Just to confirm, are there only 3 strongholds, other than Skyhold, and can they be customized?

Please no story spoilers. Thanks.

I don't know how many there are, but I wasn't able to customize them at all. It's basically: put down flag now you have stronghold.

So what do they actually do? Far as I can see they are little more than camps with extended facilities and perhaps unlock a quest or 2.

That's all that I found them to do. I believe it was said at one point that they would be custom and you could choose if it would become a trade route or military thing, but I guess that was scrapped.

Well! Given that customizing those keeps along those particular lines was a featured discussion point in one of their prerelease videos for the game, not clarifying that this had been dropped seems like a huge gaffe on their part?

There are only three.  Once taken they are pre-established to be a foothold for Cullen, Leliana or Josephine.  You do not have customization options.  The good news is that they have all the trimmings of the Undercroft with a vendor nearby (without having to load :P).

It appears that the early pre-alpha concept of choosing how to build up the fortresses was redacted.

If you stick only to the main story line only and don't explore the optional open wilderness areas; you will only have entered the maps for two of them.  If you never deviate from the main story plot you will only have probably taken one of them because you walk past the front door.  The other still takes some exploring of that particular map.

110 hours into my first play through and just did Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts a few hours ago. :P

That is indeed, kind of saddening. I haven't even come close to one, that I know of yet. I'm not even at Skyhold but I was looking forward to having custom strongholds.

Not to mention the whole "40 endings" claim that was made but I am pretty sure most people already figured the devs were speaking out their arses as soon as the claim was made. Still why make such claims especially after the backlash that was received from the ME3 ending?

One of my biggest dissapointments with the game is that they last minute changed the whole keep thing. I mean the video of "Crestwood Under Attack" was one of the best parts of the before release footage they showed and its not even in the game.

Sadly could be future DLC.

If you look at 13:29 there's also places named Frostback Pass, Nashashin Marshes, and The Southern Desolation and we don't have those zones.  They could have renamed a few places but meh.  We have Crestwood, but not Crestwood Hills so that could eventually be an offshoot added by DLC or who knows.  Does seems like a waste of a large zone to not use in some way (especially since they claimed it was larger than all of DA:2 :P).  Then again that's all pre-alpha so who knows.

I don't mind DLC when it's something added later but if it's something cut out with the intention of adding later I sidefrown loudly.

Yeah, I'm worried though it isn't planned DLC (which as you stated could be worse, considering it would mean they removed content for that purpose) and they just thought it would be too complicated for most to have to deal with a war table in which agents were a resource and where your keeps could be attacked. It could also explain why power became so meaningless.

While it might be a valid point they didn't want people to have to grind for power. for those that actually did there should be something to do with it. (I finished the game with an extra 317 power) Same thing with the shards, you collect them you gain a reward for doing so. Honestly it should have been used as a resource for other things like: have too much power trade it for gold, influence. Use it to speed up the war table stuff (even though you can change the system clock to trick the game), use it to gain approval from your companions if you screw something up. Or use it to give more time during enemy attacks to your base like the Crestwood Under Attack kind of events.

I was also wondering about these keeps. I have captured one, but i found no customisation option. Its not like im THAT let down about it, given skyhold. But i find this decision interesting.

I just find it weird as it was one of the things that was praised for spreading your influence.

Fladnag (can't quote with my phone) 40 endings didn't came from BioWare, it came from one of the preview article and Mark Darrah quickly corrected it that there's two endings + little variations inside of them.

I'm little disappointed that keep customization was cut. Also was looking like crazy for that Crestwood quest from demo. Wonder why they changed it. I also remember there was "you need 5 agents to complete this operation" in demo and it's not in the final game.

No the 40 endings came from Cameron Lee's twitter, I think Mark even claimed 40 major variations and a few totally unique endings but as for your claim of two endings I only count one.

Oh yeah, sorry. My brain doesn't work properly due to lack of sleep. So I might be completely wrong on this, but I think Darrah said 40 minor variations. I stop now :D

Edit: Forget what I said, found the quote. Only few different endings, most endings are just major variations of your choises in the game. Haven't seen ending yet myself, so I can't argue about this until I do my second completely opposite playtrough.
