This game looks, plays and "feels" more generic than its predecessors to me. I always have the feeling I'm playing Kingdoms of Amalur again; everything seems so... empty. By the way, I'm talking about gameplay, not art design. Son far I loved art design and graphical implementation.

I don't feel like I'm playing a Dragon Age game at all.

I must say, though, that so far (15 hrs) Inquistion is faaaaaaaar better than Dragon Age 2. I liked some changes. But others... really really awful decisions.

I didn't expect this, but the most disappointing change it has been the oversimplified skill trees. When I saw 4 magic schools that in essence were almost primal... well, that was unexpected. Not even a fireball. Almost any area of effect damaging spells. This new role for mages, being the crowd control party members... I don't like it.

I think that is by design.  I really dislike the mage changes too.

Overall id say the combat is a bit worse than DA2, especially if you include the improvements from DA2's DLC. Comparing it to KoA though is harder to swallow, as that game is totally uninteresting in every single way.

Not generic setting, the OP said generic gameplay.  Way different.

There I fixed it to stay completely relevant to the TC's concerns.

Generic isn't the word I'd use, but I'm not particularly happy with the gameplay, no.

Yeah, the gameplay feels a lot like other Action RPGs out now. The controls dont make sense on PC either, i dont understand why you would move with wasd when the combat isn't fluid like in Dark Souls.

and, whats with the skill trees? they're so basic and stripped down

Unfortunately it seems like the game has been stripped down to try to appeal to the greater masses and lowest denominator so as not to alienate casual gamers.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so. They want to have mass appeal across a broader demographic, and that always comes at a cost to the hardcore players.

This is why games like PoE for example, a true RPG (I have many issues with it for the record) caters so much to the hardcore community.. its an unforgiving game that doesn't hold your hand and can get pretty complex. They keep it that way on purpose, which makes it very inaccessible and a steep learning curve for new players. Seperates the wheat from the chaff.

Its a shame with DAI, but I'm not surprised tbh.. its not about making fans happy anymore, its about how many people they can sell to. they already know that rpg fans are going to buy it regardless, so they don't care if its dumbed down for them as it will be more accessible to the non-rpg fans.

Unfortunately I think that's where EA comes in and that's the extent of Bioware's "full creative control". I'm sure they get bullet point demands from EA writhe every game like this: "1) make game accessible to newcomers, 2)maximize profit by any means necessary" etc etc. I'm sure Bioware has to check certain boxes as part of their partnership with EA (or further beyond that; Bioware IS technically part of EA)

I hope EA gets its stick out of its butt sometimes to give more freedom to their devs by allowing them to sacrifice some profit by focusing more on nerdy RPG stuff.

Interesting you brought up Amalur because I experienced that there as well. It was so fantastical than I'm just Tolkeining my way to the next quest marker mindlessly. I've already said in multiple instances including before the game was released that I thought Inquisition seemed to have a lot of generic tendencies so I can't really add anything to the overall discussion, just saying I agree.

Although I kind of feel that may just be fantasy generally, so many fantasy games, fantasy themes, but also a lot of the time their plot could be ripped from an FPS game half the time.

Maker forbid they should try to make the game appealing to more people leolus, what are the trying to do run a business or something?

I don't think it's generic but some of the changes feel a little odd like 8 ability slots and healing options being gutted was clearly an error, tactics slots are sorely missed as well. So they have lost some of their uniqueness but it's not overly generic.

The worst part is that there is so much filler to me. Bazillions of shards, god knows how rifts per map, landmarks galore. It gets....exhausting. I'd really rather have a smaller tighter game with less grinding feel....and before the "it's optional crowd shows up" you can't level to the story missions without a lot of grind.

I miss crushing prison. I miss cone of cold. I miss fireball, tempest, walking bomb not tied to a spec, glyphs that don't take over half my mana pool, and the entire entropy tree. God, I miss the entropy tree  :(

Hey, you're not allowed to have this opinion! Everything in Inquisition is great and if you don't think so, you're just an entitled whiner. Go make your own game blah blah blah

It's only a matter of time before those people show up.

I'm a fan and they make me happy (well, probably, since i haven't played it yet but considering i like pretty much everything Bioware makes...). I don't subscribe to the notion that the more complicated, the more options, the better the game. I'm here for the characters and story.

I HATE critical bugs, though, like not being able to finish a quest or wrong save (Keep) import data. Hence me waiting for a patch or two before jumping into DAI.

One thing that puzzles me is the apparent inconsistency with the usual Dragon Age lore... I've not been much in the forums and maybe this issue has been explained somewhere else but... is there any lore/logical explanation to the changes? Two particular things bother me: the magic schools and money currency. So far, I have not found any codex entry that sheds light into it.
