In future titles, consider adding some unique animations for female characters.

I remember both femshep fem inquisitor sitting down with legs apart.  It was especially jarring when femwas wearing a dress.  What woman sits down with thier legs apart when wearing a dress, especially if the dress only goes to your knees?   You can see right up her skirt!!!

I know women who sit like that, but they are def in the minority and even they dont sit like that when wearing a dress.

What if I want my character to be feminine?

Since gender is purely a social construct, that means vastly different things to different people.

Over the last several months, there have been several threads discussing the walk / run animations used for female characters, and even asking for a toggle. The general consensus has been that gender neutral gaits in both live action and cutscenes would be the simplest solution.

I can't imagine Bioware expending the resources to create 3 distinct sets of animations. If they support only 2 ("feminine" and "masculine"), they would likely be exaggerated, perhaps even more than they are now, and still not satisfactory to a lot of people who would really prefer something more neutral. You also need to sync the live action animations with what is used in cutscenes - another huge body of work if you are dealing with multiple genderized animations.

If neutral means anything except the current cutscene walk Im ok with that. Also, "you also need to sync the live action animations with what is used in cutscenes" well it seems they DID NOT NEED to do it in DA:I because the live action walk animation is 100% different.

I wont even start with the gender is a social construct argument.

I agree in general about the cutscene animations (slouchy and bowlegged for almost all the females including Josephine who...I just don't think so) but I also loathe the perched little bird idle animations females already have with elbows bent in and feet almost together. My fem inquisitor doesn't have time for that ****. She would (if she could) stand with her feet a reasonable distance apart and her arms relaxed at her sides.

The genderized female animation used for live action did not have a counterpart in the cutscenes, which I believe is the basis of your initial complaint.

Gender neutral animations would look equally appropriate on male or female characters. It would be a lot cheaper and easier to do them across the board, which is why I champion it as a solution. (well, that and the fact that I would prefer them to the current female animation).

I think one for each gender is better.  As I said, I do not see a woman in a ball gown sitting the same way as a football player in a locker room.    In addition people sit and walk different ways.

Jospehine is an ambassador, people will judge her and by extension the inquisition based on her looks and poise.  Given her experience it should be subconcsious at the point.  I cannot see a female ambassador of any country walking in the room wearing a dress and then slouch down in a chair wiht her legs apart.  She would be an embarassment to herself and her country.

On the other hand sera was born and raised in the streets, so this is exactly what I would expect from her.  If she were to enter a room in a dress and sit down with her legs corssed and hands on her knees I would be thinking that there is something wrong here.

Personally I think they should put the resources into making it feel more natural for every character, inlcuding the inquisitor.

'Gender neutral gait' is very... odd to think of, since the reason our gaits are gendered at all is due to the fact that males and females have different centers of balance/gravity, which will always lead to different gaits. You would have to somehow blend masculine and feminine gravity centers to get gender neutral, and it would still 'feel off' for some people (because the gravity would be off and a part of our brain often notices that), but I think it would still be better than what they have right now. However, even if they didn't go so far as to blend all animations but were to simply 'tone down' some aspects of the gait and stance, it would be a vast improvement.

Perhaps if they were to do that, it wouldn't scream 'these animations do not fit'!!!  quite so loudly whenever my character moves. Her gait is wrong, her stance is wrong, she's got osteoporosis, and even some kind of shoulder/arm deformity on top of it all.

This is agreed. My girlfriend who plays a female Qunari as her Inquisitor finds it jarring to go from a female feminine walk to a butch walk that reflects a man. We hope for a resolution and a fix to this.

Also this happened to Female Hawke in Dragon Age 2 during cutscenes. It's really weird that would just do that.

Indeed, they do - and not all women sit and walk the same way. Ditto men.

But if you replaced such animations with gender neutral ones, it shouldn't be a problem for characters of either sex.

Someone has to decide what that looks like - and the current interpretation of a female walk has elicited a great deal of controversy, to say the least.

Did you think theyre animations from ME or is that just me? I remember seeing that legs wide open sitting style and manly walk on my femshep for sure. (It doesnt bother me as much in ME tbh because my character is a bit butch and shes been a soldier all her life etc, although it was a bit jarring at first in ME as well)

Many of the animations look recycled. I'm pretty sure I've seen some of these in SWTOR as well.

Is it just me, or does Cassandra Allegra Portia Filomena Petaghast look like a Bishonen?
