Hey guys, im honestly reaching my boiling point with these rituals where you have to step on every square without stepping on one you already have stepped on.

I have the strategy guide with me and im following the path it details, but the squares just keep resetting at random, im taking it really damn slow to avoid this, but I find i step on the next square in the path im following, and bam they just all reset like that square was already lit up but it wasnt!

Anyone have this issue or have a surefire way to go through all the rituals successfully?

I had the same issue. I didn't touch any other squares then BAM! Reset! I thought maybe Bioware liked to repeat the demon basement in Orgins and have us agonize over our followers stepping in fire, but it still reset with them being outside of the board.

i didn't have any problems with my followers following me around

i think there's also a time limit for how long the squares will remain lit. i just run across them as fast as i can, using the strafe keys. i think stepping outside of the tiles where the railing is, excluding the one where you have to cross the room, also resets the puzzle

Time limit for a puzzle mini-game...I would have been screwed in Origins.

My guess, at least for PC, is in game lag or skipping. I've been having that happen during normal gameplay and I suppose that could attribute to the game thinking I hit a tile twice when I stop short of it?

OK, I have been stuck on this for the past nearly 2 hours. The goddamn puzzle just keeps reseting at random! Even when I'm standing still on a tile. This is ridiculous.

It may be connected to a slower computer as Katsuya mentions - I am playing on a laptop with 15 fps average (yeah, don't ask). But no matter how fast or slow I go, the thing always resets without any warning or provocation. I am fed up with this, really.

Is there any significant downside to jumping down the stupid cave?

You'll have to fight your way through your potential allies instead of gaining their support if you just jump down.

I'm not braindead. I know how to solve the puzzle. But either a bug or bad coding is preventing me from completing it :(

Yup followed 2 guides step by step and it seems to reset at random, tried walking, running, running slowly, stopping on every square nothing does

This is so annoying, I don't want to go down the hole just because this puzzle is bugged -.-

Google brought me here, so maybe others with the same problem will see it as well:

Try doing it with the (god awfull) tactic mode. That finally worked for me, might have been a coincidence though. You have to manually walk (because of hillarious pathing) over the gates as well as on and off the tile-area (for the lever in the south-eastern one) , but it it seems to detect that better than using the action mode or what ever it is called.

I hope it works for you guys as well, drove me nearly nuts... that chime sound ...

PLEASE could this be fixed.  No doubt it's doable and if we keep ging we will get there in the end, but a puzzle shouldn't be dependent on luck or chance and take 20 or 30 tries to solve even when you've worked out the right way around it.  This is a massive immersion breaker and incredibly frustrating.  If I wanted an annoying repetitive luck based game I would be playing Candy Crush Saga.

I'm on PS3 and had no problems running across them and making them activate.  The only time it reset was when it was suppose to, or when I accidentally went off the board where I wasn't suppose to

Have been fighting with this for about an hour now, having the same issues as everyone else. Playing on the PC and it keeps resetting at random times. I've also noticed that I can't even get my companions to hold position, each time I activate a tile, they start following me. Not sure if it is them, or some other bug, but I would really like this to be fixed asap.

Same here - had to abandon the attempt to get to the well and just jump down after Samson.  For me it was the middle puzzle and it was not thatI didn't have the solution.  I had it and the puzzle resets midway through again and again. This is with the solution from the video, run at full tilt.   If it's a timer issue, I hope they fix it or disable it.

Finally got through the two part ritual in the Western chamber. Thanks for the tip on tactical mode! Tactical mode for moving through the pattern, but had to go out of tactical to cross the divider and start the second section, then back into tactical to finish the second pattern. Tactical mode seems to cause problems with stepping down off the divider and resetting the ritual. At least it's do-able now. Now onto the tricky switch one!

It's been resetting on me too, but I think it's a timed puzzle. That out of anything appears to be more likely, especially given how fast the above poster ran through each puzzle. The above poster with the video ran the first two puzzles in roughly a minute or just over. The third, if you notice, randomly reset a few times before they got it right, usually after they've gone roughly over 2min somewhere or when they hit a tile they'd already touched. The third puzzle appears to roughly need to be completed within 2min. I haven't tested this, as unfortunately I couldn't try to complete the puzzle due to freezing every 5sec which tends to happen if I have other processes running when trying to play Inquisition. Specifically processes that use my video card like looking over a video to ensure I'm following the correct path.

If it doesn't work when I reload, I'll try the tactics option someone else suggested. However I'm not sure how well that will work regarding that I need to jump to get around the proper way, apparently.

Anyway people on PC have been able to complete this puzzle because I know people on PC who have beaten the game, so it can't be perma bugged. It might be randomly bugged for just certain people too...that seems to be a running theme with this game thus far. However I think there's something we're not taking into account, and it's not companions. They don't activate or mess with the tiles, only the controlled character does. That much I have noticed. If you control Dorian, he'll activate the tiles instead and everyone else won't, you control your character the same, etc. etc.

Granted there is the possibility that it wasn't perma bugged until the patch came out, and with the patch the bug has only gotten worse. I'll report back once I've tested it out to be certain. Now to restart my PC and pray Inquisition doesn't want to randomly freeze and crash on me....again.

EDIT: YES IT IS A TIME PUZZLE. THERE IS YOUR ANSWER. COMPLETE THE FIRST TWO UNDER A MINUTE AND A HALF AND THE THIRD UNDER TWO AND A HALF MINUTES ROUGHLY OR SO. BASICALLY FINISH THEM FAST AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT DAMN TILE.

Gods that was tense and annoying as all out, but I finished all three puzzles and only had to repeat the second one, where before I couldn't finish them at all. And that was before the game started freezing every 5secs and I was forced to google this questline to make sure I wasn't messing something up or it wasn't bugged.

So good news? Not bugged. Bad news? Timed really short and you can't make a single mistake or you're boned. Have fun trying to run through this like an insane person, try not to have a heart attack.

The first time I did these puzzles, I didn't have any issues.
When I went back to record them, I found they would randomly reset. It wasn't a timer, because it would sometimes happen after only five seconds or so. It wasn't my followers, because they wouldn't trigger the squares.
As best as I can tell its due to framerate. Recording the puzzle drastically reduced framrate and made the game laggy. When I tried doing it again without recording, and thus had a much higher framerate, I was able to complete it a lot easier.

On the Eastern Ritual with the gates, you need to be careful of your path in tactical mode. Highly recommend pausing between each move to point command as there are a couple of spots where the path will wind around weirdly causing you to recross squares. ugh. Finally made by switching to active where the path wasn't right and then back into tactical. I don't think it's timed, and fortunately companions don't seem to trigger squares as in this particular puzzle the hold command kept switching off.

It could be due to lagging. I could certainly use a GPU upgrade. Mine manages acceptably most of the time, but there are times when it struggles to keep up. At least using tactical seems to get around most of the problem. The first small puzzle in the temple had no issues.

There are rules to this puzzle

  1. There is a time limit to the puzzle.  The length is not known by myself but it seems like it resets faster if you stand still or get off the puzzle for long periods of time.
  2. Stepping on a lit piece will reset the puzzle.  Backtracking will reset it.
  3. You may step off the puzzle and step back onto a dark piece without penalty.
  4. You cannot step off the puzzle and step back on a lit piece. Progress will be reset.
  5. Jumping over lit pieces will not work and reset your progress.

So long as you follow these rules the puzzle loses some of its difficulty.

Personlly this wasnt too bad.  But then again im the one person who loved the lightsout puzzle EA put in Balmorra.

I can confirm that THIS solution works. Thanks!

As you said, it  seems to have some problems with the lever area where you have to just walk in action mode. For everything else I moved using the tactical mode and it never reset.

It has nothing to do with time limit, so please stop saying that people, it's just a bug. It may not happen to everyone else but the ones that have the problem are doing it right. Bioware is doing it wrong -.-
I'm tired of getting bugs that don't let me enjoy the game. Bioware, please, the game is awesome but I'm regretting a bit having paid for the game...

Just wanted to add that I'm having this same issue. Would like to complete them, but not having much luck. I'll try the tactical mode and edit/add to this.
