4 Ability slots? Does it ever increase?

There are more than 4 possible abilities. Why are we stuck with 4 slots? Is there a way to cycle slots? There is plenty of UI room for more and if I recall in single player there is 8?

I think it is an intended design. It won't change. They want to balance multiplayer and bring an aspect of sacrifice and consequences to our multiplayer experience.

I think that's foolish, why offer more abilities than you can slot. I imagine that will likely lead to people only picking 4 skills and then just selecting passives for all the rest, for the most part.. :/

Seems more plausible that it's more of that nasty consolitus going around..

Four slots is the maximum, and no one is really happy with it. Four is okay for someone like the Reaver, but for tanks like the Templar and Legionnaire I really feel like I need most of the abilities from their trees to function well. Hell the Templar has to blow half their skills on one damaging combo before it goes on a massive cooldown, and the only way for their cooldowns to be reduced is by having everyone huddle together in an extremely small circle and attack, what is up with that?

Oh and we should also mention this combo does not work on bosses and stun resistant enemies, so yeah. Half of their skills are wasted in an attempt to help them kill trash mobs.

It's to balance multiplayer and give more reason to act strategically. It has nothing to do with consoles.

I really wouldn't mind 4 slots if abilities were better placed on the trees. In my opinion, you should never have to waste a point on an active ability you have no plans to use just for the passive behind it, especially when you only have 4 slots and however many skill points.

Congratulations on GETTING THE POINT.

This helps to create builds. With only 4 slots & limited weapon choices we should have min/max solved within a month at the rate the fiends are playing. I appreciate that so I don't mistakenly choose sub par skills.

Yep.  If they added more slots, you wouldn't have "builds", you'd just have that guy that unlocked all their skills.

I don't think having 5+ abilities is going to work well on a gamepad, especially when the game is in real-time.

I don't wanna get hit while choosing the powers.

Since there is no cross platform MP, I fail to see why the whole product has to be simplified.

I am actually ok with the 4 ability slots in mp (of course if there is an option to get more I would take it without any hesitation). What I am saying is I can live with only 4 slots. However what I am hoping is to increase the number of potion that we could carry. Just imagine have 5 jar of bees with you... Hopefully Bioware is going to increase the potion stack size with weekend events like in ME3MP.

The game has gamepad support and if there are 5+ slots the console players gonna whine, it's all about consistency across platforms.

Me'n mine are perfectly happy with it.  They completely redesigned the system so that stamina gating is now an actual thing--you'd only get to use a handful of abilities now.  If more abilities were allowed it'd:

1) Be mostly wasted because Willpower doesn't give stamina/mana

2) Massively homogenize the builds

3) Mean every character was a walking utility belt

I don't see why people are saying an increase in ability slots would weaken builds or tactical gameplay. We do not have access to unlimited stamina and mana and just because you have more active abilities doesn't mean your build won't center around a chosen few. Can you give me one good reason to bring Challenge over War Cry? Because I can't. Allowing the Legionnaire to have access to more taunts doesn't dilute his build in the least.

The Templar is likely the class that suffers the most from not having more skill slots. Half of her bar is taken up just to perform her only damage dealing combo, and while that is down she is just a poor mans legionnaire.

It enhances the need for working as a party. Many of the characters would feel the desire to leave their party and solo ifor they had access to their entire tree. It forces groups to work as a team, a good thing.

It can be a bit frustrating with a couple of classes no doubt about it but has not been a huge problem overall so far for me.

Gravemind, forcing teamwork lol. Seems like a bad idea & one that will not work. But we'll have to see.
