I just started playing, even though I preordered and got the game earlier in the week. I finish intro area, and get the pre order weapon and armor for my mage. I never used them. I got better grey common items just wandering around Haven, before I even got in any fights or left Haven. I don't expect pre-order stuff to last forever, but the fact that it's worthless is annoying.
Pre order gear is useless

pre order gear always is best thought of as a slight help at the start. You eventually outgrow it but at the start it helps.
