Bumping this for great justice. FIX THE GOD DAMN VOICE BUG.

I've officially been blocked for a week. If no update tomorrow I'm just gonna roll with the default. Thanks bioware. $70 and a pivotally awesome moment ruined. Still.

There could at least be a sticky about using the default voices for now.

Yes I'm mad. I'm tired of side quests.

I dropped 200 bucks for the super duper plastic edition :(

Nothing like paying for a game you really really want to play, but can't.

Most likely we will have to wait for Tuesdays, since consoles update on those days...even though I am on the PC and bioware can send out the patch at anytime...nope...gotta wait for the Tuesday.

I do wonder what the hell were they doing that extra month.

Judging from Twitter, they were eating cakes and cookies that the Cullenites sent them.

People nowadays need to get a grip.

Games are software...incredibly complex software. A game of DAis scope takes years to make.
Sometimes bugs slip through..even big ones. Do you really think time solves all bugs without proper testing. Do you know how expensive testing is?

Even the most well designed and tested systems can fail. Just ask Antares.

Its proper business sense to release a game with a few bugs rather than try to find and solve them all. Game companies would go broke.

Unless of course you want them to return to the complexity of Mario Kart.

Yeah, this.

I am OK with bugs on release.  The day may come when games are free of bugs at release on all platforms, but it is not this day.  At the moment, bugs are a fact of life with gaming.  Hell, I'm pretty sure there are still bugs in DA:O.  I don't have the game yet (waiting calmly and patiently for first patch) but the only thing I consider to be 'unforgiveable' is not actually a bug.  The keyboard/mouse users not being able to bind a walk key when every other player can.  Such a small thing, but it speaks volumes about where my playing experience ranks with developers.  The platform I chose can walk (with controllers) but the way I choose to use that platform cannot.  Mind boggling.

I would just like to say, as a developer for financial software, bugs are tricky beasts that can hide very well. You test and test and test and test over multiple systems and configurations by the book with huge QA teams and still there are silly situations that can't be picked up until they slip into the live environment. You can have the most competent testing team in the world but there will be situations where it's beyond their control to catch them. They are working hard to fix the issues.

Fixing a bunch of bugs that you don't have to deal with because they've been...you know...fixed.

I get that they're fixing bugs. And I know I sound selfish. It's just incredibly frustrating to have something I enjoy so much only to be roadblocked by a 100% unavoidable, zero workaround situation where my Inquisitor goes from bad ass authoritative figure I've grown to enjoy immensely, to a completely new person who's voice I've never heard until right that second.

It's like Femshep's voice turning into Manshep after turning in a quest without warning. It's so jarring. Not to mention the only way I can progress the story at this point and unlock new game mechanics is deal with this bug and make a decision that in either case will destroy immersion. In a - you know - roleplaying game. This is disappointing and surprising. I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't.

It's not a 4% of users either. The bug will 100% happen if you're using a non-default race's voice, regardless of platform.

I've rerolled right now in the interim. And I have hope BioWare will give us some kind of news by the end of the week. However, it's worth noting this bug was reported in the early review copies. So it's been quite some time that they've been aware.

Even if they came out with a PC console command workaround, that'd be uber.

I thought that only happened with a custom, er, You Know. Can't you just take the default and carry on?

I can. I just really loved that 'er' thing and the way it looked. I spent a lot of time getting it to look right.

The default is a thing I've never seen before yet it's pretending to be the thing I knew. It's not mine and I don't want it.  :?

Legit advice from a legit user! That's rare these days..

I've no doubt they're doing their best. Here's to hoping the patch comes out before the haters destroy everything..

I'm another one in the software industry, and wanna put in my 2 cents. No software is bug free, ever. There will always be bugs. Fixing bugs will create bugs. Perfection is a myth. Yeah ok, you might use a bit of software and never encounter a bug, but that's an illusion. Just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean it's not there and nobody else has seen it. And that works vice versa. Just because you DO see it, doesn't mean it's bad software.

Also, someone mentioned that because they are in the software industry they are qualified to say that business standards dictate that a software company must publicly announce any and all identified bugs.

I've never heard such nonsense in my life.

Do not bring up Mario kart 8, the game do NOT have ANY game BREAKING bugs or majors bugs that make your console crash.

So stop be a blinded fool and search exuses for Bioware, they DON'T NEED IT, they're PROFESSIONALS.

If they mess up, they should just say sorry and patching up the game and that's what they're doing.

Trying to silence the fans like you're doing who take the time to reports bugs WON'T help the dev getting better.

Yes, fans could use more kind words but at the same their rage mean they were waiting for Bioware to deliver them a cool game.

So yes, behind anger from fans there is also love and respect.

OTHERWISE no one will buy their game or come here on their forums to complain.

Go ask indies dev who desperatly waiting for people to help them by getting feedbacks before spourting nonsense and defending blindlessly Bioware.

Bioware is lucky to have so much people wanting to play their game.

It's the choice of Bioware to choose how they want to threat their customers.

It's not the customers role to make that choice for them instead we shall only wish the best of the game so it can become better and that Bioware hear our voice and not ignore us.

Well, I'm another another one in the software industry, and none of the things you said excuses those flaws in DAI which are due to sloppiness, thoughtlessness and ignoring decades' worth of insights into software usability and game design.

The interaction between complex software systems (hardware, driver, DX/OpenGL, game engine) that are in different hands is bound to be tricky and prone to unforeseeable problems; gamers tend to understand that, I think.

Then there's honest mistakes. Sh*t happens.

And then there's a supposed Mercedes that is rickety, clunky and shoddy like a beat-up 2CV. That's inexcusable. I'm referring to the 'form over function' PC interface where usability doesn't even seem to have been on the radar (let alone a priority), just to avoid any misunderstanding. And things like AI toons doing more damage to their own party than the enemy does.

It just so happens that I cannot afford any bugs in my software, at least none that affect its accuracy; it is a matter of design, processes and priorities.

I don't know where you work, but if you are responsible to customers, you release a known issues list after every release.

Are keyboard and mouse users really stuck to just running?

No walk and jog like with a controller? Doesn't this make movement clunky?

Any hopes of addressing this? Or are people expected to just stick with controllers?

How would you feel if they changed your shep's face in ME3 and say "LOL DEAL WITH IT YOU CAN STILL PLAY THE GAME".

One of the best things about Bioware is that they have a CC...without it I might as well be playing that boring Witcher game...

Having a CC makes it MY game.

Of course Mario Kart had little bugs. It was a ridiculously simple game to program (by today's standards). That was the point :)

My CMS Game Design team made an Atari size game in 10 days and it was almost bug-free.

You imply that BioWare has not acknowledged the problems and are not working diligently to solve them.

Must they get on one knee and beg for our forgiveness or something?

Frankly the entitled attitude is hilarious. BioWare shouldn't have to put up with people's bullshit, but they do because its a company after all.

They're not "lucky" for being successful. They earned their reputation, good or ill, through long years of blood sweat and tears. The way some people ****** about their "failures", you'd think they're half-assing everything.

It's frankly insulting. Pretty sure some people would get slapped in the face for saying what they've said here in person.

Don't bring "love and respect" into this. If you did "love and respect" BioWare you'd give them the benefit of the doubt and be patient as they try to resolve the problem, not spam threads with "consumer rights" every time you have a complaint.

Refund the game and wait for a patch if you're that sensitive.

They're already doing what they can. If they didn't hear our feedback, they wouldn't bother to begin with.

Ugh...

So... that's a "yes" then?

P.S. I just asked if the bug still hit with the default, there was no capspam, no lolling, no "deal with it", nothing like that at all.  You should seriously consider switching to decaf.

The way you worded your response made it seem like you were suggesting they changed from custom to default and moved on. It's the solution those affected with the bug (myself included) have been hearing over and over for the past few days while we remain stuck, hence the frustration.

But in response to your question, yes, that seems to be the only workaround at the moment, which is no solution at all if you're here for the roleplaying experience. I for one can't wait for this issue to be fixed while I'm stuck making alts and doing side quests. Let's hope we hear some news soon.

I gave up waiting on a patch. I've made a save file and wrote it down in my notebook so I can jump back should a patch hit by the weekend (which it won't), it'll likely be a Tuesday in some future.

To the guy who said it's like having your shepard's face swap, yup, pretty much! It's jarring in cutscenes now but at least my Quiz still has her proper voice.

I love BioWare games. I've played everything on release. This is the first time I've been this disappointed by a bug that's been allowed to fester with multiple reports across platforms that it always occurs. Total immersion killer, but I want to progress the story so I'll do my best to ignore the blatant visual discrepancy. If it's not fixed in the first patch though, whenever that finally comes, that's gonna sting.

Oh well.

Yeah, yeah, bugs are going to happen. No one's stupid enough to not realise that. But a 100% replicable bug on the crit path that changes a fundamental aspect of the player character? Not really understanding how that could be missed. But maybe that's just my bitterness showing.

Testers don't often run a full playthrough as testing is usually modular.

Console commands are used to jump to the target time and location.

Furthermore, it's not unreasonable to believe that those who tested the frame before and after

Spoiler
never changed the default voice set of the character they played.

So even though it's an unfortunate oversight, it's not completely illogical that this bug was missed.

Perhaps it was even detected, but too late to be fixed. Perhaps there were even more gamebreaking bugs that took priority.

This bug kills immersion I agree, but it is not exactly a red alert either.

I cant believe people are demanding fixes for incorrect voices!

Focuses should be on fixes for people who have to re load the game several times before they even get in. IF they can even get in.

Get people in the game THEN worry about the cosmetics.
