I really liked the cassandra romance for a while. Now im after the wardens thing and trying to do a ton of sidequests and she never has anything new to say. I know how every li in bioware games eventually runs out of things to say and im not doing anything big story wise but right now the relationship is boring. Im sure it will change soon though. If not then boo! Even extremely interesting morrigan ran out of things to say theres just so much dialog theyll write i get that

Companions usually get more dialogue after main plot events (rarely at certain approval levels).

So far I've only completed the Cassandra Romance. I liked it. I heard the Josephine romance plays out like a Disney romance, so I can't wait to get to it.

Solas's romance was so much more than I ever expected going in. My favorite bioware romance, rivaling even Garrus.

I won't say it is for everyone- in fact, if your the sort of person who only wants the fluff romances, I would suggest waiting to try it in a second playthrough. But it is worth it for anyone who likes plot.

I quite like the Cassandra romance. It plays the "stone-cold warrior type is really human inside" trope to a T, but it's done well. Her fangirling over Varric's book (and Varric's own admission that that particular novel series was terrible) was perfect.

I have a warrior romancing Cullen and a rogue romancing Blackwall. Is Cullen better with a mage Inquisitor? So far I like his romance quite a bit. Pretty straight forward. I'm not finished though. Blackwall's on the other hand is conflicting. :C

My thoughts on Dorian; spoilers obviously.

I've been going through his romance and finding it uncomfortable, frankly. I don't like the choice to make sexuality in Thedas the equivalent of modern Western sexuality; DAII did it better with the ambiguous, flexible sexuality, which left expansive room for my own interpretation of human relationships and sexuality as I progressed through the game. In any case, the amount of research demonstrating the social, cultural and historical contingency of human sexuality is so mountainous that I'll simply mention it here in passing by way of explanation for my outlook on this.

One of the main things that bugs me about Dorian's romance is how it feels too political and too...impersonal. It feels like every scene has to make a statement, every act challenge a taboo I never believed existed when, e.g. a male Hawke took Fenris as his partner and everyone reacted with the same mild gossip but overall disinterest with which they would have treated a heterosexual pairing. His personal mission gives an explanation for this but it feels--well, thinly veiled would be an understatement.

The fusion of a male-male relationship with the Tevinter thing is nettlesome. The kiss after the personal mission hit the wrong note for me and seemed strange--I didn't feel particularly connected to him there, the animations were too exaggerated, and his line was typically over the top. The scene with Mother Giselle was one of the better ones, but just gave the relationship further negative reinforcement. And then the scene in the Inquisitor's quarters was very uncomfortable for me; it had a predator-prey vibe that simply left me cold and weirded out. The interaction at the end of the ball was the best of the lot in my opinion; he seemed the most concerned and accessible to me he'd ever been, and we were able to talk to each other and enjoy each other's company without the evils of Tevinter homosexuality constantly getting shoved in my character's face by NPCs or Dorian himself.

To pick up that thread, while I know he's supposed to be flashy, flamboyant and above all irreverent, it can be a bit unrelenting, to the extent that he starts to feel too much like an archetype or a stereotype. When I talk to him I feel like I'm getting a show and a front most of the time, which is fine for a comrade or friend but feels strange when you've been intimate or are considering a commitment. I often wonder who he really is and what his past is like, but he's too busy making witty repartee to let me see that. I feel more connected to Sera after squatting on a rooftop for a few minutes than I do to Dorian after a long conversation or even after sex. Which brings me back to the impersonal thing.

I romanced Dorian and it was nice. Though I did not like the ending all that much.. not enough closure. He kinda says he will stay with you, but also says he might still leave for Tevinter "one day"..

Or do you guys think they leave it kind of open ended because they might want to branch out the story in the future?

God I hope so. The Solas romance (while amazing) has such a lack of closure that I'm kind of baffled. I mean, there's a reason, but that doesn't make the wait to find out what the heck is going on any less painful.

But I think Inquisition in general has a distinct lack of closure. There's a ton of lovely buildup which doesn't seem to match the payoff. I hope there's some substantial DLC in the works or something.

Yea, I suppose Dorian's not being very direct in his love isn't as bad as having your romantic interest running off without a word and having a secret rendez-vous with an older woman.

Pfffft. And yet Solas's romance is probably the best I've ever seen in a Bioware game (tied with Garrus's for my favourite). It just...needs an ending.

This is the best game I have ever played but as far as romances go I was pretty disappointed. (I play male inqusitor)

Iron Bull -  The romance revolves around the Inquisitor being Bull's bottom b**ch in the bedroom (Yep I said it). It was hilarious at times but overall it was unbelievably lame and creepy. Perhaps it works differently  for female Inquisitor?

Cassandra - The romance in intself was interesting, the self self righteousness of the character however was truly disgusting.

Dorian - The  embodiment of several RL gay clichés and stereotypes, it's a shame, this character had potential.

Josephine - ....meh

Now Blackwall, that would have been my first choice, I'll have to give it a try if I have time to roll a female pc.

All in all. I think females got the most out of the  romances this time around.

Dorian was WAY over the top. I did enjoy the thing (don't want to spoil the story for anyone) with his father - cause in RL that happens. A lot. But I can tell you now, only TV gay men know how to throw a pillow and have it land in the perfect spot. I sure don't. That was disappointing

Viv is another one.. I mean, who did BW model her after - some drag queen? All this "Darling" crap - I was like "Give it a rest honey - you aren't on stage now".

Garrus! I rarely play female chars in games.. but ME2 and 3 i did just to experience Garrus. That by far, is BW beat romance work. Really. And ithe Citadel DLC - well if you haven't played Citadel play it.. but first romance Garrus.

This game, I've tried Cass and Dorian. Dorian I like better then Cass - though I like Cass better as a character.

But looks like I'll have to play a female elf now just to experience Solas. I did like him as a character. Reminded me a lot Wynn's character in DAO. And of course, the ending (the final end) make it even more meaningful.

When Solas leaves, in the romance, does he at least say a tearful goodbye? His goodbye of my hero this game was touching. I'm just curious.

Garrus is my Bioware One True Love. I've adored him since ME1 and I was on the forums advocating for him to be an LI before ME2 came out.

And while I've certainly enjoyed other Bioware romances (Zevran in particular) they never really clicked the way that Garrus did. ...Until Solas. *sigh* I just had to fall for the plot-important one.

I romanced Blackwall and it was such a great ride. Plenty of hints that made you suspect that something was definitely up but the big reveal was still surprising. I also liked that you could choose to abuse your power if ya want. >=D

I'm still not really sure why Cullen is race-gated. Solas made sense and Vivienne not being romanceable made sense. But given the dynamics I had with Cullen, it was almost as if there was potential there which is confusing. I guess that's what happens if you design the game to be Humans only first. xP

I actually like that his romance is race gated. He is rather conservative and proper, so I can see him being the type who won't go for a Qunari or a Dwarf tbh.

Just finished Iron Bull's and found it underwhelming. There was just this disharmony between the scenes--like at first we're friends, then we're sex buddies, and then with no prior warning we're in a serious relationship. It's jarring. He's got some of the best friend scenes though.

I watched my sister play through Cullen's and thought it was awesome. They supported and encouraged each other, had this really cute dorky flirting, and even had a special discussion about her being a mage. And they continued to have actual conversations about their relationship after hooking up! It felt a lot more natural than IB.

Currently I'm playing Josephine's romance. It is very Disney, but I think it's cute. It's kind of nice to have a romance where I'm not being betrayed or assaulted with "woe is me"s or dealing with mental issues or getting dumped out of the blue or anything. She has problems, but she handles them herself and just focuses on helping me save the world during the day and cuddling with me at night.

I saw Solas's, though, and man that hit me in the feels.

My dwarf tank is actually 'romancing' Harding. It's really cute. Closet thing to dwarf romance that exists, too.

I'm trying for Sera but im having trouble getting her approval (Dalish female elf) so i flirt with Cullen sometimes and hes responses are natural, if you flirt with him right after the events of Haven, its pretty cool how they go about it

Is he even better with a mage? I was going to romance him with a mage later (my Elven mage is theoretically romancing Solas, but he kind of hates her choices and personality, so unsure), but my human rogue just couldn't stay away. Really enjoying the Cullen romance so far. It reminds me a lot of Alistair - similar "vibe" in many ways.

Well personally I think romancing him with a mage character (particularly a Trevelyan, since she's a former Circle mage) really adds to his character development.

Spoiler

I don't know how much of that happends in the non-mage romance (or how much of that happends if you side with the Templars and romance him) but for me, it felt very well crafted and really added to his character development and the romance.

That was actually the point where I went: "... I'm going to have to romance him now, aren't I?"

And it just gets better from there!

Thats funny, because im thinking a similar thing, I wanted to have an elf and elf romance because of how im setting up my world state to be pro mage and pro elf, but.. convincing Cullen to accept a mage ;) could work.. if Sera fails, Cullen is the way to go.

I think Cullen is race-gated for programming reasons honestly (added in later; the cut scenes height differential) but it seems totally possible that it also just fits with his character. I'm rather surprised he's even into elves (especially since you're Dalish) as he seems very traditional and I haven't seen many human/elf marriages. And he totally seems like he wants to make a full commitment to you - at least from the whole Trevalyan Noble POV.

Yeah, now I have to romance Cullen with a mage, too. There are some differences to be sure - it's still an awesome romance as a rogue.

For female romance option I say Solas is the best

it foreshadow what will happen later in the game while showing he does care about the female elf Inq...

For Male romance option i can't say because none seem well developed enough.

Romancing Cullen first was awesome, but now I feel like the others might not live up to it. xDD

Though Solas is probably a close second from what I hear. lol

I intend to romance everyone eventually.
