EXTREMELY powerful utility spec line. Use it with your other abilities, to negate cooldowns, freeze time and opponents. But from a fun perspective it lessens it for me. I like to be more dynamic in my play. But if you love potions/grenades and utility, go Tempest.

Good luck.

I've played as a tempest for a while, and I was sadly disappointed.

Yes, the utility is great. Yes, being able to stop time is cool, as is spamming abilities.

But the way the passives work together, you need to line things up very carefully - pop your flask of frost and blow your stamina (but not on your spam ability, and you want just enough to use FoF afterwards); when that runs out pop flask of fire and spam your best ability. But as a DD rogue, so many of your abilities can toss you out of flanking range, or knock down the enemy causing other hits to whiff, it's hard to get it just right in the FoF window. And messing up for even one or two seconds is a massive loss.

Perfectly executed, I think Tempest would give the best results, and if you have the patience and ability to make all that come together, I salute you. But I'm finding Assassin gives comparable results without the headaches of careful buff/stamina management, even with the loss of defensive utility Tempest provides.
