Varric, I never go anywhere without my dwarf. Same thing in DA2, no Varric = no adventure.
Favorite Companion?

Cassandra and Blackwall are my favourites so far. They are both characters I'd play in a pen&paper campaign.
Vivienne gets an honourable mention as I really love having a highly political character in the group. That's something you don't see that often in games.
The character that surprised me most was Cole, who started out as annoyingly weird and grew into a really interesting personality.
Cullen's development was the most interesting of the advisors, while Josephine wins the prize for most adorable character.
Least favourite: Sera who is just such an annoying brat. I'm probably too old to find her funny.

I'm not kissing Mr. Gaiders you know what here, but I love Dorian. My favorite companion, followed by Varric, Bull, Cass and Cole.

Sera always makes me laugh. She's definetely my favorite so far.
Also Dorian. He's so delightful and charming. It's like he walked out of a Monty Python sketch.

By now I have them all but i'll take a while until I am finished, so some opinions might change. But my first impressions are (no ranking)
Varric: Not as "present" as I had anticipated. In fact a bit dissapointed, maybe it gets more interesting with Hawke appearing? But then he had more or less his entire game on his own, with Varric all about it. So maybe I just am tired of him by now a bit
Cass: I like her. After DA2 I didn'treally expect this. But I really like her. If I'd play a guy I totally woo her
Solas: Another big surprise for me. Never after seeing his first images I'd expect him to be that interesting and likeable. Being an apostate and all...and an elf to boot! I probably will paly an elven-rogue at one point, and she'll try to get Solas
Sera: Okay, I sometimes barely understand what she says but: If I do, she's damn funny. Crazy, like some kind of Harley Quinn? Arrrgh - Mages! Arrrgh! Templars!
Iron Bull: Not a Qunari fan but: This guy is so much NOT the idiotic Arishok or stale cookie-Sten, I really start to like him, and consider him an alternative to Cass as a warrior as well. Also nice dialogues with Sera, he indeed has humour!
Vivienne: Well...no...never liked her in previews, don't really like her by now...she's my Morrigan in this game it seems (never liked her as well)
Dorian: Well, he is a fancy one indeed. That moustache alone, the Tevinter Errol Flynn? With fireball-casting and well, not so much a womanizer. But he seems a decent likeable fellow. Just why so many mages by now??
Blackwall: Puh...okay, he is kinda just there. Maybe once we see other Grey Wardens he gets interesting? So far he seems bland to me...like Wynne...
Cole: What to say ... he has an awesome .. hat? That's about it so far ... I don't think I'll be able and tolerant enough to look past this ... hat...for the time being, and discover his inner virtues

I loved nearly all the companions. But if I had to choose its easily between Dorian and Cassandra, I find both of them so well done and enjoyable.

Cassandra grew on me, and I thought iron bull and dorian were pretty good. I wasn't particularly a fan of any of the others tbh.

Dorian, Iron Bull, and Varric. Their banter is so funny. Iron Bull is always flirting with Dorian.
I think Bull is great with everyone. His flirting with Cassandra is great as well and the way he submits to Vivi is interesting to me. Dorian's banter with Sera is funny to me in the fact that most of it goes over her head.

Varric of course, hes like garrus in mass effect but i actually was hoping for alot more out of him this game... oh well
Solas is the number one of all new companions forsure.
But if i had to say my favorite NEW companion... (in this order)
Solas
Sera (Makes no sense but it's actually very entertaining lol, her views are funny)
Iron Bull
Cassandra
Dorian
Cole (I may be the only one, but when he comes to you on the TEMPLAR mission, its badass. Hes a very interesting character)
Vivienne (Intelligent and sassy but way to invested in popularity/appearance and looks down at the common folk, her biggest fear was irrelevance? as it stated in the fade LOL WTF?)
Blackwall imo was just a joke, hes plain/boring and agrees to everything i said, i literally prolly maxed his approval without even trying. I never wanted to use him and on numerous occasions i wanted to just banish him with the other wardens or leave him in jail. Couldn't though

Vivienne, Dorian, and Varric.
Vivienne shot to the top because she didn't clutch her damned pearls like most of my damned party when I sentenced that awful Tevinter Magister who screwed over the Grey Wardens to Tranquility. Death is too good for him. My main is a mage, and he felt a mages punishment for magical crimes is just... plus I can plumb the tranquil's mind later.
I adore Dorian, but I just ate the disapproval on this.

For different reasons...
Iron Bull (compatible personalities)
Dorian (compatible personalities)
Vivienne (compatible personalities)
Solas (interesting character)
Cassandra (likable personality)
If I had to choose one, I'd go with Bull. Have a soft spot for the [b]romance and his laid-back attitude.

Solas was the love for my first Dalish Inquisitor and it made me sad to see
SpoilerSo he is my favorite for a romance but as a real favorite I would choose Varric and Bull. Varric because of his stories and what I already done with him in DA2 and Bull because he is so open to everything at long its not going against the Qun

In DA:I: Cassandra.
My favorite from all 3 games is the old DA:O Leliana. Don't like the new DA:I version. She is too much a nag here, with all her chantry, divine and how she has failed stuff. Same with Morrigan and her exaggerated maternal feelings.

I have always like ME characters more and honestly DA's characters I dont really care too much for until DA:I. I like most of the characters in DAI, havent got to know them all yet but Cassandra and Dorian would top the list.

In DA:I I really like Dorian, Cassandra, Cole, and sometimes Solas. For DA:O it's Leliana and DA2 it's Fenris.

They did a phenomenal job with the companions this time around. The writing, dialogue and voice acting is probably the strongest of Bioware's efforts thus far. I especially like Cassandra and Sera.

Cassandra for me. I love how tough, but human she is.
I like Cole too. he's so wierd, but in a good way.
Honorable mention should go to Vivienne, whom I didn't expect to care for much, but has really grown on me
