@yukomisima Huh theres no time limit. So long as dun step on a square twice its possible. My only bug was that bull n the rest followed me and stepped wrongly ahhh! For my 1st play thru i chose to jump and skip this entirely. On console if face probs exit and come back again. Like if u have done 1 puzzle it does save so wun need to go back again.

Agreed, hate the gates one. Its a copy of tomb raider. However skyrim is much harder always die lol.

Companions following you around don't have any effect, as long as you don't switch to control them and they don't bump you onto a wrong tile. They always end up following me, even if I've obsessively mashed the Hold key a million times, but it doesn't mess up the puzzle.

Nah, it's only bad hardware that causes the bug. I have no idea why, though -- what could possibly be going on under the hood that makes the graphics relevant to the position of the PC?

Sorry for bumping this up again but I need to complain, once again, about this god damn bug. With my other 4 playthroughs I had minor difficulties going through them with tactical cam on but right now IT'S IMPOSSIBLE. It keeps resetting after the first 1 to 10 titles. Oh my god why didn't they fix this I can do these puzzles with my eyes closed probably

It's the revenge of the console players - Bwa-ha-ha! (Never had an issue on the 360, only on my PC. It has to be blood magic, don't you think?)

Unreadable. Such spelling. Much grammar. Very mistakes. Wow.

For me, jumping from one tile to the next instead of running works. It never resets when I do that.

To collect what has helped me today in one place, I have listed my observations and solutions below. If you'd like a video to show my use of these methods, I will attempt to compile one if requested and I still have the game installed. :)

1. This puzzle is not time-based. At all.

Evidence: I sat on a glowing tile the entire time I have been researching how to bypass this bug. I have a video of me sitting there for a good ten minutes without the puzzle changing, and then even longer when I checked my email. It did not reset until I continued the game and walked in a straight line: On the fourth tile, it reset without reason.

2. Things that may cause the puzzles to reset: Low frame-rate, above minimum graphics, background programs, companions bumping into you, and the ill will of demons.

Evidence: I cannot trigger all of these on my own (because most demons love me, of course) but all have occurred during my exploits today. Most (excluding the removal of background programs) were caught on camera.

3. Several methods can help prevent resets or the Hold command bug:

a) Switching to tactical view can make it easier to stop companion collisions and low frame-rate issues. It is worked for me on one puzzle, but did not work for the next two.

Problem: Wonky redirections screwed up the puzzle multiple times, and I got stuck on an invisible wall during a puzzle. Spinning my camera angle appeared to reset the puzzle once or twice but was not consistent.

B) Jumping between the tiles can help. You must jump directly between each tile and NOT go over even the slightest corner of a neighboring tile, or it will also activate and mess up your puzzle. This worked for my first puzzle.

Biggest problem: Companions love running directly in front of where you're going to jump. And then stand there. And then reset the puzzle when they touch you.

c) Moving slowly can give the puzzle time to register precisely where you are stepping, preventing it from skipping a tile you have previously run over. Running quickly, however, also assists in not having the puzzle double register your presence on the same tile.

Basically... you're kind of screwed if you're experiencing both sides of the issue with this method. Try other options instead.

d) Control any mage character in your group (because it sets you up for the next method below). Use a basic attack: Then (while all other companions are off the puzzle) hit Hold.

This method may or may not work for you, but it worked for me during both of my successful attempts at the last two puzzles. This was the only way I was able to use the Hold command successfully.

e) While still controlling a mage, attempt the puzzle while constantly resetting attack mode. Pause on a single tile while resetting for the best results. I agree that a mage will give you the longest amount of time to run, but I do not have an archer to test this out on. Before stepping on a single tile, use a basic attack. Run across up to four tiles (if you're feeling bold; I recommend less) and then use another basic attack. Repeat until the puzzle is complete.

Thank you very much to everyone who has offered information to solve the bug. Much of this I was able to discover on my own, but it was good to hear that I was not alone in this. Lone's post about continually resetting attack mode was especially helpful: I had discovered that attack mode worked but hadn't tried a dedicated route through using it every few steps until it was suggested.
