when you hit the button and hear the ping sound it puts off a radius circle it is supposed to be scanning, that is not the case on xboxone, if you are not standing on or directly in front of the object it doesn't show up
Who likes the new search system?

I don't get why everyone hates it. Half of the game's entire direction involves exploring. What sense of exploring is there if you can simply click a button and have it all show up on your screen?
I mean, I get that sometimes the search can be annoying, particularly if you accidentally pinged something from the wrong room and jog in circles like an idiot. But I feel like I would grow bored more quickly if I could find things too easily on the mini-map.
My issue is that instead of just holding a button to have the items show up, now I'm constantly spamming the search key as I'm running around so that I don't miss anything. It's one thing to make use of it for finding secrets, it's another thing to have to keep spamming it to see crafting materials or lootable items.

no man. you actually get to explore and NOT paying attention to the fricking minimap all the time misiing the beautifully crafted word they created.
Sorry, I missed the world because i was too busy trying to find that stupid herb that keeps setting off my ping.

Not fond of it. Just another button you need to hold down or keep pressing every few seconds.
But what really annoys me is that the mighty inquisitor is spending a huge chunk of his/her time picking up items like a porter on holiday season hotel. Inventory space is abysmally limited as well, which leads to constant back and forth between shops / research tables and exploration area. And of course there`s no item storage in the base either.
If I could do over some of the stuff for this game, I`d:
1) Change "valuable" and "monster research" items so that you are informed what you found and funds would be automatically given you next time you visit your base (basically your retainers handle the non-important business).
2) Instead of finding herbs and rock samples on zones, you would just try to find good spots where your lower ranked members would then harvest you the stuff.
Heck, this stuff is in the game in form of quarries and wood harvesting spots already. Why not just expand it to the rest of the stuff as well? War table gathering missions are laughable unless you glitch them by moving your computers clock ahead so they complete instantly to chain them.
3) Think over the fast travel spots in Skyhold. As it stands, there is no spot in the crafting room or next to the war table room. Which of course leads to another large chunk of time wasted just traveling down the same corridor and opening the same doors, AGAIN. Personally I would simply add few UI buttons that would show up when you are in Skyhold, which would instantly move you to the important rooms. It`s not like there is not enough running around in the game already anyway.

After a while it really distracts you from the game, and i find myself constantly pinging like a Sub. What i would suggest to the devs is, give us the old TAB and highlight for chests and crafting materials, and the new V for the secret stuff.
Exactly.

I really hate this a ton. I really really really wish I could just hit a button and it would loot everything within a certain range.

Personally I love it, it reminds me of that game 'hot or cold' you played as a kid.
You love having to press a key every 20 seconds to see if you missed something you might want to pick up? Hard to believe, but some people like blood sausage, so...
The real problem with the search key that no one has mentioned in any post I have read is... Not only do you have to press a key, but any objects in the area only stay "lit up" for a couple seconds. If I hear the ping that indicates something is in my area, I usually have to keep pressing the search key while spinning around to actually locate it.
It's a double whammy, irritating, frustrating, unnecessary addition to a game.
What has me most baffled though is who the heck was in charge of the design team??? It obviously was someone who is NOT a gamer and had no clue what gamers actually want in a video game.
As a caveat... This game also is very good and enjoyable in a lot of ways. But the frustrating design decisions that were made make it a chore to play in this beautiful world they have created.
