It's a bug and the only way to solve it is to restart. You need to select between male and female before you choose to avoid this.

That's about as clear as mud ORTesc.  I was lucky enough not to get caught in this, but I still have no idea how I avoided it.

To be fair, you didn't get the hint something was wrong within a first few minutes of the game calling your guy a girl?

I would cut your losses and restart. You might be waiting a while for it to be patched.

the patch could possibly take longer than it would take for you to restart and get to the same point.
