I don't care for Cole or Solas so far (in terms of personal taste - I think they're great characters, but Solas seems so naive about spirits and I don't trust Cole, as I think he's basically a semi-human murder knife embodied). Maybe later when I make more Inquisitors with different views.
I know a lot of people hate Viv, but I love her. I find it amusing the other companions are always getting on her, and she keeps her composure. My favorite was someone (Blackwall, maybe?) asked her whether she missed the comforts of her mansion, and she was all, "Miss? Sure, but I don't *need* them" and going on about how she's not as bloody pampered as everyone acts. This occurred as we were quite successfully mucking around a swamp. I also like her, "Of course, I'm here, this is too important not to get my hands dirty" type attitude.
I allied with free mages and everything, and Viv didn't give me much of a hard time. I just had to recognize the dangers to appease her. That seemed reasonable to me. Free mages *are* dangerous. I wanted to free them and couldn't pretend otherwise.
Solas is naive about spirits?! I'm guessing you haven't learned all there is to know about him and his extensive experience with spirits. Or, maybe this was just your early impression of him?
Vivienne is very believable. She is consistent and makes no apologies. She very much approved of my first inquisitor. We will see if she thinks as well of the current.
I like Cole. I knew a lot about him having read all the DA books, so I may have been more patient with his weirdness. I chose to go to Therinfal in my first play-through, and his intro in that event is much better than his intro at Haven.
I haven't enjoyed Sera. She went f-ing nuts on me at one point, after I expressed a differing opinion, screaming like an animal. I should've let her leave. I'm going to try to embrace her a bit more in a future play-through, but so far she has seemed superfluous and obnoxious.
