DA:I's story has more drama, greater psychological depth than pc being a Bhaalspawn and a revenge-driven mage (Irenicus) wanting to take your power, also, Corypheus is a far better antagonist than Irenicus ever was.
The Hinterlands is far more enjoyable to explore than Athkatla in BG2, the residents of Hinterlands has better character and depth than the citizens of Athkatla in BG2
Companions in DA:I are far more interesting than in BG2, Cassandra > Jaheira, Iron Bull > Minsc, Varric > Korgan, Dorian > Haer'Dalis, Sera > Viconia, basically the entirecast of DA:I is infinitely superior to BG2's
Dragon Age: Inquisition is officially the greatest masterpiece Bioware has done, surpassing Baldur's Gate 2

What exactly do you mean? If you think I'm jesting then you're mistaken. Besides the excessively dragging and boring first dungeon, what other quests did Athkatla have? a ghost kid looking for his stuffed toy, that nonsensical All Seeing Eye Cult, Carnival Illusion World where you get Aerie, etc. and these quests are not related to the main scenario, it's just a way of getting coin to get to Imoen, unlike in DA:I wherein the side quests are all related to the main plot of increasing the power and influence of the Inquisition.

*throws confetti* Opinions~!
Seriously though, I can see why you feel that why and why others might blatantly disagree. For me it's not so much a matter of which is better, so much as it is that I enjoy them both equally and will be playing them for years to come. I'm still waiting for several new mods to release for BG2.

Similarly, I've recommended older games that I really like to friends, only to have them "not get it".
So, yeah, I agree with OP.

I think it could do with a bit of tweaking on the 360, but overall this is a brilliant game.
Maybe it does surpass the old warhorse, but I'd need to play that through again to check

Graphically yes, DAI has a beautiful world on ultra settings, on my PC... in every other department: companion interactions, class and/or combat skills, loot variety, romances and story it is laughably not imo (ignoring technology advances). Companion interactions are almost totally kept to the main camp and do not feel organic, or feel way to superficial and forced for me... the companions system feels more like a fast food restaurant or even stamp collecting... it is not even close to BG2's companions or system (DA:O came very close, but way to much lets go to camp to talk). BG2 companion system had far more going for it, it made the world more alive, and didn't use the repetitive party banter of DA:I. I have replayed BG/BG2 many many times over the years (BG2 earlier this year along with DA:O). I do not see myself unfortunately playing DA:I past its first year of release... it is a good game, but it is not a game that is genera defining or one that feels epically compelling (the combat system does not help its cause) . BG2 had true consequence for your actions, reflected in companion and romance out comes, class and race choices and your actions (no stamp collecting lets return to home base here). For class variety omg, BG series absolutely kills this shallow system, imo. For now I'm going to try and enjoy the game for what it is, and that is not another BG2 or KOTOR super classic, unless there is some seriously super dlc in the works. I do however love poking around this beautiful world the art team has created (even though that is more of a tech comparison)

I really wouldn't know because...DA:I's story has more drama, greater psychological depth than pc being a Bhaalspawn
It's taken me to 25h to complete the Hinterlands (including the battle for haven) - so far, my impression is that Bioware is copying everything that's popular like large open maps from Skyrim, boring grind quests from WoW and characters singing for no reason fromThe Hinterlands is far more enjoyable to explore than Athkatla in BG2, the residents of Hinterlands has better character and depth than the citizens of Athkatla in BG2
And sorry, but a massive area with 90% boring "fetch 20 bear asses" quests isn't "better" than Athkatla.
Finally, before you call it a masterpiece, you should maybe try making it at least as good as Origins - Frostbyte is pretty, but not really necessary and doesn't add all that much; however, the downside is that the game doesn't handle all that well - targeting rifts is very hit and miss (you have to eyeball if you are close enough), positioning the camera to let you target the rifts at all can be incredibly difficult, tactical camera tends to be half an inch above the heads if you are indoors (I.e. It's useless in dungeons because they don't hide the ceiling), attacks can be incredibly temperamental (I had my rogue dance around for 5s because he couldn't get into position to use twin fangs during the tutorial).
It's by no means bad, and it is great fun and also looks great but it doesn't quite work as well Origins

No its not.
DAI =/= BG2
Both are different games, both are made in different times, both are made to cater to different audiences and both are made by a different Bioware.

So true. I feel weird about the fact somebody actually compared these two games. And while I think DAI is a very good game, nothing beats BG and BG II. And the argument about those games being old and appealing to us because of sentiment : I finished BG and BG2 like 15 times altogether, and I'm not talking about some ancient times
Companions in DA:I are far more interesting than in BG2, Cassandra > Jaheira, Iron Bull > Minsc, Varric > Korgan, Dorian > Haer'Dalis, Sera > Viconia
You have got to be kidding me. And I'd like to emphasise once again, I like DAI a lot. I just don't agree with your opinion. The exploration aspect is also different, Hinterlands better than Athkatla? Not to me.

You are a brave soul to say such a thing my friend. ![]()
I think of it as the best game I've played since Baldur's Gate II (Morrowind being a close second).
I love both a great deal. I think Dragon Age Inquisition, as far as I have seen, is a amazing game and find myself lost in it every time I enter Thedas.
But they are not the same, but both are quality games I believe.
(Baldur's Gate I will remain my favourite though, because of sentimental reasons. And Xzar....)

I loved all the BG games, but DA:I has a lot of heart to it in my opinion (and I don't just mean the romances). It's a more fully realized and immersive world than any I've been in to date, and I loved my companions to bits. Best RPG I've played in a while even with the control issues and bugs - certainly trumps Skyrim and Wasteland 2 in terms of how much I enjoyed it (speaking of Wasteland 2, I quite enjoyed it, but I had zero attachment to anyone or anything in the game; plenty to do, though, and I had a lot of fun with the old-school combat and the setting).

I would have to disagree. That said, DA:I is the closest game BW has ever made that captures the overall spirit of the BG franchise.
