But the maker isn't ultimate evil, Maker sounds more like something dwarves would call a god and the primal dwarves seemed be inclined to divine worship if the primal thiag showed anything. Even if he isn't the maker he might be one of the ancient dwarven gods from before they worshiped the stone itself.

He created the darkspawn to punish everyone for the sins of a handful of corrupt world leaders, and those corrupt leaders got super powers and immortality out of the deal while innocent folk were killed by the millions and the unluckiest turned into broodmothers.  He refuses to help the world because the time he tried to lay cable with a married woman didn't go swimmingly.

Yeah, I stand by my "ultimate evil" stance.  If we ever see the Maker, I'm sure he'll be a two kilometer metal cuttlefish.

Enchantment!

But actually, David Gaider is the Maker.  Everyone knows that.  Voice of God and all.

I think Sandal is the same thing Cole is, not to be mistaken with elven gods, Solas or Flemeth. Cole and Sandal both share the trait of something that feels like Autism, so my bet is that Sandal is also a spirit.

This thread's title is... I mean yeah, Sandal being a triple 'x'. I seriously clicked this thread expecting a discussion about how handsome Sandal is (to put it mildly). I think that as of Inquisition's timeline Sandal is hiding in Varric's chest hair, and Varric doesn't even know about it. Also, I think that Sandal is the incarnation of "The Stone"; really, Dwarves should worship him instead. He might also be a Dwarf Mage, heck... maybe even a Dreamer.

In any case, typing this only makes me realize that I'm missing my Sandal buddy, was awesome to have him in my own Estate in DA2. I mean sure Dagna is adorable, but that should have been Sandal's spot, seriously BioWare.

This is the same thought I had . Only Sandal has not gone through the traumatizing crap that led to self discovery and growth that Cole has.

Bodahn has kept him pretty sheltered .

But , Bodahn did mention that he was nearing the end of his years, and Sandal was going to work for someone in Orlais . With the type of crap that goes down in Orlais , and without Bodahn around , he may just come into his own.

Well, Dagna discovers that not only is Lyrium somewhat alive, it is also sort of a consciousness network all over Thedas.

Accordingly, my guess is that Sandal's enchantment talent and general weirdness could both be due to him simply showing unique symptoms of excessive exposure to Lyrium, to the point where he becomes some sort of a conduit whenever he spaces out.

Except Bioware's dropping hints that the blight predates Corypheus & Friends' Wacky Fade AdventureTM.

Not that I'm defending the Maker mind you, but I'm pretty sure the story's heading down the path that the blight has an alternate explanation.

They could go any direction with Sandal, though I think he began as just a joke about retarded people. See BioWare wasn't always as "tolerant" and "inclusive" as they claim to be today.

But the one thing I will say about Sandal is that his DA2 prophecy has still not come true yet. All the magic has not come back yet. The "he" that rises was not Corypheus because he may have already been released by the time Sandal says that. The skies did not open wide. The sky only opened in one place above the temple. The heavens did not part. So maybe that ties into a future game.

Or maybe Sandal was just talking nonsense.

I don't think so. The Golden City was once golden, and even Cory confirms that at the end of Inquisition. It must have been corrupted by something, and the magisters do seem to indicate that it was they who corrupted it. We also know for a fact that the magisters are corrupted by the taint. So it likely did come from the same event that turned the Golden City black.

If you're referring to Andruil and her finding the void, that could just be a reference to blood magic. All the elven drawings of elves with red around them, that could just signify blood. It would also make sense that Andruil was cut off from that power and not being able to find it again. It's easy to cut someone off from blood magic, but not so much from red lyrium. Plus, she was said to be cut off from the void and made to forget how to find it. Red lyrium is just blighted lyrium anyway. That comes from the taint. The taint comes from the Black City and the Magisters.

So the only way the Chantry story is wrong is if the taint existed through some other means first, then was taken to the Golden City by some spirit, and then the Magisters invaded the city and found it black and were corrupted by it. But there are too many inconsistencies with that. How was the taint created, the window of blighting the Golden City and the Magisters invading it is short, why would the old gods tell the Magisters to go there if it was blighted, how could the taint get to the Golden City through any spirit or demon when they are said to avoid the Black City because they don't understand the taint, etc.

Pretty sure he is a dwarf possessed by an Elven God spirit.

I mean from Flemeth we already know that they can take hosts that are not elves. We also already have theories abound that Sera is Andruil. So if two of the ancient spirits are running about Thedas, why not a third?

The only question is what spirit is he. In case of Sera there are lot of hints. But in case of Sandal we don't know much.

What we know is that he has occasional bursts of power when he is in real life threatening danger and is not all there at other times. All that might mean is that the magical elven spirit that is possessing him is finding it difficult to use his body as a host seeing as he is a dwarf and has a natural resistance /immunity to magic.

We also know that he is very good with enchantment and crafting and stuff. So, do we know of any Elven Gods who were powerful smiths or craftsmen?

Well, to be fair, many of his predictions did come true.  It is possible we are waiting for everything to play out.  All prophecies are open to interpretation, and here is mine over the skies opening wide:

The heavens in fact do part, because not only does the sky open up (giant gaping hole, you know the one I'm talking about) right above the Temple of Sacred Ashes.  The final resting place of Andraste.

As far as the "he" goes, I would say that it could be referring to Fen'Harel.  Once he awakens, everyone will know.

Sandal is a joke-character that existed to make stupid enchantment one-liners, scratch his butt and utter cryptic nonsense that could mean literally everything or nothing at all. He's gone now, thank the Maker/Urthemiel/Fen'harel/Mythal/the Elder One/the Stone/Whatever deity you whorship.
