How do the ruthless choices in this game compare to DAO or Mass Effect?

I'm not aware of any other races that they are still trying to uplift. I would assume that they would learn their lesson from the shitstorm that was the Krogan rebellions.

In ME3, we see a brief moment of a Salarian scientist research group working on a plan to uplift-- of all species-- the Yahg. After I saw that, I completely wrote off the majority of the Salarian scientific oligarchy as idiots who couldn't see far enough beyond their own need to play gods to realize the potential harm of what they were actually doing.

They deserve nothing more than to be ripped apart by one of their own experiments gone horribly awry, I think.

But seriously though, while uplifting the Krogan was stupid, it was however, done to fight the Rachni. It was the Krogans that turned the tide against the Rachni so it worked out for them in the end. The mess with the krogans was also solved with the genophage. Yeah, things got really messed up but the alternative could have been alot worse.

Yeah, you got Salarian aid but as you said, you didn't get their entire fleet. At the same time, I couldn't have known that Wrex would find out about the sabotage. We both get screwed over in a way but the difference is that I don't have to worry about a future Krogan rebellion and you don't have to worry about the Krogan's becoming an endangered species or worse. They both have their ups and downs.

In Sur'Kesh, I saw that they are now playing with the Yahg... you know, the next Shadow Broker ;) . And research reports there suggest that they considering using the Varrens as well. So experimenting is going on.

I got their 3rd Fleet through the Councillor, Captain Kirrahe and the STG. All I am missing is the 1st Fleet, which means I already have more than half of the Salarian forces. Tis a win for me.  B) You win even more if you dont shoot Mordin but convince him.

100 sovereigns in DAO is a fortune :P

Whereas 100 sovereigns in ME is a nightmare.

On the Krogan, I always thought the genophage was an awful idea because it encourages brutish behavior and mercenary work, and both of which would be pain in the ass for as long as the Krogan exist. Because wiping them out completely isn't a viable option to me (or to Mordin originally), that means curing the sterility.

Plus, at the time I figured that the Krogan were better fighters and the Salarians would help in the end when the **** really hit the fan.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Convincing Mordin requires you to kill both Wrex and Eve, which takes away a good chunk of assets. The overall difference might not be much.

Also, its one thing to study species, its another thing entirely to uplift them completely. Its a bit of a leap to say they're trying to uplift these guys. The Yahg home world is under quarantine by the council. If the Salarians tried messing with them, the council would freak out. I'm pretty sure they've banned the uplifting of species in the same way they banned AI research after the Quarians lost most of their population to the Geth. The Varren experiments were to look for possibilities of them being used as biological weapons. It has its risks but they're no where near as catastrophic as what happened with the Krogan. I never really got the sense of them trying to uplift anything. Sure, they're kinda playing with fire but there's no evidence to suggest its anything too dangerous.
