Is that fairly early on in the game?

Perhaps after you decided between the Templars and the Mages about who to recruit to help seal the Breach?

 

Though I suppose he could bring it up again sometime later and, in that case, I don't know specifically. But I have found that he does do a lot of 'talking out loud,' especially where lyrium is involved. But in the case I'm referring to, he doesn't actually want or need your help with that

He talks about what's his name templar buddy a bit, and it was prompted with an exclamation point on the map for him.
