I've completed the 3 missions for the Tower, Garden and Courtyard upgrades. (I selected Mage Towers, Infermey Courtyard and I forget what for the gardens - so the quests completed)

Nothing changed though, so I just continued to do other things, thinking it would happen over time.

Its been a couple of days now; I'm level 19, with "What Pride Had Wrought" as the only major campaign left in the War Room. Still no visible changes to the garden or courtyard.

Does anyone know if there's some other pre-requisites such as some of the side quests?

The change should be imediate(but its is relativly minor changes in reality, like few added plant pots in garden etc). Skyhold itself get fixed up as you progres trough story i am not finished jet with story but there has been major visual changes to the keep iteself.(there are however still plenty of non repaired things left as well, so not sure if its even possibile to get it fully fixed up since i am relativly close to finishing the game already)

Uhm, the Garden upgrade (there's a little thingy at the center like when you set up camp)...pretty much just adds either pots (alchemy) or gold (chantry -- but they said this is bugged)

The tower is right above Cassandra, a little to the right.

The courtyard upgrade thing-y should be at the main staircase going inside the castle. The infirmary, for me, opened right beside the quartermaster's building. Unsure where teh sparring grounds would be

Yeah, I have a similar issue. After I craft the item, I am not prompted for anything (so I cannot pick between the towers, for instance), only the quest completes. Skyhold is still a total ruin, even though I'm quite a ways into the story. I've completed the Emerald Graves, the Exalted Plains, the Forbidden Oasis and Emprise du Lion.

So after crafting the item at the quaratermaster's table you don't see one of those sextant like devices on the landing as you run up the stairs to enter skyhold keep proper? I had this show up when I made my infirmary. This device also showed up in the garden area for me when I completed my first garden upgrade. It was pretty much sitting in the middle of the garden area where Mother Giselle walks around.

It doesn't change immediately, you have to find the interaction (looks like camp set-up) that gives you the choice between options.

Huh. Nope, but reentering the are a couple of times somehow solved it. I just gave up after the first attempt.

Same here, upgraded courtyard and tower, selected my choice for both, and now, after two major quests, it's still the same. I have a feeling it's bugged.

I also upgraded the courtyard to an infirmary but there has been no change. The sextant appeared and I chose infirmary, but the sick and wounded are still lying on the ground next to the tents. The inquisitor even says something like "A place to heal people - what could be more important?" when he goes near it for the first time, but there is nothing new there.

The infirmary is in the room next to where your requisitions officer is ...near where Cassandra is practicing on the dummy and your quick travel is.

I found my infirmary, finally.. But the old one still exists? I have an infirmary indoors but there are still soldiers dying in my courtyard. Not so cool. Not sure if it is deliberate. Any thoughts?

Can anyone confirm that the changes are just minor, because it really doesn't look very different otherwise!!

I noticed some changes as I went through the major quests but I bought some drapes and windows at Val Royeux and they didnt show up in my choices for upgrades - feeling somewhat confused....

Hey guys, I too had a hard time figuring out WHERE my upgrades could be found, once chosen.  So after following people's tips, I located the ones I picked and took pictures for your benefit, so you can see where they are and what they look like.

I selected:

  • The Herb Gardens, which are located in the regular garden area and hence I didn't think people needed pictures to find those.
  • The Infirmary, which is located right next to the Requisitions Building (By Cassandra).  The pics for it are on the left, under the overall map pic.  It's not very big, and consists mostly of cots and blankets.  It seems to somehow coexist at the same time as the wounded camp you have in the lower courtyard.  Odd, I know.  I suspect that's just a bug.
  • The Mage Tower, which took me awhile to figure out where to find.  It's on the upper walls, the top-center of the north ramparts.  The pictures on the right of my posted map are all of the Mage Tower.  I suspect the location will be the same for the Templar Tower.  The interior is warm and cheery, with lots of worktables and magey stuff.  It's three levels tall with a 4th level upper rampart deck.

Hopefully these pics help, and I think they will give a better idea of what you can expect if you choose these upgrades.  Good luck to you guys on your Skyhold!  :)

Is anyone else annoyed at how dank and dark the infirmary is?

Whenever I talk to Surgeon I feel terrified for those poor, poor wounded.

I'm still getting the wounded lying in the tents as well with the infirmary upgrade. I'd really like to see this fixed!

One of the dumb things I have noticed as far as "Upgrading" skyhold is those dumb notes on the large wooden preconstruction things. You HAVE to read them so they will be built like a catwalk or whatever.

You get the upgrade quest in you own chamber/bedroom upstairs.
You collect the materials and craft the items at the quatermaster (room next to cassandra).
You look for the tripods:
1. On the battlement near the spot where you meet Hawke
2. On the stairs to the main hall
3. In the garden

You chose what you'd like, and that's it.

It's not major changes at all. Just very small adjustments. I'd say the decor does a lot more when it is accessible.

Maybe this helps, these are the changes you should see. Inside the tower also changes when you upgrade it.

One of the dumb things I have noticed as far as "Upgrading" skyhold is those dumb notes on the large wooden preconstruction things. You HAVE to read them so they will be built like a catwalk or whatever.

"Construction Notes" have nothing to do with upgrading Skyhold. You read them for Codex entries, which grants you XP. My first playthrough, I didn't realize they were there and still managed to finish the game with Skyhold as upgraded as it ever gets.

Visually, Skyhold changes based on which quests you've completed. After you use the world map to travel somewhere once, the wreckage gets cleared from the main hall and the holes in the roof get fixed. After you complete the next major quest, Here Lies the Abyss or Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, the scaffolding in the main hall goes away and tables move in. The stone rubble spilling across the lower courtyard gets cleared away (but the puddles remain). Once you've completed whichever you didn't do first, you get carpeting in the main hall, you are able to select a decor, and the scaffolding in Viv's balcony goes away. The last of the scaffolding is cleared from the stable area. The guest rooms off Viv's balcony are now accessible (I've got some great screenshots of Cassandra and my avatar taking a romantic stroll through the scaffolding...). The main hall is as full as it's going to get. There's always food on the tables, but you never see anyone sitting at them. I feel sorry for Skyhold's catering staff. The scaffolding in your quarters (and the Red Templar banner) never go away. You'd think the inquisitor would be able to order somebody to go up there with a broom.

I headcanon that the inquisitor mourns all the Inquisition soldiers who die because they never got moved to the infirmary, and that's why all the mirrors are covered, even after the end of the game.
