BioWare surely went for gender equality with this game.

Cassandra looks like a fashion model and Josephine looks like a Disney-princess. I fail to see your point.

Sad part is were talking about homosexuality in a VIDEO GAME...this shows u were we are as a country..less than 2% of people are gay yet a major company thats selling its game to LOTS of kids under 18 felt the need to add gay sex...Dont give me that rated M crap...we all know theres TONS of people under 18 playing this game.

Your "completely invented" statistic is hilarious.

The implication that exposure to homosexuality is harmful to children, however, is not funny. It's pretty horrifying.

It may infect them with a stereotypically keen sense of fashion, and a ridiculously healthy diet.

Gay sex is no more "inappropriate" for children to see than heterosexual sex is.

Oh, come on. This is just a baseless assumption. If you believe that "short hair" equals "manly" I believe you are the one a bit behind with the times. My gf has very short hair and I find her "feminine" enough. I also feel very stupid replying to this argument as it's completely ridiculous.

I dunno. As KaiserShep says, there's a lot of this chatter around. Doesn't mean it implies to you, of course; nobody ever said that you had a problem with Cassandra's hair. But I'm still a little fuzzy on what exactly's supposed to be wrong with her.

FWIW, TvTropes are apparently calling Cassie as a Lady of War, which works for me. And also Adorkable, of all things. Not integrated yet with the main trope pages, but here's the  character page.

Because outside of short hair and a square jaw, there is absolutely NOTHING masculine about Cassandra's features. Her eyes? Her nose? Her mouth? All feminine. So if it's not her hair, then it's completely because of the shape of her jaw? Really? That's it?

Why are you focusing on details? Slap long hair on Cass and she's not going to be suddenly feminine, she's going to be simply ridiculous for obvious reasons.

It's the whole character that has been designed from ground up to be basically Krem but with a clearer sexual identity.

Point is, there is none of those "female stereotypes" in DA:I. That's all.

Really? I think you might need to broaden your horizons pal, as both Cass and Josephine tap into quite common tropes.

Cassandra is the Warrior Maid

While Josie is essentially a variant on the sexy librarian

Just because they're not the blonde damsel stereotype it doesn't mean they aren't playing quite well-known parts.

I think this is kind of a case of the "grass is always greener over there" scenario.  If you go on some of the threads about the gay romances, there are complaints when the gay romance options are too stereotypical.  I want to applaud BioWare for trying to be inclusive, but I think everyone realizes that it's hard to get the balance just right to everyone's tastes.  I don't think every creation needs to have representation of all possible permutations of race, gender, and sexuality (if that were even possible), but what I think many gamers from dominant groups (gay, white, male, etc.) don't understand is just how wonderful it can be for someone not from the dominant group to see themselves represented, to not be made invisible.  To say, "I have two options and they have two options, but mine are ugly" is making a competition out of something that really isn't about competition.

Krem?

A very minor side character in the game which has utterly nothing to do with Cassandra, I don't know why someone suggested she is based off of him.

Krem?

Krem is a transgender character, a part of Iron Bull's mercenary group. He's standing next to him in front of Haven. Apparently, he's voiced by Jennifer Hale. I THOUGHT that voice sounded strangely familiar.

Interesting how your warrior maid is basically a real "maid" with an armor. Perfect curly hair and perfect white skin. Yeah. That's definitely Cass right there.

Also, Josephine. Yeah, "sexy" librarian. Ok.

The fact that "social justice" is even a topic in a game with demons and dragons shows how far down things have gone. I mean you have a world where literally anything and everything will come back and kill everything and anything else but who you can jump in to a sack with is a point of contention why? Hell I don't even know why romances are necessary to  overall gameplay seeing how little it actually effects the game (unless I missed a whole arc of something). The romances aren't a thing I care about so I simply don't care about it. I enjoy the lore, combat, RPG elements, story, atmosphere, and quip and banter of your party members while you're roaming the world. I enjoyed the romance cutscene of Bull and male inquisitor not because I was interested in blackbull but because frankly it is a very amusing cutscene. But this? This whole conversation about social justice this or equality that is deeply divisive and oftentimes toxic to the community and at a certain point all you're doing is throwing fallacious arguments and pointing out the flaws of the other side's arguments in to a ever more flamey cluster.

Maybe ya'll should acquaint yourself with a certain chart on a certain political website that points out the fallacies that are being committed page after page. Or don't and keep hurling poo at each other to no end or goal.

Wouldn't proportional representation make more sense?

Sure, you give me some census demographics for sexuality in Thedas and we'll talk.

No one suggested that Cassandra is based off Krem.  Please can't people read carefully before judging? -.-

I don't think anyone stated that romances are an incredibly important part of the game. But it's what we are talking about in this "not very important" thread, so there you  have it. Feel free to join more important discussion tho.

Because Krem is a woman who is living as a man and Cass is a woman who looks like a man living as a woman I understand why the poster was saying but I don't agree.

So its perfectly fine for Cullen, a templar who has been through, quite frankly a lot of shite, look like a male model with a 21st century trimmer to given himself that 5'o clock shadow ?

So it is perfectly fine for Blackwall, a tough, lone wolf warrior, to have a beard that looks like it was trimmed in a salon and waxed and a face that looks baby smooth ?

Since you apparently find these male LIs so very attractive, perhaps you'd be happier romancing them.

Hetero/Bisexual males make up the majority of the playerbase, with Hetero/Bi females making up a significantly large minority.

Proof?

According to PC Gamer, "women are the largest gaming demographic for PC role-playing games (54 percent)"

Speaking as a heterosexual male, Cass is the sexiest thing on two legs.

Of all the LIs offered in this game, I also find her the most appealing - by far.

I'd have to roll a male inquisitor to access her, though, so - maybe. Someday.

Yes, how silly of me to focus on such frivolous things like details. You claimed that her features were masculine and then compared her to a transgender man. I've asked which features because I disagree and you have not been able to give me anything. It's not hair, so what is it? Her eyes? Her nose? Her jaw? Which features are masculine? Because I'm not seeing it outside of her jawline and her haircut.

Oh, come on. This is just a baseless assumption. If you believe that "short hair" equals "manly" I believe you are the one a bit behind with the times.

I ask myself that question everytime. And yes, my answer is the latter. And no, I won't stop using words like "equality" because that's what I would like to have.

The fact that most of the playerbase is straight male is not a news, and it's only natural and obvious to cater to the bigger playerbase. Of course, BioWare can allow itself to step out of these bounds since, well, DA:I is still Dragon Age and an awesome one at that, so it's not like sales are getting even remotely ruined of course.

Kudos to them, really - point is, I would not like the tendency to be inverted, that's all. You want equality, give equality. Straight females have more options (and more "stereotypical" ones, and thus statistically speaking more "broad-appealing") than what straight males have. This is not equality.

The fact that "Oh my god, but in the past it was the opposite so it's like, divine retribution" is not a reasonable argument. As said, we need equality, not revenge.

We all know that this kind of vengeful attitude is going to create more sexism towards women just because of simple reaction.

You're misrepresenting the entire argument by saying 'straight females get 4 romances', they don't. As a male of any race  you can engage in two opposite sex romance subplots. As a female elf you can engage in 4 , as a female human you can engage 3 and as a female dwarf you can engage 2. If anything this is racial inequality, no? I'm going to be straight with you, OP. I don't believe you care about 'gender equality' in romances at all, (I'd personally like romances to be jettisoned out of this franchise unless it becomes a variable choice that affects the main plot) .What I do believe however, is that you're not satisfied with your romance options and you're using 'gender equality' as posturing, you're don't like Cassandra because of the reasons you stated and you don't see Josephine as a worthwhile romance because she isn't a party member.

The root of all this is that you didn't get to romance the type of woman you like, not gender equality. If Sera was available for you and more conventionally attractive I frankly don't believe this thread would exist at all. Where were your posts about gender equality back when ME had it skewed towards straight males? Why isn't your solution just to cut down the female romance options by two? Why aren't you complaining that gay males or lesbian females don't get as many options as straight females? Why don't you just admit that this is not about gender equality at all and it's all about how you didn't get the type of romance-able characters you wanted, because let's face it this is just simple ressentiment.
