Crafting is, like, too complicated

When it comes to massive RPGs, I tend to go real deep into everything the team has put together. There is no "optional" stuff amd wrapping my head around crafting in DA:I is more compulsion than fun - thus far at least.

For example, can someone please explain masterwork crafting materials for me? They seem interesting, but when I try to craft something using, say, barkwood, with the smith in Haven, barkwood doesn´t show up in the crafting menu. Although I have it in my inventory.

And so on.

Maybe it gets better, since I´m still only at mages vs templars, but thus far the crafting thing is a nightmare for us OCD types, with little payoff.

Am I the only one?

Perhaps I´m just dumb though.

Once you move past Haven you will be able to use the masterwork crafting materials like barkwood.

Essentially every item you will be able to craft will have an added slot for masterwork crafting materials.

Thanks, and I guess that´s... intriguing. Real convoluted, but intriguing. Those masterwork materials have looked quite mysterious, I do admit.

Yeah I am kind of shocked they even allow them as drops prior to unlocking skyhold.  In general I find crafting rather interesting though not very intuitive (well intuitive compared to other games)

Another thing to note, is that you can make any pattern with any set of materials just it won't be as good.  Higher tier patterns allow for more materials to be used which is what makes them better instead of just requiring the newer tier's materials.

Crafting per se is not that complicated, but finding materials and schematics on the other hand is a pain, especially at early stages.
My advice is to investing in crafting though. Loot is very unreliable and often won't suit your character.
After acquiring enough material and schematics, crafted gear are superior to loot on top of not having level restrictions.
I am currently at level 13 and I've been using bows made from the same schematic since level 7, just upgraded the materials. That tells how crafting owns loot.

A little bit off topic here but am i missing something in the descriptions of schematics you can buy from Merchants?

There are no stat descriptions, only the names of the item you will make, so how are you supposed to know its stats?

No not missing something.  It's a guess as to what you are buying.   I don't get any information until I actually try to craft the schematic, then I can see the stats.  So I was going by titles on the schematics and get lucky so far but I am still in Haven.  Figure wait till I get to Skyhook then look for schematics then.  Figure they will be at higher levels and have even higher sounding titles.

Stats are heavily effected by the the materials you use when making the armor, that includes the armor rating for that particular armor you're crafting as well.
