I did Blackwall and he's really not for everyone. It's just so much drama, anyone looking to find a sweet and easy ride better look elsewhere. Lucky for me, I have a thing for complicated and tragic love stories.

I'm doing Solas now, bring on the heartbreak!

You really love punishing yourself don't you?! I had to go with Cullen just so I didn't end up with heartbreak. I actually was this close to going with Solas because it really fit my elf fem's character. But I decided Cullen was the safer choice.

still bringing up ex-es in bed is...well...frowned upon

Given that she only brings him up to tell you he's dead, I'll give her a pass.

I think that line is about how much she lost and her determination to not lose more to the big bad. He is also mentioned in a Cole/Cass banter by the way.

Cassandra's life is full of loss. Her parents, her brother, her mentor, many of her friends, and her first love. I can see how that's gotten old for her.

Solas's romance has got to be one of my favourites out of any Bioware game. Just that first scene alone is so well-done; the acting, the choreography, the music, the facial expressions, everything. Bioware has come such a long way.

Oh man those facial expressions - they're so subtle. With his backstory they could have easily made everything he did more exagerrated, and I'm glad they didn't. Is there the same attention to detail in the other romances?

No kidding. I would buy DLC now and wait a year for it if they would do it

Me too. Heck I just want confirmation that one day DLC will come.

Pretty much. I'm a repeat offender when it comes to Anders and Alistair with a mage Warden xD

I think you did a good choice! I have no idea how the romance path works out for him, but the friendship one ends on a good note.

Straight male characters have the option of scar face, an etheopian tribeswoman or a woman with no sex scene. Romance review = 0.

Boo Freaking Hoo

For years straight male gamers have gotten in all.  Also you have been conditioned to accept only one standard of beauty. Hopefully when you get older, you will grow out of that stereotype

At least she takes it all in stride. You can hurt her, but you can't break her.

Yeah, the facial expressions really make it. You can just see all the emotions at play. Really, I think Solas's face is one of the most mobile. That tea drinking scene had me giggling.

I romanced Cullen the first time through and really enjoyed the perks, like dancing in the court. I would have preferred a little more drama (he's one of the more linear romances IMO) but the romance was all over my fem mage's interactions with him.

Second run through I've rolled a male character and am trying to unfreeze Cassandra. Watched a few YT vids with her romance in it and am looking forward to seeing how it runs its course. I love strong female leads, and adore that she loves Varric's shmoopy romance serials while still being badass.  :D

Honestly, if I could romance Varric, I'd do it in a freaking heartbeat.

You're absolutely right, but i'm still going to complain a bit. I always want all the romance to be interesting and nuanced, but that should account for all the genders and orientations, a wrong doesn't fix another one. I have no reservations against playing gay playthroughs; I'm just right now doing one with Dorian and loving it to bits. My problem is purely that Josephines romance feels really lazy made. Just a last one made, because "hey" maybe we need another one for the straight males since we have so few. Josephine shows far more interesting personality in the Wicked Grace game scene than she does throughout the whole romance scene, showing off her antivan charm I was so much hoping to see after my romance with Zevran in DAO, but nope she's a boring good girl with a funny accent, playing the damsel to the letter.

Wheres the teasing tormentor like Morrigan or Isabella? The alluring seductress? The "bad" girl?"

I can't honestly talk about Cassandra, because I feel the same way about her as I does with Aveline: Great amounts of respect, but keep them at an arms length, because of their views. They're just too conservative for my taste.

So no love yet for Dorian?? He was my next playthrough's plan.

There's plenty of love on my end. I really like how they show emotion in the body language this time around. Dorian is like a kicked puppy if you choose certain options in his culimination scene - the embarassment and hurt are evident not in his voice, but how he picks up his clothes and leaves the room. It made me sad viewing the other variations of how it could go (via a save point), and I made sure in my recent save that he and I were still "inquisiting" each other often, lol.

Cullen romance with a human mage Inquisitor took me completely by surprise..

Is he even better with a mage? I was going to romance him with a mage later (my Elven mage is theoretically romancing Solas, but he kind of hates her choices and personality, so unsure), but my human rogue just couldn't stay away. Really enjoying the Cullen romance so far. It reminds me a lot of Alistair - similar "vibe" in many ways.

Well, the "bad girl" happens to be a lesbian this time (Sera), that's all.

I don't think there has to be a "bad girl" (or "bad boy") romance each time personally. It's hard enough to fit in one "rebel" type character in the Inquisition (I keep almost telling Sera to just LEAVE because she's hardly ever helpful). But neither are most of the characters (save Josephine, who seems the one pure soul among your crew, romanceable or not) simply "good" either.

I agree that over the years most video game companies cater to the male physique and if romance is involved. I very much like how Bioware is turning the tide to break the mold / sterotype.

In my game I have avoided completely the romance options, simply because ...... the options there (choices) are just awful. The characters every single one of them is absolutely world class  amazing. I do like Cassandra, Josephine, Viv including the dwarf scout harding. They just don't make me want to go exploring that part of the game.

To me Mass Effect in all 3 games had the best romance options (npc choice) to explore. Those days are gone I honestly believe if there were to ever be female characters added that appeal to the male physique that prefers a new "Leliana, Liara, Tali, Miranda ....... Bioware writers/creators probably would just shaft us with something unexpected like a tranny or make her dumb as bricks.

Thankfully there are other video game developers out there who still create games that appeal to the male physique when it comes to male/female, example is the coming Witcher 3.

DA:I to me is definitely world class awesome, has a few bugs but nothing terribad. I love this game, its replaced my Skyrim among other titles I was playing for a long while.

Sterotype me all you want, but the romance options in DA:I are not appealing at all and certainly don't add anything to the game. I just avoid it, its better that way besides its only a video game and my character avatar loves to slay dem dragons! Loot..Loot....Loot   :)

I think the term you're looking for is "male psyche" not "male physique". Anyway, if you like a certain type of woman that's fine, but I don't think you can call the romances objectively awful. I didn't like most of the ME options for FemShep, but that's just my taste, not because they were poorly written or "didn't appeal to women" (obviously lots of people like Garrus so...to each their own).

I don't see why there's so much crying over straight male romance option. I guess some people only care bout look / sex scene and ignore their personality / story completely (If that's what you want, there's something call porn for you, DA:I is not it).

I adore Josephine. She's like a cute nerd, smart, funny, and caring, kinda remind me a bit of Tali from ME. Cassandra is a strong, capable, and passionate person. And discovering her another side, inside that "tough woman" shell is pretty amusing. Tried both of them, loved both of them. So as far as straight male go, I have no complain :))

Can't say about straight female and same gender romance tho, I haven't had time to try them yet. Tho since I like all characters, I think I will enjoy those as well.

Nope. It was only their personality/story I didn't like. Josephine is so utterly boring, and Cassandra is just so so religious it's.... eeew

You could give me an overweight dwarf, so long as she was icy and sarcastic as Isabela and Morrigan. Or a female Qunari, that would've been interesting.

It all ends on all the girls getting "saved" by me, instead of an actual partnership as it ends with Morrigan and Isabela. There's no option for the more "independent" relationship.

im also disappointed theres no pure T&A option, btw.  though even i thought isabella was...well, a BIT freakish.

I didn't find Cassandra any more religious than someone who has faith in something greater than themselves, and is having trouble reconciling why this power allows bad things to happen to good people. She never beat me over the head with it, and simply, this facet of her personality was hardly "eww" material. If you're comfortable in your faith in "whatever" then I fail to see how a pixelated character can make you uneasy.

Because by chosing to romance a certain character, you deliberately chose to spend more time with that character. It's an action you take to get to know the character just a bit more than the rest of the companions. Why on earth should I chose to spend game time on a character I see no appeal to, other than she's a good looking pixelated character. She didn't make me uneasy, she's just annoying and her idealism borders on stupidity imho. She's not preachy about her religion, but she certainly is when it comes to her idealism.

Enjoyed Cassandra - I liked the fact that early on choosing romance options actually got disapproval from her.

@zambixi

yeah thanks for that, typing from my iphone sucks. and no option for me to edit my post  ( psyche not physique ) however bioware prob would prefer the ....male physique more. Hence the romance options/choices they delivered in DA:I.  Its all good tho, some dudes like that sort of thing.

Garrus is awesome  but I never created a Femshep nor wanted to.  But I will say that I do prefer Femshep as cannon over Maleshep, even tho in every single playthru I have in Mass Effect from 1,2 & 3 have been Maleshep. Romance options explored were  Ashe, Liara, Tali, Miranda.

**so excited ... unique/helm of the inquisitor just dropped for me off a dragon! The helm doesn't look horrid like the pictures or vids. It looks badda*z! I'm so enjoying this game the devs poured their best into creating this new world and all the new characters down to the smallest details. I really love this game it has soo much content and stuff to do.

This is the best game I have ever played but as far as romances go I was pretty disappointed. (I play male inqusitor)

Iron Bull -  The romance revolves around the Inquisitor being Bull's bottom b**ch in the bedroom (Yep I said it). It was hilarious at times but overall it was unbelievably lame and creepy. Perhaps it works differently  for female Inquisitor?

Cassandra - The romance in intself was interesting, the self self righteousness of the character however was truly disgusting.

Dorian - The  embodiment of several RL gay clichés and stereotypes, it's a shame, this character had potential.

Josephine - ....meh

Now Blackwall, that would have been my first choice, I'll have to give it a try if I have time to roll a female pc.

All in all. I think females got the most out of the  romances this time around.
