Its impossible to play with friendly fire on?

I tried to play with this feature for a while, but end up killing my party several times. Its very annoying having to babysit your companions...you move them away from the enemy and two seconds later they are runing towards him and my AoE. They really like to hit each other too.

Disable companion AI. Problem solved.

Friendly Fire is done much better in Inquisition, than it was in DA2. It's not perfect, but it's better.

I imagine it's one of those features that a small minority enjoys, and if removed, would cause said minority to burn Bioware to the ground  :P

On a more serious note, I would think those folks who are all about the immersion aspect of RPGs enjoys having that option.

I had it off for a while on nightmare because my characters do not hold position, even when I tell them to in tactical mode. So I turned it off. If the tactical mode and camera was actually fully functional I would play with it on but because its like pulling your teeth out slowly one at a time using this poorly designed camera and because the a.i is totally completely inferior compared to dragon age origins, I decided to turn off friendly fire. Too much micro-managing, too much pain and not enough profit.

Yea, if the AI were a little smarter about it, or had more flexible settings, friendly fire would be more immersive and tactical and less of a chore.  You either have to turn AI off completely and have to constantly remind your allies to breath, or watch them instinctively gather together and run directly into every AoE ability you cast.

I'm satisfied with playing on Nightmare and not using a Knight Enchanter in anyway to provide sufficient challenge.  No need for friendly fire.

It was great when tactics where a thing.

I'm playing on Hard with FF on, but I suspect I can pull it off because I'm a compulsive micro-manager who has turned most of the AI abilities off and never even entered the Tactics screen in the previous DA games. It's sad to say, but you don't have enough follower automation options to really deal with casting big AoE spells. Vivienne wiped out my party a few times with Fire Mine before I told her to stop it, eh.

I think it's great that it's there as a choice for those who want it. I'm also relieved that no one is forcing me to use it. If it can exist in that context, why shouldn't it? It's not hurting anyone. (Except the silly party AI that doesn't wanna get out of the way, but that's their own bad.)

My problem with FF is, that the spell discription is sometimes misleading. Eg.: the chain lightning spell should only target enemies according to the discription. It is not an aoe-spell. Nevertheless it still affects friendlies.

I prefer having it turned on, but I'm microing everything due to no tactics menu anyway.

The ability descriptions should absolutely make it clear whether they will hit allies or not.

I'm not sure if you know this, but in earlier games, we didn't get to choose. Nightmare meant friendly fire was on.

Even worse, it the description for Chain Lightning says the range is 5 meters.  But I can cast it on baddies about 15m away and it'll still bounce back and hit me.

:/

There has to be friendly fire for the gameplay to be at all tactical. I can't play with friendly fire because it requires me to micromanage everyone (with completely disabled AI). That's the way I played DA:O, but in this game micromanaging your party is a ****** chore.

It's an option. Use it or not. Your choice.

Choice. You want more challenging / realistic fights - enable it. You want more arcade like action combat w/o much thought of tactics, turn it off.

It really make every battle - for me - a challenge (playing on hard atm), making key decisions when to use my AoE's / CC / debuffs etc. Positioning and awareness is even more crucial. Managing AI tactics is extremely important (no, you don't want your mage to cast fire mine next to your tank or rogue, neither do you want your KE to pop the bubble on top of your tank & rogue stunning them both next to a CC immune 2h berseker tehehe).

I love it.

I found it quite doable (enjoyable, even) on normal difficulty, though I suspect if I had played on a harder difficulty I would have eventually given in to frustration and turned it off. I just switched off all the companion abilities that do AOE damage in the tactics menu and controlled them directly, which meant they were still fairly hard-hitting on their own. It does make the game feel more tactical but it would be far better if companion AI and things like proper positioning were possible.

I love that the option is there but find it pointless without an achievement for it. I wanted to play through NM mode + FF. But there is no achievement for FF on. So it wont give me bragging rights.

Not having friendly fire on makes things trivial.  Taunt everyone in close, spam AOE effects.

Nightmare + FF is the only way to play!

Hell, I hope they patch it so that grenades do FF.  It's stupid for my guys to stand in Antivan Fire and take no damage.  Maybe its a bug.

Don't forget it also has to be on PC for maximum handicap.

I wouldn't have bought/played the game if it didn't have FF and the tactical mode, so I guess it's there for people like me.

Personnally I have been playing Bioware fantasy games for a while (since Neverwinter Nights)  and I always enjoyed the possibility to play tactical with friendly fire on B) . It's a Bioware tradition and it would be sad to see this option disappear  .

My point is that is praticly impossible to play right now with FF on...but Im glad that FF is in the game.

As some people wrote, you can use FF only if you turn off AI and play exclusivilly on the tac cam. I think this just shows how bad the AI is. Im really hoping for improvements soon.

I hope and expect they will improve the tac cam and keyboard controls for the tac cam.  I do end up wrestling the Tac Cam as much as the enemies in some fights.

Next you'll tell me everybody doesn't pause the game approximately every 1.5 seconds to give orders.

Really? Grenades don't cause FF? Didn't even notice that.

By the way, Antivan Fire is lame. Bees are the way to go!

A jar of bees, a jar of bees, everything is better with a jar of bees!

And some wasps.

Not true. Granted, I use the tac cam, but the AI is still on. Nightmare mode of course.
