"They sleep, masked in a mirror, hiding, hurting and to wake them..." - Cole about the Elven Gods. How about the Old Gods? What are they? Their fate doesn't suit the "masked in a mirror" part which is Eluvian, I believe. They ended up in the Deep Roads. I don't think that the Elven Gods are the Old Ones and the Black City is not the place where Elven gods were living.

I've been watching this thread for a few days, and after reading it all I only have 2 things:

The scene with Cole back in Skyhold after the ending, with 'I must walk this path alone', gave me the feeling that the two first had tried other means to gain a common goal, but failed. Solas does not want to be alone, but with the orb broken, he cannot gain back his former power on his own. Flemythal knows this, and knows that he does not actually want that, but has to, for achieving that goal.

I've finished this game twice already but I don't ever recall hearing Cole say anything like that. What is this event specifically?

Also, about a touchy subject I've noticed, whether Solas absorbed Mythal's power or if Flemythal was lying about body takeover and took over Solas' body.

It must be apparent that every time you finish a main mission, Solas adds another panel to his mural wall. After the epilogue, it seems like he came back to Skyhold one more time to scratch in his last mural. Hastily, but still there.

I think this is more evidence that if this was a standoff like some people say, Flemeth was definitely not the winner...

I'm not sure if Bioware would really just throw away such an iconic character just like that, she may have another plan for herself. But I'm very certain that Solas is in charge of his own body after the epilogue.

If DA4 is about the elven gods I hope the Inquisitor is still the protagonist. They're too tied to the orb to leave all of that major plot stuff to somebody else.

Yeah, plus my Inquisitor would like to smack him for leaving her hanging like that! Yes yes, I know he was trying to protect her. I'm still mad at him.

I'm not sure if the Elven Gods were just powerful mortals. Even Morrigan was confused about their incredible powers. What was the reason for building a temple for mortal? Dalish Elves don't know the truth about the Elven Gods and worship them, because they live centuries after the events that made Fen'Harel mad at his own kind, while the Ancient Elves knows the truth, because they were in the center of events. I don't think they would pray to the mortal warlords and mighty mages - to Mythal. Also I don't think that Mythal was mortal that forced her own people to worhsip her. Abelas did not look like someone forced by fear to worship the goddes.

My current theory is that the elven gods essentially came into being the same way Cole did.  There is a party banter from Cole to Solas about how Solas is real, and that means everything could be real.

I'm with you here. This mural makes it obvious that Solas knew what he was going to have to do, so Flemythal did not take him over, but the other way around.

I still wonder about that, since there's the comment in one of the letters that Solas is painting the actions of the Inquisitor. If the last panel is his own action, or a hint, or a clue, that would be an interesting departure.

Cole was talking about Lavellan, I think.

He was talking directly to her when he said that line.

There is a theory about the Old Gods actually being the Elven Gods. It would work... if the Orb is able to open the breach to every single location in the world or Fade. Does he really need to use such a magic to go to the Deep Roads? It's possible.

I don't think that Archdemons are the vessels for the essences of the Elven Gods, but actually for their souls. It makes more sense. We know that they were imprisoned and Fen'Harel needs the Orb. It's useful if the Dread Wolf's goal is to save the rest of his kind before the Dark Spawn will currupt them which means death at the hands of the Grey Wardens.

The next important thing is the reason for Dumat's whispers to Tevinters about the Golden City. Maybe the City was something different before corruption and Dumat (one of the Elven Gods) wanted to get something from it or just corrupt the entire Thedas as his revange? We know that Magisters ended up in the Deep Roads, starting the First Blight. I think that Dumat cheated on them to go out of his prison to destroy the world which wasn't the same after their banishment and the Blight was his weapon. Flemeth said that Mythal was betrayed as well as the world was.

That is seriously awesome. If that is truly the direction Bioware is going with the game regarding the elven part then woah, mind blown, makes me look at Inquisition in a new light. But there has been a different theory bandied about one of their games before: I'm talking about Mass Effect 3. They made a ****** poor ending, but there was a mindblowing theory bandied about it, so there was hope. Instead, they pissed on it, released some crappy DLC, and that was that. I can see that happening here, too.

There is no answer why Dumat would say that the Golden City is Maker's home and who the hell is Maker? It seems that myth about Maker and his City was older than Tevinter. It makes no sense with the theory that Fen'Harel (when he was dreaming) introduced himself to Andraste as Maker to punish Tevinter which destroyed the Elves completely (right after they started destroying themselves). It makes no sense, because Andraste was born after Magister's arrival in the Black City, so Maker was created by Dumat to convice Tevinter to go to the Black City or he really exists.

Ah, so he was.  I forgot that was a romance-specific banter.  Rats.  I liked my theory.  :P

Another video with Solas Romance. There is some importan informations about the elven history. So sad... I'm mad because my male Lavellan wasn't able to get this knowledge from Solas and react emotionally.

A key thing may be in the mural. All of Solas's murals are nice except that last one right? If flemythal took over, maybe she doesn't have the artistic skill of solas and that's why it looks different.

maybe the old gods are the forgotten ones and the dread wolf lured them into the deep roads and the elven gods the dread wolf lured into the magic mirrors?

gawd dayum!  Id say that has to be the best romance clip for the DA:I.   I never saw this until now and in every play thru I've completely avoided all romance options because nothing there is appealing to me as male inquisitor. I wont roll a fem char just to reach this clip, but wow that scene was fricken awesome!

I think Solas was being honest in that scene. He seemed to not want to hurt or change something that is supposed to eventually happen in the timeline. Out of all the romance vids for inquisition I've seen this is definitely the best one.

If Fen'Harel trapped all the elven gods in the Golden City it makes sense that they would make lure and trick the Tevinter mages first by teaching them blood magic and then a ritual that would allow the most powerful among the mages to walk in the Golden City, something seen in the Fade but unreachable. The elves wanted to escape and were using the magisters to do it.

The Maker could simply be the story the elves told to help them with that goal.

I think the same! That's why I'm sad that there is no chance for male Lavellans to get this knowledge and react emotionally. You know, a serious conversation between friends about he real history of the Elves.

I really like your theory, but it has one weakness - why the Elven Gods ended up sleeping in the Deep Roads as the Archdemons?

There's certainly some connection with the 7 old gods and elves. An elven ruin at the emerald graves have statues of 7 dragons with the center one looking very different. Additionally, there are these 7 demon looking statues(thier alternate forms?)

Mmm... it's an elven word for pride/arrogance though. He probably choose this name to remind himself about his past mistakes. "What pride have wrought" and so on.

Well, it certainly explains why he was against the Grey Wardens and the plan to find the buried old god dragons / arch-demons and kill them before they awaken.

I'm not sure about that, because humanity has no choice and must kill them.

Yes, but Solas expresses a strong disagreement for the plan.

It sort of seemed out of character at the time, after I realised who he really was I see why he had the issue.

After you finish the game, you can talk once more to your companions. Cole will then deliver that message.
