Despite there not having been a release date announced beforehand, today the first episode of Telltale's next series, Tales from the Borderlands, was released. And so far, reviews for it have been great.

Personally, I really enjoyed the episode. It's as consistently funny as Borderlands 2 was (and it doesn't tend nearly so much towards over-the-top zaniness or references, so those who didn't like that aspect of BL2 shouldn't have an issue here). The episode was also longer than most of Telltale's other recent ones, running at over 2 hours. And best of all, the female protagonist, Fiona, is voiced by Laura Bailey.

If the rest of the episodes can match the quality of this one, this may be my favourite Telltale game since the first season of The Walking Dead.

It's one of their better titles, more reminiscent of their golden days, when they were a part of LucasArts or generally did Sam & Max games. The comedy is much closer to that of the LucasArts-type of games which is a nice change of pace from the brown, gritty noise that is Walking Dead.

Also, having Bailey & Baker as the protagonists is always welcome.

Can you choose your character or do you play with both?

You play both.

Something I want to pick up eventually but not right now.

I'd heard the humor was a bit more forced than it is in BL. Guess not?

It's better -- It's not drenched in poop-jokes and pop culture references bullocks like the main games.
But one can definitely still tell it's Borderlands.

Huh I was unsure about this but I guess I'll give it a shot at some point.

I got it/played the first episode last night and really, really enjoyed it. It's funny and well written, and I can't wait for the next episode. Worth grabbing up if you ask Me.

Did notice a few graphical bugs, but every Telltale game has 'em, but they weren't as bad has in the Walking Dead...So there's that.

So how much these episodic telltales games take to play?

Could developers just wait and create a complete game or one plus an expansion? Not like 5 games for walking dead.

On average 2 hours each, TFTB is 5 episodes so the whole thing should be around 10 hours. It depends on how you play it

That's just Telltale's style. I think it came about because they used to release their Sam & Max games bi-monthly on GamersTap or something. It also gives them more time to polish each episode I guess(they are using a ten year old engine that bugged to ****)

Excellent writing, good story, and delved into Pandoran lore. Good first entry.

I have never played Borderlands. However, I had also never read "Fables" before playing "Wolf Among Us" and that didn't prevent me from understanding the setting and enjoying it immensely.

Is it the same with this one?

Was just about to post this question (I did read 'Fables' before, though). My only knowledge about Borderlands comes from listenting to some friends who played it together, and from watching a few trailers over the years. Will I enjoy this?

Pretty much. You'll probably get a little more out of it if you have played previous Borderlands games, but the story stands on its own and I don't think it really requires you to know lots of details about the world going into it.

In retrospect, Laura Bailey steals the show in this one over Troy Baker -- Fiona is the better protagonist, she's awesome. I like Rhys near the end though. Definitely looking forward to see where this will go.

Thanks! I might play it this Sunday or so then.  :)

I thought that was one of the best first episodes that Telltale has done. Despite never having played any Borderlands game before, I enjoyed the first episode of this series more than I did the first episodes of either Walking Dead or Game of Thrones.

I thought both VAs did a great job with their characters. Fiona is more of a bad@ss than Rhys of course, but that's intended. Rhys' corporate douchery and fish-out-of-water routine on Pandora is part of the character's charm, and also provides a lot of the episode's comic relief.

I liked Vasquez as a character for similar reasons. He's written to be a gigantic d-bag, but he's also hilarious. I was cracking up through most of his promotion speech with Rhys. I hope he lasts until the final episode.

The charm for Rhys is there but his presence as a protagonist is outshadowed by Fiona, and Laura Bailey's performance, who is also charming for different reasons, but she felt particularly more engaging than Rhys was. Rhys's charm lies in his delusions of grandeur being swept up by the cruel reality of the crazy situations he gets himself into, so whenever he comes up with some sort of overly complex elaborate strategy to get out of Dodge, then it's always hilarious to watch his compatriots foiling it by discovering a much more convenient approach. It is nice to play a more 'disgraced' protagonist every now and then.

I finally got enough money (and a new keyboard) to be able to buy and now my laptop can't get internet to download. I swear the universe is trolling me.

Why must the universe punish the good?

(You'll get it if/when you get into the game)

Let's bump this **** in honor of Episode 2.

It was fantastic. To be honest I've enjoyed Tales more than I have Borderlands itself. No Anthony Burch, no Claptrap, more seriousness than just lolzaniness, and the list gets longer.
