After destroying the pillars, my cutscene played, cut out and now I have an immortal pride demon, and no way to finish. Bugged quest is bugged.
I have this too.
If I leave the game and come back, I can trigger the black loading screen with the rift icon, but then its just loads the game back up and I have a demon that cannot be harmed.

i guess the bug is come from the incorrect sequence
the thing i notice and this should avoid the bug, not 100% correct , just my guess
1. reload before solas say thank you inquisitor bala....
2 DON'T pass the river side, climb the cliff to go the the objective marker , go to the objective marker pass main road . start at the building ruin , there is veil fire
3. trigger solas statment about thank you inquisitor
4. check mages' bodies ,
5. go to objective marker trigger cut scene
hope this help

I'm having the same issue, so I hope in the next patch they'll release something that can fix this problem. I approached the quest area from the river as well, and heard Solas start to say something but it immediatley cut out. Since then, all I can see is the demon surrounded by pillars but can't move her or do anything with the quest.
It sucks since I'd like to complete all of Solas's personal quests but this is 100% progression blocking.

I don't see why it would be ...it's not broken. I'm sorry you think this is bugged but it's not. You just haven't done something you need to in order to get it to advance. I gave you very clear advice on what to do ...if you didn't follow, don't blame the devs for your lack of being able to complete the quest.
It's ****** bugged. Deal with it. Just because YOU didn't experience this, doesn't mean others didn't. Also, you could be ****** one of the developers...thereby biased towards them. How do we know you're NOT one of the devs? Think before you type. This quest is BUGGED. Hands down.

By the way I did everything you suggested PRIOR to reading your posts. And it was STILL bugged. I didn't get a cut scene with Solas until I reloaded the ****** GAME. WHICH IS A ****** BUG DEAL WITH IT! I had him in my part when I entered the god damn WORLD MAP. It took a game reload for the cutscene to happen. This isn't the only quest related bug I've noticed in this game. I've let the devs know each bug, and there still doesn't seem to be a patch for any of the bugged quests. So get off your high horse. THIS GAME IS GREAT BUT IT'S BUGGY.

First off, make sure you have Solas with you ( you prolly did, but want to clarify for others who may read this ) ...Second, before you get to the Demon there are 2-3 places nearby that you must find that have dead bodies which will spark comment from Solas when you find each one ...he gets angier and angier. Once you find them all head back to the Demon and a cut scene will happen leading up to you deciding whether or not to fight and kill the demon or destroy the pillars while the demon tries to eat your head. I let Cassandra just taunt the demon while I destroyed the pillars ...this gives you a "Solas greatly approves" response and you will see another cut scene where Solas and the now freed spirit say goodbye before she fades away. In another playthrough, I'll most-likely kill the demon just to see what Solas' response will be
By the way, I killed all of the mages myself and didn't let Solas kill them, and I still got great approval rating from him after the quest was done...so you're wrong once again, Stop misleading people, you're full of disinformation, I don't trust a thing you type.
edit: letting Solas kill the mages after destroying the pillars and freeing the Spirit will also net you great approval from him

Bugged for me, too. Flustering, particularly because I did it right before heading into a quest I wasn't ready for on Nightmare and had to reload to a point just before I did it. Seems I accidentally triggered the bug while skimming past the demon circle without even intending to complete it at the time, and by the time I actually got to it, it was hours and hours past the point I could have reloaded.
Long story short, if you do not approach this quest in the intended order, and do not interact with everything in order, it bugs. I see a lot of condescending remarks here, which is very unfortunate. People aren't stupid. BioWare is not infallible. Bugs happens, and they need to be dealt with.

I also have a problem related to this quest, when I was going through my completed quests to see what I haven't already done his personal quest was missing completely from the journal. I know have done it but its not showing up anywhere! ![]()

Purposely did this on a new characters a few times. In any case, approaching from the wrong angle will always trigger it. If you zone out after that point and come back, it's resolvable. However, if you hit the interactables for the quest - particularly out of order - you enter a state where you simply cannot progress anymore.

I have the same problem here, and I am having another issue with a quest in Exalted Plains where I need to talk to a fallen soldier behind a locked door. I have never experienced any bugs in my 30+ Hours of this game until I got the Exalted Plains

TL;DR: Approach the quest area from the NORTHEAST only, ensuring you find the dead bodies before you get Solas's *Gasp* dialogue.
Explanation:
This quest seems to bug out depending on the direction you approach it from.
First time I did it I approached from the northeast. Solas did his 'Thanks, we're getting close' speech, then we found the bodies to trigger more dialogue, then his *gasp* kicked off the cutscene and it all went swimmingly.
Second time I did it, I approached from the southwest across the river. He did his 'Thanks', then we found the demon and he gasped, then nothing. No cutscene and the quest marker was gone. I attempted to backtrack, change maps and return, but despite finding the bodies and getting the dialogue for them the quest refused to trigger the cutscene. It was stuck.
Loading to a previous save and approaching from the northeast made it all play out properly.
On this basis I'm assuming the bug is due to an oversight in map design. If you don't approach the quest area from the right direction, triggering all the required dialogue flags before reaching the cutscene spot, you're screwed.
Hope this helps, and remember the old Sierra adage: Save early, save often.

It is a clear oversight by those who made the game that they did not thought that someone may attempt to approach the quest marker on a mount instead of on foot. So no, the developers are fully to blame for the design of this quest.

I can confirm that this works. No matter what guys, do not use a mount to approach the area cause it is like not having Solas until you dismount and you will end up clicking the corpses in the wrong order

I was lucky it never happened the first time I played it. When I went to the location on the map, I found the bodies, Solas reacted and then we found his "friend" and then I destroyed the pillars. Solas MUST be walking/running with you. No mount.

I've crossed the river form the Dalish camp, skipping the bodies entirely and can from the ruins, works both ways just fine for me. and you can't cross the river form behind the demon so, how you get there doesn't seem to matter.

I too encountering this Bug. Solas is with me, i;m on foot, coming from the Norteastern Ruin.
Solas starts with the Mage/Arrows remark way before any dead body can be seen and that's it.
No matter what i try as soon as i reach the area i her him saying Mage shot by Arrows.
Reloading, leaving/reentering map, shuffled my party members wnt and solved all quests in the surroundings > nothing

So is there going to be a patch to fix this, my only option now is to go way back and reload a very old save.
