MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

No preview or critic has mentioned it and all of the trailers and previews treated the tacfical camera like the second coming of jesus but what good does a tactical view do when THERE ARE NO FREAKIN TACTICAL OPTIONS?!?!

it was fine in origins, excellent with origin's mod that gives you an insane ammount of control. It was bad in DA2 but ok after they got some sense and patched more options in the tactical customization but this game? Ho... this game is borderline garbage strategy wise.

Like 4 options to tell the ai when to take a potion and who to follow or protect? Which even then doesnt work or detailed enough to be functional.
3 options per ability? Never use, use or favorite? You kidding me? I have more options than that when i buy toilet paper!

Im playing on nightmare and friendly fire is not even an option because the ai kills me or i kill them when even in tactical camera they move back into my line of fire.
And god forbid if i give them aoe abilities like chain lightning! They wont care if its a group of 5 enemies or 1 enemy with 4 of my team-mates (including me) circle him, an aoe spell is coming and a letter of condolences is on its way to my team's families. You could tell me to just turn that spell off in the tactics menu but ill reply with: 1. Id prefer an option to tell the ai to use it the smart way like in the first game and 2. What tactics menu? This tactic menu has the strategic value of the flight or fight instinct and has almost the same number of options! The same if you count "favorite" and "active" the freakin same.

Tanking in this game is garbage AT BEST since an ai doesnt know how to use block and dodge properly, so im forced to "assume direct control" over the tank to get the job done. mages use barrier on a target regardless if being attacked, ability order is messed up and non-sensicle and aoe abilities are wasted on single target despite having multiple targets stacked on eachother close by.

In coclusion: you mislead your fan base and customers and your tactics menu is bad and you should feel bad. Fix this, comment on it or at least support modding so someone will do your job for you and make the tactical aspect of the game that you have been PRAISING work.

I wanted to add a compariso between this game's tactic menu and this mod's tactics menu:http://www.nexusmods...&preview=&pUp=1

But im kind of busy atm and it has so many options it would take a long time to list them all. Unlike inquisitiin that has 3 options. Kudos. Garbage.

yep... i think it's an issue that needs to be talked about more because i don't often see a thread about tactics, nevermind the reason bioware decided to go this route and cripple the tactical aspect of dragon age

too right on the tank point, my cassandra ignores mobs that are attacking everyone else if i set her to defend a particular party member... why isn't there a setting to defend EVERY party member?

mages do indeed trigger the shield if you so much as accidentally swing your weapon because swinging your weapon puts you in combat mode

i don't think we'll ever see anything closely resembling the tactics of DA:O and DA2, either they cut corners or couldn't figure out how to implement them using the frostbite engine, i think both are just as likely as eachother

I think ppl said the same about da2 until it got patched. By that point, tho, i was way done with the game and erased it from my memories as if the game never existed.
Garbage.

This. Is. GARBAGE! Fixing something with a patch does not undo the damage done by it. If this wont get fixed soon ppl might quit.

The lack of the tactics system is probably my single biggest disappointment about this game. In Origins, Tactics could be set up to significantly offset the innate stupidity of the AI companions and stop them leaping to their deaths at every opportunity, but now we are forced to micromanage everyone individually, and they frequently don't respond to the commands you give them and just charge suicidally into AoE anyway. Nerfing Tactics could have been okay if the default companion AI was much smarter than Origins, but it's not, it's actually worse. While there is not much hope for a fix in DAI, for the next game, either the base companion AI needs to be massively improved or the tactics system restored.

Why not both tbh.. this game is awesome and would be a good sequal to origins IF it had the tactic menu of origins or even the origin's mod if i could be greedy.

YES.   Where did it go?  Did Play-testers say "Nah, Defend and Follow is FINE, anything else will just confuse the neebz."

???

I haven't had a problem with the tactics. Mainly because they don't friggin' exist. My god, the amount of micromanaging I have to do on just normal difficulty is ridiculous.

i don't remember DA2 shipping with no tactics... maybe less rows overall but it was still a functioning tactics system

It had a lot more than this nonesense but it was a lot more barebones than its prequal until they patched more options.

Yeah, I loved the tactics system in Origins, especially with the mod that expanded on it.

For most 'routine' battles, it really made it possible to let them play out and not have to pause every five seconds to issue orders.

On the other hand, for really big encounters where you did need to pause and plan everything out, those seemed cooler and more momentous, because it hadn't become a chore that had to do all the time.

I'll just add my 2 cents.

Yeah at first i thought only issue with tactical menu is its camera but now companion AI is far more annoying and lack of controll not to mention that exact information about AOE range is rather wonky as well.

I have tried as well nightmare + friendly fire and oh boy thats recipe for nervous breakdown. If by hard you mean that your own party members will try to wipe you then yeah it really is hard.I had to pause and manually set orders after every npc move...

Nope. They're avoiding it for some reason.

You know what happened when people said that about the ME3 endings. They never admitted anything and just sugarcoated the original endings with pictures and additional lines.

I so agree OP. It's gotten to a point where I don't even use the tactical cam unless I want to scout the field before battle. Then I'm forced to use it during battle to... once again, order a squishie to get away from Blackwall. Which never lasts long. It's gotten to a point where I barely bring Varric along anymore because he has a major habit of standing next to the tank like he can take an AOE attack. All he does is waste my potions.  I don't recall having this problem with him in DA2. He was always as far away from the thick of battle as possible. Since there are no tactics I basically just Leroy Jenkins every fight and try to pull ranged fighters away from the tank as much as possible...which I am getting tired of doing.

And I loved that advanced tactics mod. It made the AI so much smarter.

Anyone knows if the new engine actually limits the tactics potential?

Guys,

While my much loved Tactical List from DA2 is gone and while my initial gaming hours saw me and my party massacred many times over.... there is LIGHT.

Properly specced the party can survive and I don't use the TAC CAM for endless reasons.

The key is to generate BARRIER and GUARD.

Guard Guide here: GUIDE: How to Generate Guard : dragonage

Good luck

This isn't about survivability. This is about the ability to automate the party members.

And this game lacks it.

Not automate them but rely on them to not get in your way and nake things harder than they are.
In a game that focuses so much about your small team and its dynamics its mind boggling how they made them so stupid and a chore to play with.

Unless you disable their ai and pause every 2 seconds to micromanage them, (which is a nightmare no matter how much you like to take control), they will get in your way. At the very least let me position them properly! GIVE ME SOMETHING!

I actually want to automate them. All of them at once, so I don't have to control anyone.

As I've mentioned before, its the combination of the half broken and limited Tactical View with the brain dead AI and lack of Tactics customization that can make combat an absolute chore. Its incredibly frustrating.
