the globe like artifacts solas mentions when you go near them, what actually happens when you use them, i dont ever notice anything different and they arent related to a quest or anything

They boost his approval when he's in the party. They also add some Influence and XP.

I think so, at least I haven't found any other use for them.

Yeah I heard him mention the veil being strengthened, does that actually have any effect on anything?

That sounds kind of counter productive to what solas says they do. Strengthening the veil gets you a stronger tear???

Oh good, I've been tracking how many I have and where in the hopes that if I get most or all of them something would happen. Glad to see there's a method to my madness after all

You need to activate ten of them to access Solas's third personal quest. Incidentally, does anyone have a map/locations for them? There's one across Judicael's crossing in Emprise Du Lion but I can't find it - there's a dragon that keeps kicking my arse.

If my favorite fan theory is correct, Fen'Harel created the Veil in the first place, locking away the Elven Gods after he became disappointed with their behaviour and the murder of Mythal. This act exhausted him, and caused him to enter a deep sleep for many years.

Upon awakening, he realized sealing the Elven Gods away did not, in fact, help the Elven People. Instead, they feuded and fought each other, leaving themselves open to invasion from Tevinter. They called out to their elven gods, but the Veil kept them separate and ruined their ancient magic.

 

Solas, distraught by what his prideful decision wrought, renamed himself Solas ("Pride") and resolved to use his Foci (The orb artifact he used to create the Veil) to completely dispel the veil, and return Thedas to the state it was in before the veil; he plans on releasing the Elven Gods, to save the People.

However, he was took weak after his slumber to use the Foci himself. So, he gave it to Corypheus.. Because for whatever reason ,he trusted an ancient Tevinter Magister who also wanted to enter the Fade. The Ritual went awry, and instead of dispelling the Veil and releasing the Gods, it merely tore a fade Rift into the sky and weakened the Veil everywhere. Once again, Solas creates horrible war for the world with his decision.

Once again seeking to make things right, Solas joins the Inquisition in the hopes of retrieving his Foci and (most likely) dispelling the Veil on his own. Post game, he absorbs Mythal's essence as an immediate power boost... That way, he won't have to rely on anyone like Corypheus to use a Foci again. 

 

The point is, Solas wants to dispel the veil. I find it difficult to believe he went around strengthening it, especially since activating them provides no actual benefit, nor does it weaken any nearby fade rifts / demons.

Has anyone actually gotten the extra veil tear quest? I have more than 10 activated and the quest never triggered.

I understand that quest is bugged and doesn't trigger when it should.

In DA4 or DLC we'll find out what they really do.

Source? That sounds a bit BS to me. I'm sure I activated like 12-13 and no quest for me, moreover there isn't any. Moreover, I didn't find any mention of a specific quest after 10 orbs in the internet.

The orbs were supposed to do more but they removed the mechanic. I prefer the theory that the ancient elves created the veil. Not Fen'hrael

The quest is apparently bugged.

Oh darn it all, I don't remember how many I've found. Wish we had markers on the maps for found artefacts, mosaics, and so on. Going around to find what I missed will be quite a mission.
