I have a ton, and heard there would be some quest that needed them, but they're taking up so much space!
When do I use gems?

I think most things in the valuable category should be sold.

The only things in "Valuable" that I don't sell are the research items (they have text descriptions).

Yes, as do i but dare i say i feel that it would've been wiser to make dedicated tab for research items rather than lump them in with "junk" valuables.
edit. currently selling valuables are too tedious if there is research items mixed in.

I agree with this, didn't there usedto be a sell junk button? It's not like it's game breaking but it can get abit annoying selling a research item by accident

Yeah, I just finally sold off my gems. I'm 40 hours in, and haven't gotten a requsition for them, so, yeah.

That may be, though the ship has sailed unfortunately.
With the research items being at the bottom I just start at the top and start clicking until I get to "yellow icon" items. The other things I have done have been dumping the research items at the research table first then visiting the merchant (this opportunity may not always present itself, however).

I was unaware of this, so I must have sold a lot of those items. Thanks for the advice though! I will do this from now on. ![]()

The gems are occasionally used for requisitions, mainly in the later areas of the game.
We really need a chest to store this crap.

I must have sold tons of research items then. Ugh. This should be made clearer. Is there a way to check where you are with research?
Yes, individual creature codex entries will show your progress. Also, when you get a bonus against any particular type, the text description will say so.

That ship has sailed? Surely adding a new inventory tab is one of the easier things to accomplish in a patch. Heck, I know that is one of the easier things to get done.

Treasure gems (Aquamarine, etc.), or the special gems ("Decorative Gem")?
