I always hated the Chantry. The false bigotry, the sheepish devotion. It represents all I hate. In DA1 and 2... it didn't so much matter. Here, talking without story spoilers... it is difficult.

I already aggravated most of my companions, they being Andrastians, me being Dalish, and making no secret how I hate the Chantry and all their slimy Mothers. They are creepy. I am usually playing the good side, but I am more and more tempted just to let the world do to ruin, rather than let this Maker-Chantry get on top again.

Bah. I just hate those slimy bigots and their creepy singing and preaching. I really wonder if Bioware folks are so religious? Seriously what Thedas needs is a Napoleon, who did away with Church power here in Germany, and good riddance he did. Why are people so clinging to the idea, that if something evil happened, it was because of "our sins", and if something turned out good, it was "the Makers grace". No if something turned out good, it was because WE MADE it so! Why must they hope in some invisible someone, who as far as we know never did anything for the suffering of the world? Even if their Maker exists, why should someone pray to a being, which doesnt do ****?

This entire Chantry profoundly creeps me our and appals me. I can understand spirituality, but I always did and always will hate Churches in any form.

I get the feeling you have a chip on your shoulder about religion.

Good lord, that's a lot to unpack. Umm you might just have a general view of organized religion, versus actual faith. I identify as Christian, yet I don't need church, and I don't need to "save" anyone. It's just nice to believe in God, if that's not your pound o' cake then cool beans; however just because it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, doesn't mean that a multicultural videogame developer should remove a lore element just because you don't like it. I haven't gotten very far in the game yet, but I'm pretty sure that if the Chantry is being antagonistic, you'll get your shot at them. :)

I am mentioned in RL name in a book of the Dominican Order of the Church as "dangerous Satanist". Where I am neither dangerous nor a Satanist at all. Just a Thelemite. So yes. I have history with the Church, so to speak. I would tear down every least Church, if I had the power. The Church has done endless damage to human development.

Yeah, it is "just a game", I can say. But if I roleplay, I play what I feel plausible. And this Chantry fucked up Thedas the exact same way the Church fucked up Europe during 2000 years. My trifle with Churches is as personal as it gets these days, and 400 years ago that same Churchfolks would have burned me for being Pagan. So yes. These feelings are very personal.

Trust me I can fully respect Christians. A lot that man Jesus said was good ideas. But then, so was what Confucius or Socrates said, and I still dont bow to a holy statue of Socrates. I believe in men. I believe in reason, logic and our power do to good. I am spiritual. I do accept there is something within us and in the world. But I dont think "it" speaks to me the way Aunt Trudy does. So any organization claiming to "speak for God" will have me as enemy, because NOBODY speaks for God.

I don't think I was expecting a serious answer anyway.

I would however suggest that you chill out. Plenty of us have strong feelings about something in this world that we can't bring into the game. BioWare didn't develop Inquisition specifically for you.

Alternatively continue ranting about a fictional religion and get this thread locked. I'm okay with either one happening, really.

It's ok, I like DA:I and respect it for making me think, and rant. That's a good thing, because it means it touches me and questions my ideas. Bioware games are supposed to do that. Even if I rant and hate some twists, I prefer that to a game which say nothing to me.

Fair point, and as I said no church decides how I celebrate God. It also makes me happy to see people still believe in anything, even if it's in them selves. The lack of faith in this world is highly disturbing, and if you can find hope for a better future regardless of whether you made my choices or not. Then I'm content, God bless ya mate :)

Go play Assassin's Creed if you want an atheist circle jerk.

I'm happy that Bioware deals with religion in an intelligent manner and you should be happy that they even allow you to decry religion in the game and be an atheist qunari who is euphoric with a fedora. XD

And seriously, if you're an Thelemite, you can hardly claim a rational logical ground when the Thelemite religion is based on superstitious nonsense and magic. Christianity has been quiet a progressive religion and has actually done more good than bad considering the Church was the only source of light during the Dark Ages which was caused when Rome fell at the hands of your precious pagans. The Library of Alexandria's destruction later was the final straw as we lost so much knowledge and records from its fall. What records we have remaining from those ages are thanks to the Christian monks who had to record the history of this time.

I'm no fan of the real life Church as it exists now but taking your anger out on a fictional Church from a fictional world just says that you have problems that go beyond Bioware's in-game world. Just so you know, this forum isn't r/atheism so you're not bound to get a circlejerk going on here if that's what you were after.

If you have a problem with the idea of some Bioware devs being religious then you can take your bigotry elsewhere.

Also, I'm a heretic as far as the Church is concerned so I could easily condemn them too for all the heretics they burned centuries ago but that was the past and we live in the future. Pagans however did far worst throughout history when they destroyed Rome and later when the vikings pillaged villages, raped women, killed children and and destroyed Christian monasteries and libraries in the name of Thor so you can hardly claim Paganism is a force for good in the world as it's been the must destructive religion ever. At worst, Christianity gave the world the Inquisition (and not this Inquisition which is a pretty good game! :P) but it also brought the world far more good in terms of philosophy, art and architecture that have influenced so many throughout history. First English-speaking university was also opened by Christians (Oxford University). In fact the Church in Oxford University is the oldest part of the building, the first building that university education began in the world's most famous and prestigious university...

Just adding my views here since I know this thread is going to get locked anyways...
