Sad part is were talking about homosexuality in a VIDEO GAME...this shows u were we are as a country..less than 2% of people are gay yet a major company thats selling its game to LOTS of kids under 18 felt the need to add gay sex...Dont give me that rated M crap...we all know theres TONS of people under 18 playing this game.
BioWare surely went for gender equality with this game.

Oh, I think we're misunderstanding each other. I was referring to sexuality. My bad if that wasn't what you were talking about.
Oh, I think I misunderstood you. I DEFINITELY don't support that idea because it would leave me with one or set options in most games and I don't think that's fair.

Why is gay sex any more dangerous to expose kids to than sex in general? By that argument, they should just do away with sex in the game altogether.
*Edit* Also, wildly OT so I will leave it at that.

Because what folk like you demand is sexist. Treating women and men like dolls who have to look pretty even if it goes against their personality is sexist. Saying that if a character doesn't fit standards way of beauty they shouldn't be, well, look-ist. Mostly sexist in our culture, though
You don't sound like you are. Otherwise you wouldn't treat poor Cass and Josi like that
Also, the only male companion I do find super attractive is Solas. Though I'm not fond of bald guys. But his posture and speech and voice and attitude... what can be "sexier"?
I am going to stop replying to you. You are clearly not willing to even listen to other point of views. Good luck.

Yeah, better not let the children see well written stories about gay characters. Think of the children! The CHILDREN!!!!
Also, your statistics on percentage of gay people is outdated. Of course, self-reporting data about a traditionally stigmatized and invisible construct might not be the most reliable. But if you are going to use it, you might want to update your facts.
But why are we talking about gay character? I thought this thread was about how oppressed the straight male gamer is because of Cassandra's jawline and Josephine's romantic nature......

It's not exactly the numbers people are complaining about, it's that neither of the het male romances are traditionally attractive. Cassandra is extremely masculine, Josie is average looking. Compare that to the classically beautiful Cullen and Blackwall, and you can see what people are saying.
(And again to the people point out the lack of S/S options or the fact that some of the female options are race gated, S/S options and the Dwarven and Qunari race are used much less.)

But try suggesting that in this politically correct social justice white knighting forum and you get flamed, dismissed, hated on, shamed, etc...
The hypocrisy is mind boggling frankly...
I don't think you know what any of those words mean! ![]()
I couldn't care less how many characters there are of what gender or sexuality, as long as they're well-written. That makes me simultaneously insensitive to social justice, and a social justice warrior (depending on which person is complaining at the time.)
It isn't hypocrisy, since my position never changes. It's more of a "damned if I do" "damned if I don't" situation.

I completely agree, but I don't think it's that big of a deal. Romances are nice but their not the most important part of the game, that and in any game not everyone will find any of the options attractive.
Also to the people pointing out that homosexual characters, and female elves/qunari also only get two options, how many people actually play as those characters? Homosexuals are a tiny fraction of the population, and dwarves and likely qunari are significantly less popular than elves and humans.
Hetero/Bisexual males make up the majority of the playerbase, with Hetero/Bi females making up a significantly large minority.
No, I mean it's not like anyone can do the romances because you can 'role-play' as someone of a different sexuality. And its not like the Equal Love Mod, which gave heterosexual male protagonists nothing, is one of the most popular mods on Origins, oh no.

She has short hair. I really think that this is a huge part of it. If Cass had Miranda's haircut, I suspect that the number of threads like this would reduce by a significant amount. Seriously.
Oh, come on. This is just a baseless assumption. If you believe that "short hair" equals "manly" I believe you are the one a bit behind with the times. My gf has very short hair and I find her "feminine" enough. I also feel very stupid replying to this argument as it's completely ridiculous.
Lastly I just want to ask those who keep bringing this up to stop and ask themselves a simple question. If it had been the heterosexual male protagonist who had been given extra romance options, would you be on here decrying it, or would you be defending it on the basis that, well, most gamers are probably straight men so it makes sense to cater for them? If it's the latter, then you really need to stop using words like "equality".
I ask myself that question everytime. And yes, my answer is the latter. And no, I won't stop using words like "equality" because that's what I would like to have.
The fact that most of the playerbase is straight male is not a news, and it's only natural and obvious to cater to the bigger playerbase. Of course, BioWare can allow itself to step out of these bounds since, well, DA:I is still Dragon Age and an awesome one at that, so it's not like sales are getting even remotely ruined of course.
Kudos to them, really - point is, I would not like the tendency to be inverted, that's all. You want equality, give equality. Straight females have more options (and more "stereotypical" ones, and thus statistically speaking more "broad-appealing") than what straight males have. This is not equality.
The fact that "Oh my god, but in the past it was the opposite so it's like, divine retribution" is not a reasonable argument. As said, we need equality, not revenge.
We all know that this kind of vengeful attitude is going to create more sexism towards women just because of simple reaction.

I was mostly just talking about where the complaining is coming from and why it's somewhat justified.
Also yes I know romances are tacked on after the characters have been conceptualized, but do people really think sex appeal doesn't play a part in it? If mass appeal doens't matter, would any of you want a darkspawn disciple romance?

You're going to get flamed to hell for this post, but I agree with you.
My romances were morrigan and Merril. The feminine rebel mage.
This time the rebel mage was male though so I lost that anyway.
Cassandra isn't very feminine, but I am really not into Josephine. Buuut I wanted my inquisitor to have someone so he picked Cass.
However it is pretty one sided to say Liara was fan service for males, and to say Sera is a failed attempt at fan service for males.
I do know Gay girls who picked Liara.
And I don't consider Her fanservice because tentacle hair.
The true darkness of my mind.

The point is that only really Cullen is traditionally handsome.
Iron Bull is, well, Iron Bull. He's got one eye, a squashed nose, no hair, and his body is not fit.
Solas is skinny and hairless. He's got weirdly small and far apart eyes. He's not traditionally handsome.
Blackwall is older, hirsute, and has sunken in cheeks that make his face look almost skeletal. He's also not traditionally handsome.
Of course, I actually find all of them except for Solas attractive but I can easily see how people could pick their looks apart. But it's not really happening. And, when it does, it happens in one thread. Not three active threads on this subforum alone.
Look, attractiveness is subjective. You don't like the looks/personalities of the gals this time around? Tough break. Maybe you'll get lucky next time around.

I won't. Bioware said long hair is too difficult and wastes resources and the only chaacter to have a ponytail was a man, and nobody has hair as long as his beard.

Seriously.
Liking (and i mean "liking") "alien" races is not exactly strange, lately. Especially for female gamers.

Because outside of short hair and a square jaw, there is absolutely NOTHING masculine about Cassandra's features. Her eyes? Her nose? Her mouth? All feminine. So if it's not her hair, then it's completely because of the shape of her jaw? Really? That's it?
