Just wondering.   Someone told me a Dispel Magic power, whether Mage or Templar can wreak havoc on a Rift's monsters, true, and if so, how best used?

Dispel, or Teplar's banish magic can instantly kill the demons when they are first spawning in the green portals

You use Dispel on the spawn points that show up between waves, causing the demons to never appear from said point. Great way to thin out their ranks even before they can do anything, though you can't tell ahead of time if it's a big bad demon you've just avoided or just a wraith so it's a bit of a guessing game.

The Inquisitor also gets some rift-specific powers once you follow the main quest.

You can also just activate the rift in the middle of combat. Of course, I made the mistake of making my character the tank, so I can't :(

Seems like an oversight.

Other then what people said above I like to try and knock the ranged creatures out then taunt or otherwise distract melee creatures allowing my Inquisitor to disrupt the rift which does damage and stuns the monsters, which can help set up some nice recovery time or combos.

All right, now, silly question-that first Rift power you get, when you use it, do defeated enemies still drop loot, or not?

They do. At least non-demon enemies do - but I think demons as well.

Another good combo is to disrupt Rift, and then dispel as many enemies as possible. This causes combo (because they're stunned) and deals decent damage (especially if it's Templar dispel).

Of course disrupting Rift may be tricky.

I set all my companions to defend the herald.

Another trick after dispelling the portals is to lay down a fire or frost mine on the remaining ones. Demon pops out, either frozen and out of the fight.... Or BOOM!!

I use my inquisitor to context trigger the rift and stun enemies. it also hurts the health of the rift

Thanks for this thread. Really helpful. I didn't even think of using Dispel. Especially useful if I can use it to get rid of the demons before they even spawn, as one person said.
