Ok I'm only starting at Skyhold but up to now, I've had a hell of  a time navigating the hills of the coast and Redcliffe

Can we please add the Skyrim bug that lets you jump up mountains ? My space bar finger is already getting achy  :P

I don't remember ever having so much trouble navigating hills on WoW, DAO, DA2, Skyrim, Elder Scrolls, etc...

I can't tell you how SICK I am of spending hours watching my hero, who is SUPPOSED to be able to kill dragons and leap tall buildings, jumping around like a spastic frog trying to climb up rocks that a TWO YEAR OLD could manage just to get to his quest destination. It's frustrating, annoying, and just NOT fun!!

I'm playing on the xbox 360 not a pc, but my complaint is the same. WHY do so damn MANY of the quests I need to complete send me to the top of some totally unclimbable mountain. I've spent hours trying to reach those destinations to no avail. And I'm done with it.

To me, that's just lazy programming. No strategy, no action, no demons to fight. Just a pile of insurmountable rocks.

Bah! I'm abandoning those quests and I won't even attempt any more of them.

I wish we had flying mounts. That would ease the pain

You aren't supposed to be trying to scale vertical faces. For almost everywhere that you can and need to go, there is a natural path to that point.

So if you find yourself hopping around it's probably because you are trying to find a shortcut. And if you are trying to find a shortcut, you end up hopping about.

There's a fight against despair demons in the Hinterlands in a bowl shaped area with rocks all over the sides. The enemies zip from one spot to another while my PC attempts to bunny hop her way to their location.

There is always a route to your destination. Sure, you may need to go AROUND but I always check my map for clues. The terrain in the map shows you the path(s). I plant my marker on the map a ways out to keep me from getting lost. Once reach,  rinse and repeat until you reach your objective. The only time I hump rocks is in the STORM COAST where those BIG dwarven statues are located and only because I want to see if there is a hidden entrance.

I'd like to disagree. I know for finding certain items like the shards, I've had to jump my way and parkour a few places to get a couple shards. There was no direct path, cause I circled around several times looking for them. They are uncommon though, otherwise the only issues I've run into are when the designed paths (specially in the storm coast) are covered in rock bits that my Inquisitor gets stuck on if I just try to run over or around them. (thus forcing me to bunny hop)

thanks. You're very kind to respond and I appreciate it, but honestly? I've been trying to get to Varric's red lyrium on the Storm Coast and the place it points to is totally inaccessible. I checked the map 1000 times, ran around in circles for hours searching for a way up... there was none.  There's a door.. seemingly... at a dwarven statue/shrine, etc but it does not give a means to open it.

Same thing in other areas where I've searched for the lyrium. Poor Varric. He doesn't get to see it destroyed. *sigh*

That place is for a later quest. I did the same thing running around trying to find a way ib. And there's way more than 12 red lyrium.hanging around so you can just continue on and still do it.

I agree with the OP.  I'm 60 hours in and have stopped playing.  Last straw was in the exalted plains when after 2 hours of trying I finally managed to get on top of a plateau to get to a quest objective and was stopped by an invisible wall.  I could see my marker not 20 steps in front of me but obviously I had got up there by a route other than that intended by the devs.  Jumping and pathing puzzles should be at best used sparingly in an rpg, this game has them all over the place.

THANK YOU! This has been my greatest frustration (along with no 'auto loot') in an otherwise great game. But it's a big one for me. I do not want to waste my time for 5 hours just to complete (maybe) a 10 minute quest. Give me something to fight! Fine. No problem. Even a puzzle. OK. I hate them but... OK. but endless piles of insurmountable rocks? Particularly ones that any two year old could climb over? Lazy programming and a waste of my time.

Like Sartoz said, there's generally always a natural path. You've essentially created your own jumping game. You can almost completely go through the entire game without jumping. Infact, the only time I use the jump button is when I'm too lazy to walk around. All of this complaining just seems like lazy gaming to me. People ask for an expansive world and then complain about how big it is and how it takes forever to get anywhere. People ask for jumping and then complain that they have to jump everywhere. Honestly, there's no pleasing some people.

This isn't accessible until you open the mines via the war table.

You actually spent two hours trying to get to a quest one way, instead if just walking around? You realize there are parts of the map that are just plain inaccessible until you do war room objectives?

The problem is that while there is a way the map doesn't make it evident. I can't tell you how many times I see what looks like a gap on the job that turns out to be a wall of cliffs.

Plus, I don't want to wander around and around to find "a" path up -- and in most places the is a way. Often that way is way the cripes on the other side of the map and what looks to be "right there" takes forever to get to just to push a button to finish a quest. I'd sorta like to go more for "rolling hills" than sheer cliffs on the map.

Most people no, don't. Do a quick search on people asking about the camp on the Exaltd Plains or the Lyrium mine on storm coast. It makes no sense why you need a war room mission to open a door or clear some rubble. That is just stupid.

It still seems like complaining about exploration and the size of the map to me. Which is something that was a major complaint in DA2. Personally, I think it's the lesser of two evils and explains why all our characters are so fit. Wouldn't make any sense to have a fat inquisitor if he's jumping all over the place all the time; would have blown his knee caps right out.... but I digress.

As an aside, I think "rolling hills" would be complained about as a "walking simulator".

I'm told that jumping rocks while mounted on a horse makes it easier. I've yet to try it but I hope it works, tired of bunny hopping.

And no, doesn't have to be walking simulator but WoW, Elder Scrolls and even Skyrim don't have this massive amount of rocks in your way with only one narrow path usable.

What makes it worse is that my companions and the foxes and NPC can climb all those easily and I'm left humping boulders

Not sure how having a way to X that is more straightlinish is less walking simulator than wandering all over trying to guess where the path up the cliffs would be. You are still exploring but for those of us who rightly hate the less than thrilling experience of walking, picking weeds and slaughtering bears we get a bit of a break so we can focus on being a hero not a gardener.

I'm starting to think that Skyrim bug that let you climb anything wasn't really a bug, was a way for devs to let us walk all over without complaining
