Okay, so it seems clear that some people can be saved and some die when Corypheus attacks Haven.  My question is, which of the NPCs *can* be saved and how, and which ones always die?  As an example, I saved Flissa.  However, there was some guy caught in a burning building with no entry that died before I could get in.  Does he always die?  The alchemist likewise died.  And the woman who does creature studies.  The blacksmith survived.  The snooty shopkeeper by the gate died.

I saved everyone. So far, the only NPC that I interacted with and couldn't save was the Research one. You have to attack to be able to get inside the burning house, destroy whatever is blocking it. You can go around Haven killing all the enemies, when you save everyone you'll hear "That's all of them." or something like that.

the bartender, the alchemist, the quartermaster, the magician who studies creatures, lysette the templar.

you must  revive them before things around them explode...Except for lysette and the quartermaster: for those is enough killing the enemies around them

You are wrong, the research one is close to Adan, outside buildings

So okay, how do you get inside the house with an obstructed door? Not, the smithy with a crate in front of it.  I'm talking about a building inside the walls blocked from the inside.

*Edit* I saw someone said to attack. This doesn't work.  There is no bash option and attacking the door does nothing.

Jump through the open roof?

Okay, I'll have to see if there is a way to climb up on my next playthrough.  I don't remember any boxes or anything to jump on.

I've read that you can save Segritt, but not for the life of me can I find this fool. I successfully bash the door in with Cass but I never see anyone. Whatever, the blighter can rot. I was happy to save the Templar and everyone else.

No, you need to attack the door until you crash it

I think to the left of the house there's a ladder you can climb and then you can go over to the roof.

That's what I did. I crashed the door in and went inside.

You can just attack the door and eventually it will break.  Faster than climbing up to the roof.  ...I think it is easier with a warrior, but a rogue/mage probably can do it too.  I always had my warrior smash the door though.

I saved all of them except the medicine guy. Btw, heres a tip: You can break doors with 1 hit by using the warriors chain ability. (The one that drags enemies closer)

Does the "bash" option appear or do you have to manually beat the door down?  That bash icon never appeared and I remember taking one swipe which seemed to do nothing and then moving on assuming there was a way in the back.

I was able to get into the burning house and break down the door very quickly by using a scaffolding-like structure running along the wall to the left of the house, it could easily be run up without any jumping or ladder climbing. Then fall through roof and destroy crates in front of door.

Saved everyone. To be quite honest, I hope I just let Segritt die. He's kind of a douche.

Yeah, not sure why he's a dick after being saved. I will not do so on subsequent playthroughs.

I've gotten into it using Ironbull or exploding arrows. One hit with the latter.

It doesn't matter who you save. They will all be replaced anyways once the Inq arrives at Skyhold. I lol'ed pretty hard upon that realization.

The survivors merely stand around and give you more or less the same one-liners over and over again.

You can save 6 people in total (7 if you count Harritt the blacksmith).

In general, they are pretty to rescue, except for Minaeve and Adan; you have to be particularly quick and observant to get those two before the timer runs out and blows them up.

For the building to the left, inside the gates, after I got the mages, a scaffold and ladder were placed next to that building, that you can climb and use to get to the roof of the burning building. But I was unable to save anyone who needed me to click on them...nothing I did would allow me to help them...I was able to save everyone who could be saved by fighting the enemies near them. I couldn't save Minaeve, Adan, or the shop keeper, even though I was standing right there, with plenty of time. Nothing worked for them, with my mouse/keyboard controls. I'd already killed the enemies so that wasn't the problem.

It bothered me that they like all got replaced anyways once I had saved them.
