I'll drink from it this time so Morrigan doesn't get screwed over.

I let Morrigan drink. It's too funny to see her face after when she understands she's been trapped. :D

You can destroy it and then nobody is bound.

Are you sure? The option to allow it to be destroyed is there, but...

If you drink from it, how does the dragon vs dragon scene go? When Morrigab drinks she turns into a dragon so...?

Nope didn't drink it.

And watching it backfire on Morrigan was splendid.

For my first play through, I had Morrigan drink it. I was a human, and didn't want the repercussions of drinking from the well to hinder my job as the Inquisitor. That, plus I adore Morrigan. As worried as I was/am for her because she drank from it, she seemed to really want to be the one to do it...so.

I'm replaying the game at the moment, as a Dalish elf, and I fully intend to have her drink from the well herself. Being bound to one of her gods doesn't sound like the worst fate for her, and she's having a bit of an elven crisis after learning through her beau Solas that nothing she knew about her history is true. The well seems like a way for her to start to unlock the truth.

If you drink from the well yourself;

If Morrigan drinks it,she is not only a slave to mythal, but she has knowledge that is not at your disposal and the ability to turn into a dragon.

I'm surprised. I thought more people would find the thought of nearly unlimited knowledge to be exciting. I would drank from it myself. I would too romanced with Morrgian to say no. Thankfully, Solas wasn't in my party. He didn't really know about it. It's still is appealing..knowledge that is forbidden.

Did you forget the part about being bound to Mythal's will? Morrigan also says the well feels hungry. I'm usually after knowledge like nothing else, but here? Nah, not going to lose my freedom for that ancient wisdom. Morrigan's lucky that...er...Mythal isn't interested in enslaving her. Maybe she also isn't interested in enslaving me - I haven't seen that version - but at the time it appears as if the Well's knowledge wasn't worth the price for anyone who isn't already a priest of Mythal.

Nope, but I ate cheese that tasted of Despair.

hehe.

But on topic, I did at first, then when I watched the results unfold, I re-loaded so I could just watch Morrigan's reaction.

That moment was worth every second I lost because of reloading.

Is it possible for no one to drink it? I would prefer to not have anyone bound to flemeth.

I didn't. I didn't like the idea of being enslaved to the will of some unknown being.

This quest reminded me so much of the Thieves Guild final quest in Skyrim. Hey you want to be the top dog, guess what you'll be attached forever to an unknown deity forever. Yeahhhh no.

Well I've seen other posts regarding this issue so maybe they've just passed this topic :b

Regarding the main question...
Dunno.

I think If you're an elf, there's no matter in drinking it.
You are an elf, and serving your ancestors and the god of old would bee something honorable.

But I played a human. and up to that point of the game, I considered myself as 'the Herald of Andraste'.
Even thought the mark was given as an accident, I thought it was through the 'mysterious act of god'. Ya know? (argh it's getting religious :(  )

So drinking from the well, forever bound to an ancient demi-god, was not an option.
( and Solas states this : " he does not think they were gods, but he doesn't oppose they existed)

-------------------------

In a side note, I love family drama,
and seeing the irony in morrigan's arrogance and her struggle to be free from her mother actually lead her being a slave of flemmeth
forever...  was cruel... but also interesting.

I played an Adrasian Human my first run, which is actually my second run, but my nightmare run was kicking my ass, so I did a Normal run to figure out where all the quests were and such, and let Morrigan drink. The dialog with Flemmeth was hilarious, as was my closing line: Forced to obey your mother, ouch.

I drank from the well.  I didn't quite trust Morrigan and I figured I could handle anyone trying to control me (after all, I am the hero of the story).  It was not a major decision for the story line so that was a bit of a disappointment.

Guarded by a secret army of immortal elves. Called 'The Well Of Sorrows'. Morrigan wants to drink from it. There's a 'Price to be paid' if you do.

I'm not touching that thing with a stick.

I did not.  I was playing a goody-two-shoes qunari 'knight in shining armor' type of character and there were just too many undefined variables coming with that deal for him to risk it.  He allowed Morrigan to do it.  I'm playing a dwarf rogue now.  He'll have way less qualms about taking that gamble.

Which is good because

Nah, gave it to Morrigan. I mean, she was practically begging for it.

And it turns out that Morrigan being bound to Flemeth/Mythal seems like a non-factor, as Flemeth just left her and Kieran alone (after absorbing the Old God Soul from Kieran). Though the post-credit scene may put a damper on this theory.

Well this is one of the few spoilers I regret reading. Being bound to Mythal sounded unlikely, but not impossible, but of course I knew it to be true. Then again, all of my companions at the well gave decent advice against me doing it -- all offering different reason. Whether or not I would have drank it without having been spoiled? I will never know.

Truth be told I cannot imagine the boon was awfully compelling for the Inquisitor. Extensive elven knowledge may be appealing to some, but not this human mage. Now, my canon Warden from Origins (Dalish) OTOH would have been all over that.

So is there any reason to not drink it?

You get elven knowledge, and become indentured to a god who isn't really interested in using you.

Do you get a dragon mount or a dragon that comes to your aid in future battles?

What is the benefit in drinking it yourself?

well, considering bioware will have a new protagonist for every dragon age game, i have no qualms letting my inquisitor drink.... hes just gonna disappear like the warden and hawke did.... although the really didnt disappear, bioware just used that line to buy them some time to figure out wtf they wanted to do with them.

I was a little bit indecisive on the whole issue at the start. Morrigan was way too eager to get her hands on it (and we all know how devious that family line is ;) ) but at the same time I was quite wary of what these 'repercussions' entailed. So I was like "Do I entrust this power and knowledge to Morrigan? Who I don't trust as far as I could throw her, or do I take the risk and drink it myself?" In the end I decided it was in Morrigan's best interest to help against Cory at the time and I would have to deal with any repercussions that resulted after he was defeated. Then when I saw who she was bound to and I found the irony of it absolutely hilarious.

I ran through a second time from my save and drank it myself and found it nowhere near as meaningful or entertaining. I mean you have an additional dragon battle and then you are only allowed to summon it on your behalf once. Its essentially useless. I would much rather Morrigan shapeshift, I think it has a lot more potential to benefit me in the future. Plus I let her drink from the well she shouldn't be pissed off at me enough to make me an enemy.
