There exists the possibility that Knight Enchanter is too powerful?

I spec'd Vivienne to be pretty much a hardcore Knight Enchanter.
She Melee'd Vinsome to death.

How dare you to speak about BALANCE in a single player game?!?! ;)

Yeah, it's known that KE can solo everything by pressing 2 buttons. But this was more-less also true of Charge/Nova Vanguards in ME3 and nobody changed those.

KE turns a party-based game with dozens of abilities across 4 characters into a solo game with one button. Two if you're playing on higher difficulties and need to use Fade Cloak. Was this intentional, I wonder?

The funny thing is that this was my second attempt at Vinsomer - First try, I had Viv acting as a ranged mage - I hadnt grasped the purpose of the Knight Enchanter at that point.....

Why would we need any other specializations kinda disappointed that Rift Mage isnt as powerful.

I don't get how this got past them, or why they didn't care. Some unbalance in a single player game is no big deal but KE is just ridiculous. You might aswell play with godmode.

I finally got it tonight after looking forward to playing a melee mage  but it just sucked all the fun out of the game for me.

It is powerful. I don't personally find a problem with that.

I've dropped as a KE a few times because I didn't keep my barrier up and got swamped . I dont' have a defence against knockback or knock down, and that can cause the barrier to drop as well. It isn't invincible but it's cool :)

The defense is Fade Cloak which gives you immunity to all damage, and it's up almost all the time. If not, you can use Fade Step for a quick getaway.

KE is powerful but not invincible. If you are knocked down or your attacks are blocked your barrier falls. I'm sure it will be nerfed though with people complaining. Until then don't play as one. Problem solved.

The thing is, I'm not sure how this can be nerfed. If you can't generate enough barrier, the whole concept fails. If the cooldown reduction is nerfed, than you can't escape an unblockable attack and the concept fails.

I did use it, but have mostly regular spells and chose it for the focus ability. I usually play with Solas, though. I love Rift Mage. I initially chose Rift Mage for myself, but 2 Pull of the Abyss is ridiculous. Nothing can get close to you anymore, and since it's then safe that you're all clumped up, I could even cast barrier on all four party members.

You cannot nerf Knight Enchanter without making it powerless and useless. The specialization's core principles relies on Barrier generation per hit.

Take that away and the class becomes pointless.

It would be better to improve the other 2 mage specializations.

They could, however, make it more involved, so that it involves more than pressing one (two) buttons and rewards skill on some level.

On nightmare, using Frost Step and Barrier as well as some fire spell is essential to a Knight Enchanter....So they will use more than just Fade Step and Spirit Blade...

The point of the Knight Enchanter is to make Nightmare and tough encounters doable without having to invest in gear or crafting or combos

It does not become pointless... i'm playing without Fade Shield now beacuse i think it makes the game a joke, owning everything  by just pressing two buttons isn't fun.. at all.

Boosting the other two proffesions dosen't solve anything but just makes things even worse.

Playing KE without fadeshield is acually sort of fun if abit weak, if they nerf Fade Shield to maby 10-20% of damage done it would probably be fine

Some people like being OP. Some people like challenges.

Shouldn't there be options for both? Calling to nerf one specialization is sort of...well it's kind of mean against people who have been putting in hours with their KE. Like as many people have said, if you don't like it, you don't have to use it. But why campaign against taking it away from people who like using it? Just seems...I dunno, I just don't follow the logic behind it.

This is the way the KE is supposed to be played. It is not cheating if this is how the game designed it to be.

There is an option for both, it's right there in options under difficulty.

No one is "campeigning" or trying to "take something away from you", don't be childish. This is a public forum where we discuss and share our opinions of the game and it's classes.

This particular thread happens to be about how powerful the KE is, a playstyle i was looking forward to playing and I have every right to voice my opinion on the class as you have to voice yours.

And i'm not buying for a second that you think this how it was intended to play, you even called it OP yourself and you wouldn't be so paranoid over people saying that it's too powerful.

I don't use Knight Enchanter because it doesn't really have any use in a party. If you want to solo it is okay but i like using party members. This is unfortunately why I don't use viv.

You may have essentially soloed him with KE but it took 10 minutes to kill... When I run dragons on my team, even when I fought the level 20 dragon at level 16, nobody died, and it certainly didn't take 10 whole minutes...

I fond rift mage fun and challenging at the same time.  I run with a group of all mages when going for dragons and it's a blast.  No KE in my group.  Only 1 RM and one Necro.  The other two have no specializations.

Because from what i have seen in videos it looks totally boring and very little fun after awhile.

Each to their own but i think many KE's are going to get bored reeeeeaaaal quick once the novelty wears off.

KE isnt nearly as good as people try to make it out to be.

lvl12 and just got my KE spec. So went to hinterlands to kill the dragon there (nightmare). Its really hard. Wiped 3 times, but prob because Im too sleepy atm. Will prob make it when I wake up but... it wasnt as good as I had hoped.

1) Mana problems. Even with +50%. Despite SB just costing 10 mana.
2) You do still take massive damage from melee physical attacks
3) Barrier growth is mediocre.

People saying KE is OP are probably people playing normal.
This coming from someone who rerolled nightmare 60 hours in because hard was too easy, also never used tactical cam on hard either. Then again... tired so that might count :P

1) If you get in close, you use 3, max 4 skills, that's it. I had enough mana regen.

2) Of course you do, why would it be any different? You have one skill that grants immunity and one to reposition. Use them.

3) It depends on the damage that you do ...

Here's a video where you can see it in action. Don't pay attention to the barrier regen and damage. The character is high level and has nice gear. Do pay attention to the playstyle.

Good luck!

I see the problem. I'd heard KE was so OP so much now that when I tried it, I just kinda went yolo with autoattack.

This guy actively uses fade cloak and step to avoid damage and strategically position himself. I'm glad to see KE isnt so OP that you can just faceroll the keyboard. Yes its powerful, but it seems like it does require skill, awareness and positioning in battle - making it a more active playstyle than the brand it has been given as "auto-attack auto-win".
