I have concerns about the whole war table system that significantly reduce the experience of the game and also make replaying extremely annoying. i have just finished my first play through, here are my concerns:

Operations

  • Time: While adding an element of time increases the realism of the game, it also makes it extremely annoying. While i am willing to wait for a few minutes for an operation to complete some of the operation times are ridiculous. A 15 hour operation? it's too long! one is able to complete multiple areas in that much time and unlock 50 other operations which now also need to be completed. it would take weeks to complete the game by completing every operation. i personally think that anything over 2 hours is excessive. Breaks the story sometimes.

Spoiler

  • Clutter: The war table is too cluttered with completed operations. there should be a way to filter them.
  • Agents: Each agent reduces the operation time by 5%. I believe a more effective implementation would be that agents give additional operation of the type that can be run concurrently. This might also make the long time more bearable.

Power

Power is the currency that is used to advance in the plot. In terms of side quests, it helps on lock locked areas and pay for some side operations. The problem? Too much excess power, by the time i had finished the game i had over 300 excess power and absolutely nothing to do with it. I suggest two solutions that allow power to be better utilized as a integral element of the game rather than simply a delay mechanism to force side quests.

  • Power as a currency: Simple as that, allow the conversion of power to in game currency of sorts, it doesn't have to directly transfer to cash but that would be the simplest mechanism. use power to levy taxes and gain gold. Please suggest other ideas in the comments. Similarly, power could be spent to gain influence, raising the level of the inquisition.
  • Operations: Going back to the operations, while some operations can be completed by simply having enough power, most operations require time. A good way to utilize this would be to allow for power to be spent on any operation, While there is technically a way to gain infinite power, this may seriously make the game unplayable for people who spend it without think and get locked out of main quests. Fix? let the main quests require power gained rather than the actual spending of power. Thus to be able to start a main quest you must have gathered (irregardless of spending it or not) an X amount of power. Or much have an influence level of X, since influence is a non spendable resource.

Influence

Influence basically governs the level of the Inquisition, and with each level you get a perk. Some of the perks are super useful, the ability to carry extra potions, increase carry weight are a must to get. On the other hand, some of the perks SUCK!

  • Crafting Perks: These are terrible and completely a waste of precious influence. there are 6 of these in total, 3 for herbs and 3 for crafting materiel. Each perk grans the inquisitor a shipment of these crafting materiel. The problem? The shipment is minuscule and give i believe 10 quantity in for a very few select herbs. and only 1 or 2 quantity of the truly rare herbs. If it is a one time gain, i think it should be significant, at least enough to upgrade a few of the potions but these quantities are barely enough to maybe upgrade 1 potion. the tool tips are also misleading as in the case of herbs it mentions large (or massive?) quantities. a fix for this would be to simply increase the yields. or if Bioware wants to implement a more elegant way, add a time based delivery (a set amount every 3 hours?) of these materiel.

These are some of the things that really break the war table and some of my suggesting on how to fix it. If you have any better ideas, lets discuss. i don't know if boware will or is even willing to fix thus but let's see.
