So unless there is somethere glaring obvious I have missed (not hard with such a counter-intuitive UI), is there truly no way to easily switch weapons mid fight in DA!?! So when they said you can go between rogue daggers and bow, they didnt mean literally or simply. You can only go knives OR bow.

I have been playing RPG since the original Baldurs Gate (and before) and cant believe this game was made by Bioware who were responsible for some of the greatest RPG's ever. I cant remember the last game I have played as a rogue where I couldnt use a bow to pull (or in some parts of fights) then swtich to daggers when things got rough.

Please tell me I am missing something? because seemingly with this game the more I play the more obvious things have been cut for no good reason at all.

You cannot switch, beats me why. Only thing you can do is spec into abilities that teleport you away from or to your foe, whatever it is that suits you.

I have to admit not being able to change weapons is the dumbest things about this game.

Dumb, dumb, dumb and I'll say it again... dumb.

There's definitely a trend in game design where developers take options away from us and then tell us it means the game is more "tactical".

No, no it isn't.

your preaching to the choir on that,

I blame older gamers whose "good old days" were when the only way to make games hard were to limit player. they make a association between had trouble with and tactical without knowing why they had trouble because of a smaller pool of reference for game combat systems. or tabletop rpg fans who don't realize most of the "tactical" features are really there so it's easier to remember .like vancian casting their is no reason in universe it would work like that. but it's a lot easier to remember then doing a whole lotta math to figure of a mana bar, plus fighting about how much you had left with your GM. and no one want to be told "it like that cause your too dumb to remember it otherwise" but because it's more tactical makes it sound like you could be smarter then most people. nevermind 5 years can play these games just fine. don't even need to be smart 5 year olds.

but these are just one guy theories. and they're only good for generalizing.

@n7stormrunner: So you agree the trend is to keep removing options to pretend this makes the game more "tactical" yet you are blaming older gamers who obviously had way more options seeing as they were playing in the "good old days" (remember, the trend you agreed to was taking away options, right?)...  how does that make sense again?

Not that I don't hate this too, but this was the case in DA2, was it not? Only Hawke could ever change weapon type and you had to go into the inventory to equip a different item, as I recall..

Nope can't even change weapons in combat.
Last night -and I'll be somewhat vague because spoilers, but I was fighting a group of enemies weak to fire then a big guy comes in who resists fire.

My mage inquisitor had to sit that fight out except for barrier spam. I mean she's a walking armoury because no storage chest but can't swap to more appropriate gear?

What would be the point in changing weapons? Warriors can't even use bows.

Who knows?

Yes OP you can't switch between weapon sets, but different weapon types of the same style have different animations. (Maces vs Swords)

You win some you lose some. Focusing on the negative is not a healthy way to live.

It's more about rogues who use either bows or daggers not being able to switch during a fight or mages changing their staff type.
