Do NOT accept the Iron Bull's quest "Demands of the Qun" if you've unlocked "Sutherland and Company Missing". Or, perhaps, don't take Bull with you to the Stormy Coast. "Demands of the Qun" triggers immediately and you cannot deviate from it, and once that quest is over, you are immediately taken back to Skyhold.

It seems that if you enter the Stormy Coast and leave it without doing the "Sutherland and Company Missing" quest, you fail it.

Never heard of this quest. Is this a war table mission? Inner Circle?

It starts as a war table mission, yes.

Oh! So that's a possible second quest for that in the tree, then? I went with Leliana and not Cullen but from the text, it sounded like she 'failed' the mission, so there was no follow up. Good to know. I hate leaving people hanging like that.

Yeah I believe if the war table mission fails the quest does not continue.

I went with Cullen and he said that they had found their last location, and that the rest was for me to handle.

I thought it had stopped there as there was no notification, but I checked my journal and found a mission to find them under The Storm Coast.

You should check too.

The same thing happened to me. I had just finished the war table operations part and talked to Rat in the tavern, got the next operation, and completed it. A waypoint was supposed to have appeared on my map and also a log in my quest journal. I had also just unlocked Iron Bull's "Demands of the Qun" quest in the Storm Coast. I didn't realize completing his quest first would automatically fail the Sutherland mission...so I went to the Storm Coast with Iron Bull, which triggered his quest, and of course after completing it, the game teleported me back to Skyhold for the post-quest conversation.

I headed back to Storm Coast to complete the Sutherland quest, but could not find it in the map, nor in the journal. I checked here and found out why...Then I checked my completed quests and saw it there, with the explanation: "This quest is no longer available."  No real reason why, though...

I get that, from a story standpoint, Sutherland and his company need help, so it's sort of a limited time type thing, but the same can be said for other missions in this game, along with war table operations, that they're "limited time only," and yet you can start them whenever you want (for the most part). I really wish I'd have known about this before... I'm not sure if this is intentional or not, but it kind of sucks that I couldn't complete the quest myself. "This quest is no longer available" isn't a great explanation, either... something like "you didn't get to them in time" might have been better, if that's what BioWare was going for. I've seen the youtube video showing this quest, and I'm guessing there's not much more to it after that, except for one more war table operation, and then I guess you speak to Sutherland again, etc.

--update: I spoke to Rat, and it seems that Sutherland and the others are in fact dead, if you complete Iron Bull's quest first. So, yeah, didn't get to them in time. Or maybe, and this is more likely (and I just thought of this), it automatically fails if you do one too many other quests or operations after getting the quest to save Sutherland and the others. So in that case, my bad...and now I'm sad, lol

Talk to sutherland in tavern and get the 1st mission, choose cullen

Talk to him again and get the 2nd mission, cullen again

Talk to him and get 3rd, choose anyone

Talk to him and get 4th, choose leliana, otherwise this questline ends

Talk to him and get 5th, choose anyone

Tallk to him and get 6th, choose any

Try to talk to him and find them missing to get 7th, choose any to get his location, if you go to the coast and leave without rescuing him, he dies and it ends

After rescue 8th is unlocked, choose any... then go back and talk to them for something a tad extra

So why do you have to not do Bulls quest first? I never did the whole of this questline as I always got it after doing that mission, chose Cullen and everything seemed to end fine and dandy, Sutherland was recruited and got a boyfriend and then nothign ever came of it again.

The quest line is equal parts hidden gem/shame because it's so miss able and/or easy to screw up. I really liked the Sutherland crew. Kinda hope that we're able to see more of them in the future.

Point me to where specifically anyone says why bulls quest ends it, I've gone blind apparently.

First post mentions that if you leave Storm Coast without saving Sutherland, he dies. Bull's quest forces you back to Skyhold once you finish it, so if Sutherland is active at the same time Bull's quest kills Sutherland.
