If you haven't reached Skyhold, stop here.

Ok, so you get to pass judgment on Alexius. The options as I recall are.

1) Death.

2) Imprisonment.

3) Being made Tranquil.

4) Being forced to serve the mages.

So what did you choose?

I confess for me it was a toss up between 3 and 4. I ultimately went with 4 because while the thought of stripping Alexius to a shell of his former self amused me and seemed fitting, he wouldn't have been able to feel the pain of the consequences of his actions, the shame of failure or the humiliation of being made a slave to those he would have enslaved (I've always wanted to do that to a Tevinter slaver, Bioware thank you.)

I chose death, sort of as a mercy. The guy was only trying to save his son, who is now dead.

I forced him to work with the mages, as I felt it a fitting end for a man who only committed his evil acts out of a desperate love for his son. Of course that doesn't diminish what happened in that false future, but I couldn't justify killing him - particularly since he could be made to help the Inquisition given his status within the Venatori.

Death. I believe Tranquility should represent an alternative path, not a punishment, and I feel like Alexius is too dangerous for the other options.

If you have Arcane Knowledge perk, you can order him to further research his Time Magic under supervision and custody , which I regard is the best option. Dorian approve this.

I thought about making him a researcher but I didn't feel like someone who had made choices that poor and seemed so unrepentant deserved redemption. I sentenced him to imprisonment.

Yes, I did this. I felt it was a merciful choice, especially since he did what he did out of his love for his son. And it's also a useful choice. The Inquisition may benefit from the fruits of his research.

You can make him your magical researcher, which I did.

I mean, he was using magic that no one in Thedas thought possible, not even Fen'Harel. For all his flaws, he has tremendous intellectual magic potential...

It is the best all round option...

A bit off topic, I don't even hesitate turn another Venatori mage Tranquil though.

Unlike Alexius, he totally deserve it and watch him scream and squirm is oh so effing satisfying.

He was only tearing holes in spacetime, opening breaches to call forth the Elder One and enslaving hundreds of mages to save his son.

I'm really tired of that type of villain. Like we're supposed to sympathize with that. I've made a "stand" in every game I could against that sort of thing.

I made him my researcher. Because time travel magic. Killing him doesn't gain us anything, and he was doing it all for his son, who he now accepts is going to die anyways, so it's not like he's all that dangerous anymore.

Nah, I pity him, but not sympathize, HUGE difference.

I made him my researcher for my own benefit.

I made him continue his research under Inquisition supervision. It made me think of Operation Paperclip.

This is what i did, and surprisingly i got minor disapproval from only a few party members, mainly sera and cassandra, but there was no greatly disapproves, only slightly....  thought i made out like a bandit in the approval area.

I spared Alexius and enlisted him as a magical researcher (under house arrest). I figured he wasn't that bad a guy, he just made some very poor decisions due to the torment of his son's impending death. At the time of judgement, he hadn't actually done anything really bad... all his "crimes" happened in the future, and in the future he clearly regretted what he'd done anyway.

I saved Tranquility for a mage who truly deserved it - that bastard who manipulated the Wardens into mass murder and demonology. He was an unrepentant megalomaniacal zealot, and he was all "Go on, kill me, I'll be laughing at you from the afterlife". So, I gave him a fate worse than death.

Research. The guy invented time travel. Only way to get the populace to stop fearing magic is to understand it.

If I'd had the Arcane Knowledge Perk, I would have done what many of you did and put him to research, not because he deserves it but because it fits the Bioware theme of doing whatever it takes (seen all throughout Mass Effect and Dragon Age) and putting aside petty injustices to focus on larger problems.

Im curious which of the four other options the rest of you would have chosen if you hadn't had the Arcane Knowledge Perk and thus the option to put him to research?

P.S. TheDarkKnightReturns, like your avatar photo. I love HISHE. Especially the Super Cafe.

I am going be making him tranquil no good rotten ******* slaver. I side with the Mages mostly because the stoy was cool, since we get to see that future we hope will not happen. I wished I could've gotten Cullen in this other future, I mean Lelliana is OK and all but I kind of wanted a last kiss from him, as I wacth in horror, as he is killed as I was romancing him. I think that would've been better at the feels than watching someone my inqustior barely knows get killed in the end.

I made him a magic researcher but I thought I would get to see him in the tower or library so I was disappointed with that. Do you get to see him as Tranquil if you choose that?

I wish I imprisoned him now, I don't have anyone in the Skyhold dungeon yet.
