I actually want to automate them. All of them at once, so I don't have to control anyone.
Ahhh... you miss the tactical list of DA2...so do I....

In coclusion: you mislead your fan base and customers and your tactics menu is bad and you should feel bad. Fix this, comment on it or at least support modding so someone will do your job for you and make the tactical aspect of the game that you have been PRAISING work.
I hope at the least that they feel bad.
"You should feel bad..." blah blah blah. Sorry to say guys, they don't owe us anything. They're not even forced to apologize for anything, but coming from them, this is just silly. They should've made more videos about the new strategy system but hoped that this game would sell on the name alone, I figure. I don't think what they did was right, but I wouldn't be so upset if they didn't try to hide the elephant in the room in the first place. :\

That is called lying by omission; you understand that right? Are you under the impression that lying to sell a game is okay?
The tactical camera is one of the single most disastrous things that happened to this game. It just doesn't function as a playable feature at all. Using it is like torture. You cannot even look up/tilt upwards when you zoom out with it and there is no mouse-drag at all. Terrible.
Not to mention the a.i is horrifyingly bad and there is no way to customize it at all, a lot of the abilities have major bugs in them as well and the hold position command doesn't even freaking work. Did you know if you run a mere 20-30 feet away your entire party teleports to your location if you try scouting while in stealth with a rogue when you make them hold?
It's just bad. This game was released way too early and now they're paying the price for it.

I know what you mean but i dont want ANYONE to think this has anything to do with being too lazy or unwanting to issue commands and stuff to your party and even take control of them to make precise actions.I actually want to automate them. All of them at once, so I don't have to control anyone.

Yes this is really bad. I was trying to fight i huge dragon and everyone kept on teleporting around destroying anything i was trying to do with tactical camera, positioning completely pointless. Happens in normal fights too i switch to a character to do something and others just stop what they are doing and teleport.... not even using stealth.
The AI is indeed terrible, makes me sad. I might consider lowering the difficulty to normal and basically bypass the combat because the 'AI' is frustrating, which would be quite unfortunate since it is an important/big part of the game. Cassandra tends to stop fighting fairly often and everyone stands like a stone pillar no matter what punishment they are taking, needless to say it sucks when fighting enemies that are levels above you.
I failed beating the dragon now, will probably give it one more try at least.. I could survive no problem with Cassandra 1vs1 against the dragon, but the others die fairly easily don't listen to me sometimes and teleport themselves into death. A few relatively simple fixes should make it a lot better..
In origins it was also pretty bad(Everyone charging in the fire trap of death at the redcliff village for example, the trap we set up to help us against the undead..) but it was fine because you could do the tactics and learn to manage things quite well. Here i have gotten a little better at dealing with these things but... ehh we will see.
I find I like the characters more if I get to control them, but I would count programming their tacics as a form of control.I know what you mean but i dont want ANYONE to think this has anything to do with being too lazy or unwanting to issue commands and stuff to your party and even take control of them to make precise actions.
Even with the advanced ai mod we had to take control at hard fights, they were never fully automated to the point it took the strategic and tactical aspect away from the game, just made it more fun and less of a chore coupled with immersion even.
As it is now i find it hard to see my companions as anything but mindless drones since they feel that inapt in combat unless i fully control them and that takes away their feel of indipendent character as a unique and interesting personality. Its like.. i made not one character but 5 that i control at all time so they dont feel like they are anything different, they feel like an alt. They are basically me and im not THAT interesting.
Edit: again, to make it clear, im not saying controlling other team members makes them feel less unique, im saying that in the current state NOT taking direct control makes them as useful as mindless robots with no combat experience/knowledge making them feel like an alt character of me that would do nothing and be lifeless unless i controll it, as opposed to the unique and interesting characters that they are.

I don't really believe in that crap, sorry. I don't mean that to disrespect you.
the "you should feel bad" part was just a futurama reference, it wouldnt make the game any better if they felt bad about it, tho i wouldnt mind if the ones incharge of that aspect of the game would look at this mistake and acknowledge their mistake... god forbid comment on it or patch it. the ones who SHOULD feel bad are the press and even the youtubers who kept quiet about this. lost my respect and their credibility a bit.
I really hope they address that in the patch.
I'm all for micro management but if this is happening in every instance of the game this is game breaking.
one of the things that I liked in origins was that I could give comands when it mattered and i could also play casually my warden when I wanted to play more "actiony"
I think ppl said the same about da2 until it got patched. By that point, tho, i was way done with the game and erased it from my memories as if the game never existed.
Garbage.
This. Is. GARBAGE! Fixing something with a patch does not undo the damage done by it. If this wont get fixed soon ppl might quit.
Unfortunately, they don't really care about people quitting the game as they have already received their money from those people because they already bought the game. Since this isn't a subscription based game, the only thing that matters to the company is that the person already bought it or whether something affects future purchases of the game by other people who have not yet purchased it, who might decide not to based on a certain issue or not.
True they never said that there were any tactics at all. However the way they went on about tactical combat being important and having so many examples of the tactical camera in previews made it obvious what you were supposed to think without acutally saying it. That, in my opinion, is still a lie.

To most cpmpanies that is not ture, because they want repeat business (ie. they want you to buy other products of theirs in the future) and this destroys any chance of that. However, for EA I would say the attitude is probably right.
By the way, you can't tell specific characters only, to hold position or attack my target right ? It is only for the whole party, i am not missing it ?
I remember watching a video long ago and was thinking, "cool you can send the warrior to hold position at this choke point" etc.
And also is there a thread about the teleporting thing if you move a little away from your party ? That is indeed quite broken and bad, it may not be easy to fix though.
Edit again, only 8 skill slots is not good either, not at all. Not in this game.
Does anyone even reads these threads anyway ? ;d
AI is dumb as ****, we really need the tactics screen that was in DA:O/DA2, to stop my mages running into melee range of mobs and just swinging away while they get their face melted, to stop my tanks ignoring mobs that are attacking the squishies, to allow better synergy by telling my team WHEN to use their abilities not just in which vague order etc etc.....
Does anyone even reads these threads anyway ? ;d
they read it, sure.. they even commented on some threads but only about pc controls and bug fixes (somewhat).
i guess they will need an official statement from the devs or what ever about this issue b4 they can comment on this.

I just don't understand what you mean by not believing 'in that crap'.
I read this information(so it is possible to hold position single companions, not tried it yet though) which might prove quite useful. As i said before i was getting better at fights but the thing that seems like a serious issue is the auto teleporting to far away party member. I will have to figure out tactical cam better and such.
Well, let's be honest, it's an EA game and we were all fools for thinking it would be anything other than dumbed-down garbage. As far as I can tell EA manages to completely ruin every company the consume. I mean, this is the company voted worst company in America at least twice! That's some achievement. Hope they get a little achievement notification on all their devices each time that happens; "Congratulations, you've just been voted worst company in America again!"
This is what we end up with when EA destroys a company, and we were all just too hopeful that somehow Bioware would avoid the same death as others. But they didn't, and we ended up with a game that appeals to people who like mashing buttons and not thinking very much. Not saying that's bad, but there are a TON of other games already designed for that crowd, and not many truly great RPGs (with things like TACTICS and RPG-style combat and tactical cameras that WORK). So turning the great RPG powerhouse of Bioware into a company making "any typical action game you can think of" is just moronic on the part of EA. But, hey, that's how they win their awards (see above).
Removal of any real Tactics is, of course, completely unacceptable, and along with a the other problems are responsible for the godawful user ratings and reviews. (Obviously, like DA2, the "critic" reviews aren't to be trusted; either some sort of coercion is at work or the "critics" are all actually 13 year old boys with ADHD and calluses on their thumbs...)
Who knows, maybe the outcry will be so great that they'll take a step back and put tactics back into the game. But I doubt it...
theyre in there, its just different. its no longer a series of if>then statements, now its you deciding which abilties have higher priority than others, and how the tank behaves (either defensively or offensively). so if you want a shield mage you have his promoted attack be shielding, everything else is secondary. if you want a tank, you promote taunting, etc. etc.

That is great. Now how do I keep my ranged NPCs from running into melee range? And how do we keep the NPCs from swimming in pools of fire? Solve those and we are 1/2 way there.
Well for range not going in melee range you will have to use the hold position for now. From the link above
Varric had the High Ground passive, so you wanted him to go stand on a rock so that he could shoot down from it. You click on the rock, and Varric gets a move to point instruction. Then you click the point again to make it a hold position instruction. You don't then click on the bandit, 'cos that will change his hold position instruction to an attack instruction, and he won't climb the rock.
would gladly wait for a patch to make this feature functional and viable instead of having these work-arounds.
