I have a mission {not sure how missions affect game-play} which takes 8 hours to do (so not going to save the game, do it, not like it and re-do it; like I do with some small actions in-game).

Depending upon which advisor I send they each want to kill a different person and I don't want it to be a big problem if I choose the wrong one.

One wants to kill the Bard, one the Mortalitasi and one the Smuggler.  All I know from the text is that he/she is a Fereldan.

If missions don't have a big impact on the main game/rewards etc then let me know and I will just pick one at random.

There is a difference between Leliana and the other two, but not too big in the grand scheme of things.

Spoiler

Also, let this finish before making Iron Bull Tal-Vashoth, if you do. Otherwise it won't be successful. (Nothing bad happens, but you don't get any rewards either.)

Ah! This one bugged me. I think I just skipped past the wrap-up text for the previous two operations in this chain, so I was missing information. So all I knew was that the tal-vashoth is not the bard, the elf is not the mortalitasi, and the dwarf is not the smuggler. So obviously the tal-vashoth is the mortalitasi, the elf is the smuggler, and the dwarf is the bard, given this information. And since it said the Fereldan was the spy, I assumed the elf had the greatest chance at being fereldan and had Josephine tell the Ben-Hassrath to take out the smuggler. But it was wrong.

The text referenced Five Belles, not three, so I assume some more information was present after the other ops (I mean, a tal-vashoth as a mortalitasi? seems unlikely.) I kind of wish it had let me go back and read the rest of the information, since even if I did read it initially, I still might have forgotten it by the time this operation came up, given the times to complete the others.

But, I apparently should have just trusted the spymaster. Though that seemed like way too obvious a choice, you know?

The Tal-Vashoth is NOT a mage, therefore NOT a mortalitasi.

actually if u chose Josephine's option they killed the bard not the smuggler ...obviously this was a bad choice, who kills bards anyways :P

This puzzle is one of those elimination squares like in Mass Effect 2. You do them like this:

The lore knowledge from Starcloud will allow you to figure out who the Venatori agent is :)

I eventually went with the one whose methods sounded best.

This should help: Investigate Hunter Fell. That page includes the full text of the first part of this operation and links to the later parts (Continue Investigation and Identify Venatori Agent).

Same here. It seems like it made limited impact.

There are WAR TABLE missions that seem to not really matter on who you pick at times. like I swear no matter who I send to Sebastian I still get the ungodly amount of 100 gold. However for the Severen mission defenetly send in Liliana since they have personal history.

Spoilers, explanation

I know I'm late to the game on this, but I cracked the code.

If you read from the first of the three missions, you know there is an Orlesian, Ferelden, Elf, Dwarf, and Tal Vashoth.

And each of them is one of the following: Mortalitasi (mage), Dragon Hunter, Bard, Smuggler, and Apostate.

So you can set up your 5x5 chart if you want.

You find out the apostate is not human. And you know a mage isn't a dwarf or Tal Vashoth. So the elf is the mage.

You get clues in each mission description and solution telling you things like the Mortalitasi isn't the Dwarf or from Ferelden. So on and so forth until finally you can deduce that the Ferelden is the smuggler. Also the Dwarf is the Bard, the Mortalitasi is from Orlais, the Dragon Hunter is Tal Vashoth.

And all that gets you like 30 more influence than the wrong guess or something. So who cares.

 same. I figured the spy would know what she was talking about. Glad I was right :P
