Ok.. so I'm 8 hours into this game and while I am enjoying it, combat is really bugging me. I was hoping for a tactical view that was useful but nope. Companion AI is horrbily frustrating as many many people have mentioned and the limited ability to set detailed tactics is annoying. Game balance among classes is not all there. I'm going to put this game away for a bit and hope for some updates that will resolve some of it... especially because I will be busy for the next month. Hopefully Bioware will resolve some of these issues. I am a super hardcore DA:O fan who loved overhead tactical and micomanaged eveyone but it doesn't work in DA:I!
8 hours in... gonna wait (hope) for a patch...

This game is amazing even with the bugs. Oh well, each his own I guess.
I too look forward to the patch, but the bugs, tactical cam are nowhere near destroying my experience. I keep getting impressed the further I delve.

While I'm not ready to throw in the towel myself (still enjoying the game regardless of bugs and problems), I can certainly fantasize about how much more enjoyable the game would be if they do fix the things I find frustrating.
It's like going to watch an awesome movie but the chairs are uncomfortable, you're too close to the screen, and someone is talking on their cell phone in the next row.

I'm not throwing in the towel. Like I said, I'm enjoying the game (i'm not one of those people in the other forum asking for a refund). But there are issues that have prevented me from getting my usual addiction to such an anticipated game. (I was addicted to DA:O almost instantly). I'll put the game on hold since I have other stuff I need to do (non gaming related) and hopefully there will be some updates by then.

^ This is so much how I feel... this comparison to a good movie in the theatre is SOOOO WELL-SAID i almost want to shed a tear.
Unfortunately, i look for every excuse to play something else (e.g. Evil Within) while i can't bear to play the game beyond 20mins as my DW rogue as i swap from Norm to Hard (1 or 2 fights) in Hinterlands, then i quick-save and Alt-F4.
Norm is TOO EASY, while hard, is just sooo annoying as a DW rogue with clunky movement around those shield-warriors etc. I just hate the tact for AI and the constant micro-management---
I dont like ranged, and i dont like mages in DnD type games. I always will, and forever will be a rogue char because their playstyle is always more compelling and versatile to me.
(To me, for the first time, this game just makes it frustrating... I think my most annoying thing is auto-attack. I'm aware that hitting TAB to lock-on sortof helps for target tracking/following around the battle field, but its the FACT THAT I NEED TO HOLD DOWN that button inbetween spamming abilities which is extremely uncomfortable and unfun.)
I think majority of players feel like combat is just OFF... (for those playing range chars, its just simply not as jarring, i get it. I told numerous friends of mine before they purchased that Melee combat [especially for a rogue] feels strange, but I'd imagine as a range, it won't be as jarring [putting the tact-cam aside]
What is extremely weird to me is how reviewers and previewers around the world seemingly never mentioned this clunky-**** all throughout the numerous conferences and gametime all year long.... VERY-strange and disingenuous, lol are they all brainwashed or just unable to conceive terrible mechanics?
end rant.

This is why I'm more than happy to wait for a patch.
Not going to ruin my experience and waste my money just to struggle with some wacked out console port control system...

No implementation of autoattacking is a good thing for this game, Dumaraz. I really like it!

1- How so?
2- Let me guess, you are playing either (logical OR)
2a- not on a PC
2b- with a controller
2c- a ranged char.
Am I correct? If so, I'd like to dare you go back to a PC, with KB+M control, and play a DW rogue, and then come back here. I bet your statement won't be the same ^^

I don't mind the lack of autoattack so much (though I would prefer just having one, especially on ranged characters pressing R feels meaningless), but the AI and tactical view being a mess is really frustrating.
My only advice is to play on easier difficulties until they've fixed it. I'm playing on normal, and I've only had problems during some boss fights.

Try experiencing the game from my PC Chair. I have crashed to desktop in my 20 hours of gameplay atleast 75 times.

Oh you poor PC users always spitting out the same excuses. Blame it on the consoles, not the wacked out design. Sorry to break it to you and your master race, but the same issues are being complained about on consoles as well.

With all the issues (some new, most recurring) being brought up, my skepticism towards Bioware's ability to fix the game through patched support alone grows larger each passing day. Stuff like the controls, camera and general performance issues will be hard to solve due to their deep-seated nature. But hope dies last, as they say.

There is hope:

Bioware is aware of the driver support issues, the hitching and frame rate issues in cutscenes, the keyboard and mouse controls that some PC gamers found ‘weird’, as well as the demand for general user interface optimizations for the PC.

Yup. Usually I never buy a game when it is released. I wait a month or two when all the major issues are fixed via patches. But I was so amped for DA:I that I just went for it. Should have stuck to my original plan.

That makes no sense, unless you are saying consoles are forced to use a m&kb system?
It *is* a wacked out design. That's the point.

I play on PC and crushed only once in about 50 hours, not even sure if it was a game fault or something else.

I do not remember having to do that for DA2 or Origins.

Professional reviewers need to get through as much of the game in as quick a time as possible to do a decent review without missing the window. So the vast majority play on "Normal". I think one reviewer confessed that they played on "Easy" and plans on playing another run on "Hard" on their own time.
If you play on Normal/Easy, you don't need the tactical view and it doesn't matter what class you play since the game isn't that hard.. even with a DW rogue.

I waited a bit for both games. I can't remember if there were any nasty issues on release or not. Maybe not. But many games are released with bugs that need to be patched quickly after game release (I'm thinking of Fallout 3 and New Vegas)

Funnily enough, the difficulty slider hardly matters when you dual-wield daggers because 90% of your battles will be between the player and the controls, and the remaining 10% of the battles will be between the party and its enemies. ![]()
